To not boil another egg?

iamboudicca · 03/08/2023 08:59

DC2 is 7 and going through both a growth spurt and a very fussy stage.

DC was offered poached or scrambled egg for breakfast. ( which I can reliably make) but I was persuaded to do boiled instead. Then I made it a bit runny… and had the audacity to serve with soldiers made of GRANARY bread! ‘It has bits in it’

DC refused to eat it and wanted something else. I asked DC to eat what I had made… they have left breakfast with nothing and are being extremely grumpy.

I have declined to make another egg… AIBU to think when they are properly hungry they will eat what is on offer…

photo attached of the offending plate…(DC insisted that I take the boiled egg out of the shell - but now doesn’t want it!

I think if you'd cooked a perfectly good egg and they'd refused it, then fair enough they didn't get another one. The fact that you cooked one that still had the potential to hatch, it's a bit unfair you didn't cook a new one

Oh thank goodness someone who actually read what OP did. Boiled egg, took off shell, too soft so put it in the microwave.
Eggsasperating ….

To be fair she denied that for multiple posts and just kept insisting it was boiled until she admitted to the microwaving.

willywallaby · 03/08/2023 10:11

I don't know about the egg but I do think granary bread is a bit of an audacity if he doesn't normally eat that type of bread.

Mrsjayy · 03/08/2023 10:13

Oh microwaved ah well maybe stick to eggs you can cook op I wouldn't have are a not boiled enough then microwaved egg either !

Daphnis156 · 03/08/2023 10:14

I wouldn't "boil" another egg, as from that evidence you can't boil an egg.
As for the child, let it go hungry.

ImSoShiney · 03/08/2023 10:16

Did you microwave it

iamboudicca · 03/08/2023 10:16

DC1 has appeared looked at the photo and asked if she can have ‘one like that please’ -apparently it looked really nice!

None of my kids would eat any of that 🤷‍♀️
Granary bread is an acquired taste and boiled eggs belong in the shell 😂
I don't think your kid was being particularly fussy

iamboudicca · 03/08/2023 09:15

Yes I did try to sort the disaster by putting it in the microwave

But the egg wasn't cooked properly before being microwaved... see that 'bubbling', that happens to RAW egg white in the microwave.

Microwaving shouldn't have changed cooked egg white only the runny yoke would change.

BansheeofInisherin · 03/08/2023 10:21

I am a slapdash cook but even I wouldn't serve that up as a boiled egg.
Tbh I am crap at boiled eggs too but have finally mastered them.

HoppingPavlova · 03/08/2023 10:23

Never in my life have I seen a boiled egg look like that when taken out of the shell😵‍💫

Actually, she didn't deny microwaving it.
She didn't mention it until someone asked if she had and she said:

Yes I am not good at boiled eggs….

Mrsjayy · 03/08/2023 10:24

I've just made a boiled egg for breakfast I wonder if this thread is sponsored by the "egg marketing board" 😃

Heronwatcher · 03/08/2023 10:24

Kids are painful. They regularly ask
me for food which I know will be utterly rank and I regularly ignore them and cook it the way I would eat it and normally that works out ok! I’m sure this was exactly what was requested and it tasted fine, but an under boiled egg, out of shell, popped in a microwave, with bread instead of toast is a bit grim, sorry!

I’d happily eat that OP. Ignore the misery guts, no wonder the UK wastes 10 million tonnes of food a year.

BernardSure · 03/08/2023 10:25

I'm normally not at home to fussy kids and food refusals but eggs are a special case. No way would I make a kid eat an egg that wasn't cooked to their liking. snotty eggs - vom!

Thegoodbadandugly · 03/08/2023 10:25

So an egg which is not a boiled egg, soldiers that are not soldiers, I wouldn't eat that either.

Haha, you'll never be able to recreate that again. It'll only be perfect boiled eggs from now on.

As an aside, Delias method for boiling eggs works really well. I can't boil eggs, but can poach, fry and scramble quite well. With her method I can even boil eggs. Delias perfect boiled eggs method

How to boil an egg

The answer to this is carefully. Even the simplest of cooking demands a degree of care and attention. But in the end all it involves is first knowing the right way to proceed and then happily being able to boil perfect eggs for the rest of your life wi...

Oh yes I would eat it. I eat everything. But DC at 7 would not.

Your other child asked for an egg like the one in your OP?

She must be a comedian, as I struggle to believe anyone would actually want to eat an egg like that

ZeroFuchsGiven · 03/08/2023 10:26

Op, what I can not work out is your dc asked for a boiled egg not in the shell so why did you not just poach it?

swimminginthesun · 03/08/2023 10:27

JusthereforXmas · 03/08/2023 10:19

Well obviously it wasn’t cooked properly before it went in the microwave. That’s why she tried the microwave…

moose62 · 03/08/2023 10:28

The egg not being cooked well, or fried or microwaved or whatever is not really the point of the post. At 7 your child is old enough to realise that if they don't eat what the asked for (and sort of got!) Then they can do without. I don't mind fussiness up to a point but sometimes they just have to get on with it!

Hufflepods · 03/08/2023 10:28

LaMarschallin · 03/08/2023 10:24

It’s denying by omission to repeat 3 times that it was simply a boiled egg out of the shell with everyone could see that wasn’t the case.
