Where to live in Blackpool

Hi everyone

Hope that everyone has had a restful weekend Posting here for traffic.

We live in London but My DH has recently gotten a job in one of the hospitals in Blackpool so will be based there 3 days a week and needs a base which we can visit during holidays etc

Where do you suggest? We have 2 pre teen children of the same gender and are a family of ethnic minority so we want somewhere we can feel comfortable

We visited and liked poulton de fyre which was really posh, and were also in central Blackpool near the beach which obviously is very touristy and possibly out of our price range

As this will be a 2nd property, our max budget is £120,000, though not sure of where to settle, children's school will remain in London but want a place that we can spend all school holidays etc the property will be a bit of an investment so also need somewhere that will hold it's value etc

I have looked at Layton which seems more affordable but not sure of what the area will be like eg is it diverse, nice, quiet etc?

If anyone knows the area please advise

Alfie, is that you?

I think the nowhere decent within 100 miles of Blackpool hospital is the best
Grim up here it is, no nice countryside and the people are awful Wink

I'm not rising to this anymore. I have NOT said any of the offensive crap on this thread such as 'Albanian Mafia' but I seem to have been targeted for daring to point out actual DATA on how unlikeable Blackpool is and then subsequently blamed for ALL the negative (& offensive) comments! 🙄 Madness

Holiday destinations is what I actually said. No decent HOLIDAY DESTINATIONS (for families with kids like OP's) within 100 miles!

Also, pretty much everywhere has rivers?

Yeah, that hasn’t actually happened though.

You’ve been called out for ridiculing a poster when you were actually wrong (Eric Morecambe), stating there is nowhere within 100 miles of Blackpool that is decent and stating a 7 hour commute is acceptable.

You haven’t been ‘attacked’ or bullied.

Lake District
Peak District
Leeds
Liverpool
Chester
York
Yorkshire dales

All within 100 miles of Blackpool, I think the OP will be just fine

Sparkleshine21 · 17/07/2023 00:12

I have lived in poulton le Fylde, it’s a lovely town. Schools are good, easy drive out to the country. Great Eccleston is around 20 mins drive from the hospital as is Wrea Green and they are very desirable areas too.

AMothersWorkIsNeverDone · 17/07/2023 00:14

eh? what are you doing? You've had comments deleted before for this bullshit stalking people across threads

Yes and Whitehaven is in the Lake District! None of the rest are holiday destinations. I also live within 100 miles of Blackpool myself in a nice town but again, it's not a place you'd go on holiday.

If you don't agree with something somebody says, just scroll on! You don't need to challenge them

i think you’re confusing me with someone else. I haven’t had any posts deleted for stalking ever. In fact I haven’t actually posted anything in over a year until tonight. I’m starting to remember why I took a step back now.

funnily enough, you seem to have never posted before this thread. Any reason?

ErrolTheDragon · 17/07/2023 00:21

None of the rest are holiday destinations.

Some of them are (had holidays in them as, or with, a child), some are nice day/weekend trips. Maybe they're not your choice but they are other peoples.

AlfietheSchnauzer · 17/07/2023 00:22

@mollypuss1 Attacking & bullying is exactly what you've done!

Nobody was ridiculed by me. If I want to say that in my own opinion, there are no decent holiday destinations within 100 miles of Blackpool then I can bloody well say it love! YOU (& anyone else) can say that they disagree and that X or Y is decent without any need for any mocking/being abusive or offensive. That's the beauty of not living in a communist society, I am free to state my opinion politely & inoffensively. You're free to disagree with it politely & inoffensively. Targeting someone and attacking them because you disagree with their opinion is nothing short of bullying and stinks of communism.

You're running out of things now. Go hyper-criticise someone else.

mollypuss1 · 17/07/2023 00:22

York and Chester are definitely tourist destinations.

Again, I politely ask, where did I ‘attack’ you?

Absolutely. My point exactly.

I’ll take that as you can’t because I haven’t.

YesterdayO · 17/07/2023 00:41

Poulton-Le-Fylde has a branch of Booth’s, which I think is one of the MN criteria for an acceptable place to live.

It’s opposite the bus stop where you’d catch the bus to Blackpool Vic, or used to be.

Sparkleshine21 · 17/07/2023 00:49

@YesterdayO it has moved down the road now (still in Poulton) but it’s now huge and has a lovely cafe on the top floor!

YesterdayO · 17/07/2023 01:04

Even better!

Poulton must be thriving, then.

@vera99 Morecambe is horrible! I took my child there once - never again. Not a holiday destination at all which is what OP is also wanting this place to be.

Plenty of people commute 2+ hours each way! In my previous job it was the norm to travel up to 3.5 hours away each way every day for 12 months at a time.

I was there last weekend for the music festival, which was good. It's quiet, but lots of families were enjoying riding along the beach front. The OP's children are older, but I thought that the play grounds on the front were good. We drove up to Lancaster (which also has a Booths) and went to Heysham. It's like anywhere semi rural, you've got to be into fitness/walking etc. The Viking festival was this weekend and there seemed to be a few things advertised for the coming summer.
I take my GC to Blackpool, I'm going the middle of December. They have good, cheap children's shows and themed fairground rides etc. I've seen more homelessness, drugged up behaviour etc in Stratford upon Avon than Blackpool.

I was born in Preston and the first family holiday I remember was getting in the car and driving 16 miles down Blackpool Road (no M55 then) down to a guest house in Blackpool for a week's holiday and happy days they were. As your husband is a doctor he will have no shortage of patients in Blackpool, but they don't have blood in their veins just a slurry of beer, chips and fags. I do love the place though must have visited 200 times of more over 60 years and if we ever moved back from Welling near London which is uber convenient for ....THAT London a 2 bedroom seafront flat in Bispham would be my choice for niceness/convenience (the trams) and value for money. Here's one in your price range. https://www.rightmove.co.uk/properties/131723660#/?channel=RES_BUY

Also if you are thinking of going join the local Facebook pages I'm a member of St Anne's and Bispham groups which give you a lot of insight into local issues. I would say in terms of antisocial behaviours reports St Anne's is much quieter than Bispham.
