to think food adverts on the TV are poisonous

every night when I sit down to watch telly there are adverts for Just Eat, KFC etc. Purely designed to make us order a takeaway.

I hate this and think it should be regulated in the same way that cigarettes and alcohol are.

And wtf is it with Trivento wines advertising 'a splash of the bold' in conjunction with certain programmes.

Just no!

Also see gogglebox where every person on is is eating in front of the TV. Snacks, or dinner or cakes.

I have enough trouble curbing my desire to eat without all this!

Very true, that said humans need more will power rather than just eats app.

DustyLee123 · 17/07/2023 21:53

I watch TV and manage not to eat take aways or drink wine.

WestwardHo1 · 17/07/2023 21:54

YANBU.

The UK relationship with junk food is out of control. If the massive obesity problem isn't tackled more proactively, then it's going to get worse and worse. People are refusing to take control of themselves and their health and weight, so I think the government needs to properly step in.

They won't though.

Dacadactyl · 17/07/2023 21:54

I don't notice them tbh.

I do occasionally snack in front of the TV, but it must be a decade since I've had KFC and 7 years since I've had a McDonalds.

I think it's to do with how you were brought up to an extent. We rarely had takeaways and snack food was rare in our house. I've continued in the same vein as an adult, but think it'd be harder if I was already in the habit as a child.

LunaNorth · 17/07/2023 21:54

What’s with Tesco and their ‘fire pit products’, while we’re on about adverts?

Are we not supposed to say ‘barbecue’ any more?

vodkaredbullgirl · 17/07/2023 21:54

Ok🙄

Hobnobswantshernameback · 17/07/2023 21:55

I agree. The big food manufacturers have a lot to answer for

I hate that Just Eat one. The human hanging in the air like a little floppy puppet whilst huge brand names are literally stamped on it. This is how the big food companies see us, clearly.

(As an aside, how do some people have so much extra money that they can afford all this crap on a regular basis!!)

Wendysfriend · 17/07/2023 21:58

I wish I had ads like this, every time I put on the TV it's a woman shaving her hoo Haa, telling us to shave your pubic hair. Not great when you're settling down to a nice bowl of crunchy nuts 🤢🤢🤮🤮

WhileMyGuitarGentlyWeeps · 17/07/2023 21:59

Personally I would like to see them advertising Bison Burgers.

What ad is this?! Shock

Needmorelego · 17/07/2023 22:00

I have a terrible diet. I know I do - it’s something I should change. I eat a lot of snacks and “junk” food.
But…. I rarely see adverts. I don’t watch live tv very often. I don’t really take much notice of advertising posters. I don’t read newspapers or magazines that might advertise.
It’s not the advertising industry that makes me eat badly.

I am not no. 😆

WhileMyGuitarGentlyWeeps · 17/07/2023 22:03

@FunnysInLaJardin YABU. Companies are selling food, they need to advertise it FGS. Your food issues are not THEIR problem. Get a grip.

DemonicCaveMaggot · 17/07/2023 22:04

Why can't they do reruns of ads like the Martini adverts from the 70's and the 'I'd like to teach the world to sing' Coke ad.

All the ads now are annoying and puerile.

That's understandable, apparently the bison and water serpents theory's are by the same person and when you put bison I made 2+2=5

and Ice makers/American fridges

OP I watch TV and can't remember the last time I ate a take away - it's and advert not a command

I didn't know they had theories on ice makers and American fridges, I'll have to remember those.

yes - apparently - a major event in America led to us all buying American fridges with ice makers coated in special magic stuff to make us all complaint

Is it the ad for the bikini line razor?

If so, she's not telling us to shave our pubic hair.
