Bloody fucking covid

I know IABU as there’s a covid board and this is more of a rant, however. I have worked my arse off for months, taking extra shifts, working all week/nearly all week for the majority of the time. I have two weeks of annual leave now, that begun yesterday. I have planned various things with DC for these two weeks. This morning I woke up with a banging headache, sore throat and just general rubbishness. Before heading out for the day with DC I decided to test for covid, on the off-chance…and wouldn’t you know it my test was blazingly positive. Fucking covid. All plans now out the window for the next few days at least, and I’m stuck in bed feeling awful. I’ve only had covid once before, and that was most unpleasant.

AIBU to think this is just bloody typical and to wish covid would just fuck the fuck off?

Just do the things you had planned when you feel better like everyone else does.

CherryMaDeara · 08/08/2023 15:01

Could you ask about cancelling your annual leave and taking sick leave instead?

Sorry you're sick Daffodil

RedPony1 · 08/08/2023 15:02

Thats crappy luck! I've never had covid (that i know of) I hope you feel better soon and get some trips in on your annual leave with DC😊

So unsympathetic! I've got covid and feel absolutely dreadful. I would not want to spend my precious annual leave feeling like this and not being able to do all the things I had planned.

Oh well. Why even test? Would she have been happy to go out if she felt unwell and it was one of 200 odd other respiratory viruses floating about?

Breakoutbertha · 08/08/2023 15:10

I've got Covid. I've just kept up my paracetamol and taken vit c drink. Feel better in 24hrs already. Sometimes you just have to push yourself a bit. I've been out today shopping as I refuse to stay in and mope about. No one is isolating anymore it seems.

SatelliteStomper · 08/08/2023 15:10

Huge sympathies OP - I'm on my first holiday in 2 years and developed what I am sure is my first-ever bout of Covid on day 1. It absolutely sucks.

@TruthThatsHardAsSteel I got your post. Wish people would read properly!

Peony654 · 08/08/2023 15:13

YABU. You’re ill, it’s annoying but part of life. Covid is irrelevant, why even test. I don’t know anyone who tests

Oh no! I got covid on my first holiday. Was ill all week with it but didn't know until I got home.

Just rest lots and don't push yourself when you think you're better.

Glad you got what I wrote. I was about to name change and go and hide. It's a very emotive issue and obviously people are quick to jump to the defence. I understand

Kabbalah · 08/08/2023 15:22

Covid is still out there. We had a fatality on our unit last week. She was 39, two kids. Her husband just stood there shaking uncontrollably. I had to call psyc services in the end. That bed was occupied again by handover.

I tested so other people wouldn’t have to deal with Covid.

Its not ‘irrelevnt’

I work term time and end up at least feeling a bit crap at the start of almost every school holiday. Its like our bodies just know we are getting some down time!

Wishing you a speedy recovery OP. Do see about changing leave so it isn't wasted!

There's a theory about 'leisure sickness' - that for some people the body 'waits' until its time to relax before allowing itself to get sick. It's characterised by flu-like / viral symptoms and is supposedly more prevalent in people with stressful jobs or perfectionists!

I've definitely had the most stressful year of my life at work so there could be something in it (not a perfectionist though!)

Breakoutbertha · 08/08/2023 15:32

Covid is kind of irrelevant in that I'd say 98% of people just carry on and rightly so. My boss would laugh in my face if I used Covid as a reason to not go in.

Same, I suspect people who still test do it so they can use covid as an excuse tbh.

Op hope you recover quickly. That's rotten. I Really enjoyed soup with bread to dip when I had it. Drink lots of fluids.

Just be prepared for - why on earth did you test? It's just a cold. We have to learn to live with it. Would you stay home with any other cold? Who cares? Who even has any tests? Why tests these days? I had it and it was brilliant. Just a cold. Are you seeking help for your anxiety? Etc etc.

Someone I know, who was only in her early 50s, died of Covid two weeks ago. It wasn't 'just a cold' for her.

Sorry, could you point out where someone has denied the existence of covid?

Breakoutbertha · 08/08/2023 15:53

@RattleRattle thats nice for you. I'd have been sacked.

If you were heading out for the day why didn’t you just keep going?

Because she’s unwell in bed

I see those as comparing covid to a cold. For most people, it presents very similarly. What's the point in testing? If you're unwell, stay in.

Tiredanddistracted · 08/08/2023 16:02

@TruthThatsHardAsSteel is really getting it in the neck from people who lack basic reading comprehension skills, isn't she?
