I’m currently in Spain and I’m a bit sunburnt from my first day here.
its now the secone day and a woman has just come up to me (on a local tour guide trip) and said how awful I look with sunburn. I’m upset about the comment.

AIBU?? A friend said no but I did comment to woman she didn’t need to be so rude.

Oh my god autocorrect, I meant to say I did comment to the woman to say she didn’t need to be so rude

Likely a drunkard. Ignore.

cocksstrideintheevening · 17/07/2023 13:24

have you misunderstood and she saying that the sunburn looked awful not that you look awful with it if that makes sense?

BlastedPimples · 17/07/2023 13:24

Did she feel sorry for you? Showing concern?

Karrpt · 17/07/2023 13:25

She meant the sunburn looks sore, which it probably is.

Wear suncream and cover up where you can.

billyt · 17/07/2023 13:26

Sounds more like mistake in translation. If she was a local her wording may have come across differently than normal.

2bazookas · 17/07/2023 13:27

In the current climate, she was probably concerned for your safety and health.

LaughterTitsoff · 17/07/2023 13:27

I think you probably misunderstood her.

Like if you'd bruised your knee or something, she'd probably say 'that bruise looks awful'....as in 'You poor thing'?

Either way sunburn does look awful, so you're probably feeling a bit sensitive about it.

Iloveanicegarden · 17/07/2023 13:27

Perhaps she was thinking 'oh, poor you, that's going to hurt later' but it came out wrong. I've got aphasia and things come out wrong quite often.

Needhelp1000 · 17/07/2023 13:29

thanks all.
she did come up and say ‘you look awful with that sunburn’ and walked off.

not normally a sensitive person but it’s hurt me. I was a bit sensitive about it this morning as I knew I was sunburn, just didn’t expect a stranger to come up, make a random comment and then walk off.

PollyAmour · 17/07/2023 13:29

She's concerned because you have allowed yourself to get burnt. Slap on the aloe vera and stay in the shade, and stop taking offence where none is meant.

LeviJeanQueen · 17/07/2023 13:29

It was strange for her to comment but everyone looks awful with sunburn. I wouldn’t worry about it. Use an appropriate suncream. 😅

Dixiechickonhols · 17/07/2023 13:29

It’s all in tone isn’t it. I’d assume it was ouch that looks awful (sore) type comment and perhaps concern you are out again in midday sun.

UtterlyUnimaginativeUsername · 17/07/2023 13:30

Some people are just rude. Don't worry about it!

DramatisPersonae · 17/07/2023 13:30

I think in your shoes I'd be more concerned that I'd burned badly enough on my first day on holiday for a complete stranger to express concern about it! I mean, it's a health issue, not a cosmetic one. For god's sake cover up in future.

Needhelp1000 · 17/07/2023 13:30

I do wonder if I’m the only one who would never comment if someone was sunburnt, it’s not my place too. If I did, it would be to a person close to me and said out of concert. This was more like a ‘you look awful’ then move on type of comment, if that makes sense

OP posts:
Needhelp1000 · 17/07/2023 13:31

Oh my days I meant out of concern, not concert

OP posts:
Catspyjamas17 · 17/07/2023 13:31

Rude for a complete stranger to comment on. Mind your own business.

Catcatcatcatcat · 17/07/2023 13:32

If you’re already sunburned, why isn’t it completely covered up?

If the burnt skin is so on display that a stranger notices it, you’re heading for further damage and harm.

Needhelp1000 · 17/07/2023 13:34

I was under shade and completely covered in sun cream. The woman literally wandered up, said I looked awful with the sunburn then fucked off. That was that. It has upset me but I guess I’m feeling a bit fragile anyway

OP posts:
Wishimaywishimight · 17/07/2023 13:42

Why on earth would you be upset by the words of a complete stranger? Maybe I am just thick skinned but I would just smile quizzically and say "excuse me?"

F1ymetothetoon · 17/07/2023 13:44

Don't let a random busybody spoil your day. Enjoy your holiday ☀️

ArmWrestlingWithChasNDave · 17/07/2023 13:45

What a bitch, being concerned about your awful sunburn.

Needhelp1000 · 17/07/2023 13:45

I know I’m sunburned, I’m treating it. It was the way she did it, making a comment with a face then walking off

OP posts:
statetrooperstacey · 17/07/2023 13:47

She shouldn’t be able to see it!!! Cover it up woman, in clothes not factor 50!! It needs to not be exposed to any sun at all .
