Bloody fucking covid

IsTheOffDutyDoneYet · 08/08/2023 13:17

I know IABU as there’s a covid board and this is more of a rant, however. I have worked my arse off for months, taking extra shifts, working all week/nearly all week for the majority of the time. I have two weeks of annual leave now, that begun yesterday. I have planned various things with DC for these two weeks. This morning I woke up with a banging headache, sore throat and just general rubbishness. Before heading out for the day with DC I decided to test for covid, on the off-chance…and wouldn’t you know it my test was blazingly positive. Fucking covid. All plans now out the window for the next few days at least, and I’m stuck in bed feeling awful. I’ve only had covid once before, and that was most unpleasant.

AIBU to think this is just bloody typical and to wish covid would just fuck the fuck off?

I've got Covid. I've just kept up my paracetamol and taken vit c drink. Feel better in 24hrs already. Sometimes you just have to push yourself a bit. I've been out today shopping as I refuse to stay in and mope about. No one is isolating anymore it seems.

Lucky you. Be grateful it didn't hit you harder.

I am on day 12 and still feel pretty shitty. I spent 4 days in bed throwing up, unable to even keep a sip of water down, terrible headache, aching all over. If I even tried to sit up in bed I became really dizzy.

Lilibert456 · 08/08/2023 17:42

If you get a GP certificate you should be able to claim back your leave days.

ihadamarveloustime · 08/08/2023 17:48

Cancel your annual leave asap and take it as sick leave. keep proof of the tests, etc.

283nouveauxnoms · 08/08/2023 18:02

OP you have my sympathy.

Interesting to see the increases mentioned.

My household currently has Covid. Tested as we felt unwell and DH was due to go away for work. Feeling pretty grim at the moment, not capable of concentration or work.

All this “it’s just a cold” stuff really annoys me, yes it is for most people but I am clinically vulnerable and many people are more vulnerable than me. Surely it’s only responsible to follow the guidance to keep away from people for 5 days??

KinooOrKinog · 08/08/2023 16:19

Out of interest, if you had done the test and it was negative for covid, what would you have done?

Probably gone to bed because she feels like shit.

19lottie82 · 08/08/2023 18:31

Why even test?

because I don’t want to spread it to vulnerable people who are at risk?

to most of us it’s “just a cold” but to others it can be a lot more serious, deadly even.

I really don’t understand why people don’t understand this.

NeverTrustAPoliceman · 08/08/2023 18:33

Completely anecdotal but I hadn't heard of any Covid cases in my circle of family/friends/neighbours for months and now I know of four cases this week, all unconnected.

IsTheOffDutyDoneYet · 08/08/2023 18:55

Thanks for all of the replies, apologies I have been asleep. Still feel like shit. Everything hurts and aches, I’m coughing, the headache is refusing to go away despite medicine, my glands are up, I’m starting to losing my voice, I’m exhausted and I’ve been shivery and shaky.

@TruthThatsHardAsSteel I understood what you were saying, I’m sorry people have piled on you a bit.

I tested because I was due to go to an Escape Room/out for lunch/to the park, and I woke up feeling like I did with covid last time. I wasn’t about to go and spread covid if it was positive, and also my H has underlying health conditions. I was also meant to be getting a root canal tomorrow, so if I’d not tested and then miraculously felt somewhat better by tomorrow then I could have spread it there. The way I felt/I’m feeling, I would have likely postponed all the plans today. If I would have been in work I wouldn’t have been allowed to go in - I’m a nurse and look after vulnerable people, so yes I do feel it appropriate to test if I’m feeling dreadful in or not. I’ve spoken with a colleague and my leave has been changed over to sickness, I’ll resume to annual leave as soon as I’ve feeling better. I can assure you’d I’m much prefer to actually not have covid. If it was negative and I started to feel better I could actually go out, where as now I’m in til Sunday.

💐To everyone else feeling poorly/with covid, hope you’re all feeling better soon.

Same, I suspect people who still test do it so they can use covid as an excuse tbh.

If I tested positive and chose not to see clients I'd lose money - I'm self employed. I wouldn't choose to put people at risk.

ilovesooty · 08/08/2023 19:47

Breakoutbertha · 08/08/2023 15:53

@RattleRattle thats nice for you. I'd have been sacked.

Perhaps you should look for a decent employer then.

Moonberri · 08/08/2023 20:03

I've had the same symptoms OP but also not sleeping due to the headache and throat pain. Can't remember ever feeling so ill before.

BillyBlueBoots · 08/08/2023 20:46

I am currently sat by the hospital bed of my little one who is 3, she was admitted with sepsis and covid, I have no idea which came first but she has been very poorly for the last 48 hours.

Well I hate to break it to you but if you are working with vulnerable people, even a cold could put them at risk. Do you 'call in' every time you cough or sneeze?

Sorry to hear that. I hope she gets better really soon.

Lovemusic33 · 08/08/2023 21:01

Dd1 had it first week of the holidays then dd2 had it last week so we spent most of the last 2 weeks at home (until they felt better), luckily I didn’t get it. I think there’s many people walking around with it thinking they just have a cold, dd1 wasn’t that poorly with it and because she has other health issues we didn’t really think it was covid (she always has achy legs etc..). A lot of people are not testing. I only tested dd2 as she goes out with a care worker once a week and I didn’t want her to risk giving anything to her worker.

Beaverbridge · 08/08/2023 21:06

It's deffo on the rise again. My daughter works in a hospital and they've had lots of admissions with covid.

CamelSilk · 08/08/2023 21:13

According to the government statistics there's been an increase this week compared to last week, but it's much lower than it was 3 months ago.

Scienceadvisory · 08/08/2023 21:16

MamTDM · 08/08/2023 15:48

Someone I know, who was only in her early 50s, died of Covid two weeks ago. It wasn't 'just a cold' for her.

That poster wasn't saying its just a cold, she was suggesting that the OP would have ignorant people saying that to her. So don't get arsey.

l caught it 5 weeks ago. It’s gifted me long Covid. Muzzy head and total exhaustion.

Actually no you haven't, it's not classed as long Covid until after 12 weeks (if you haven't recovered by then).

It hasn't arisen. I haven't had a cold in years I'm quite capable of making appropriate risk assessments for individual clients, thank you.

EmilyBrontesGhost · 08/08/2023 23:27

Before heading out for the day with DC

Right, so you felt well enough to be heading out with your children.

So what's the problem?

Gotthetshirt1 · 08/08/2023 23:45

Same, I suspect people who still test do it so they can use covid as an excuse tbh.

@AllOfThemWitches i test if i have the symptoms because i dont want to infect someone who could be a lot more vulnerable to it. Like a member of my family who has advanced cancer. Or my coworker who has a complex condition. Or my FIL whos on chemo. So yeah, I test. And I adjust my plans accordingly in consideration of others. If more did the same it wouldnt be on the increase again.

Society doesn't work like this, it never has.

If you're ill, stay away from vulnerable people (though TBH before covid no-one even cared about that).

But no-one EVER needed a test for ANYTHING. All they knew.
was they'd caught a virus and didn't want to spread it to others (vulnerable or otherwise).

The test is irrelevant.

The virus is irrelevant.

NO-ONE VCARED ABOUT ANY OF THIS BEFORE COVID.

Now, you all just like the drama.
