To not boil another egg?

iamboudicca · 03/08/2023 08:59

DC2 is 7 and going through both a growth spurt and a very fussy stage.

DC was offered poached or scrambled egg for breakfast. ( which I can reliably make) but I was persuaded to do boiled instead. Then I made it a bit runny… and had the audacity to serve with soldiers made of GRANARY bread! ‘It has bits in it’

DC refused to eat it and wanted something else. I asked DC to eat what I had made… they have left breakfast with nothing and are being extremely grumpy.

I have declined to make another egg… AIBU to think when they are properly hungry they will eat what is on offer…

photo attached of the offending plate…(DC insisted that I take the boiled egg out of the shell - but now doesn’t want it!

I do feel sorry for the OP getting such a pile-on but I must say how much I enjoyed this thread and have laughed out loud a few times!

I've learned a lot about eggs, I don't really like them, neither do my DH/DCs so it's been a real education!

Well obviously it wasn’t cooked properly before it went in the microwave. That’s why she tried the microwave…

No she tried the microwave because he refused to eat the raw egg she tried to serve him... shes now mad he doesn't want to eat the weird frankenstien egg that wasn't what he wanted.

@YourNameGoesHere yes that is what a hard boiled egg is like out of the shell. DC wanted a soft boiled egg. (But not in a shell and not a poached egg…)
there is a reason I offered scrambled or poached!

Maybe try this?

She referred to it as a disaster and has admitted several times she can’t boil an egg. She knew it wasn’t cooked properly.

Ok... that doesn't negate the fact she expected people to side with her that her child in thinking her child should happily eat a raw egg and declare he is ungrateful for not eating something that wasn't even fully cooked.

He is not wrong or ungrateful for not wanting to eat a slimy uncooked egg or a microwaved egg when he started by saying thats not what he wanted.

She is mad at HIM for her mistake, thats what the threads about.

Have the first few posters never had soft boiled eggs with dippy soldiers?? 😳

Yes, but the egg in the OP isn't a soft boiled egg, it's an abomination. Grin

Well yes but Ive never seen a soft boiled egg look fried before.

Scottsy200 · 03/08/2023 17:06

To be fair if someone served me this as a boiled egg I’d refuse to eat it too, a quick google gives you lots of ways to make a perfect boiled egg, it’s not rocket science

Of course but if it’s been microwaved it doesn’t look soft boiled anymore, it just looks microwaved

The egg wasn't sunny side up you broke the yolk that's a sin

Of course it doesn’t! If anything it makes it worse. Her OP suggests she thought the egg was fine other than being a “bit runny”. A fair few posts later she admits to the microwaving and calls it a disaster. So she knows it’s not what he wanted and that she messed up yet still thinks he’s the one in the wrong. 🤯

As for expecting people to agree with her… have you seen the vote?! 48% currently do!! I’m not one of them…

Carpediemmakeitcount · 03/08/2023 17:48

iamboudicca · 03/08/2023 09:15

Yes I did try to sort the disaster by putting it in the microwave

Do you know how to cook a decent egg???

Walkaround · 03/08/2023 17:54

I reckon she sabotaged it, because she doesn’t like soft boiled eggs herself. I mean, honestly - 4.5 minutes?! On what planet does anyone think that’s boiled for long enough? 🤮🤮🤮 It’s only fair to insist a child eat something that is edible, not something that could actually give them food poisoning. 🤢

iamboudicca · 03/08/2023 09:06

It was a boiled egg before DC insisted I take it out of the shell!

No.. if properly boiled taking it out of the shell wouldnt change it that way. I'm sure you know that. Are you trying out a Penis beaker type thread? Lol

ThinWomansBrain · 03/08/2023 18:00

More 'dipped in hot water egg" rather than boiled.

Mullingthediy · 03/08/2023 18:03

Haven’t read all the posts. How about coddled eggs, either served in the china pot or tipped out.

Womblegreen · 03/08/2023 18:05

YWNBU to not cook an alternative breakfast. Thanks for the thread, I had lovely dippy eggs and toast soldiers as a result!

JMSA · 03/08/2023 18:07

I'm weird, but runny yolk is my nightmare food. Unless the boiled egg bounces, I ain't eating it!

Ceci03 · 03/08/2023 18:09

I like your egg OP!!

Anderson2018 · 03/08/2023 18:10

Yeah that looks horrible, poor kid!

Ceci03 · 03/08/2023 18:11

4.5 mins is a perfect amount of time for a boiled egg!!! That's what a softly boiled egg is like

Usernamenotavailabletryanother · 03/08/2023 18:15

That is a terrible egg, and I would have made something else.

On the plus side, the kid will never ask for boiled egg and soldiers again, so chalk it up as a win, OP.

Nope, that's what an undercooked egg looks like.🤢
