Where to live in Blackpool

Tjit · 16/07/2023 20:30

Hi everyone

Hope that everyone has had a restful weekend Posting here for traffic.

We live in London but My DH has recently gotten a job in one of the hospitals in Blackpool so will be based there 3 days a week and needs a base which we can visit during holidays etc

Where do you suggest? We have 2 pre teen children of the same gender and are a family of ethnic minority so we want somewhere we can feel comfortable

We visited and liked poulton de fyre which was really posh, and were also in central Blackpool near the beach which obviously is very touristy and possibly out of our price range

As this will be a 2nd property, our max budget is £120,000, though not sure of where to settle, children's school will remain in London but want a place that we can spend all school holidays etc the property will be a bit of an investment so also need somewhere that will hold it's value etc

I have looked at Layton which seems more affordable but not sure of what the area will be like eg is it diverse, nice, quiet etc?

If anyone knows the area please advise

I have given OP a lot of useful info this evening and backed up all quoted facts with the source they came from. I haven't attacked nor mocked anyone for their suggestions either. I did politely query if there was much in Lytham, St Anne's or Poulton as I couldn't remember there being much but I have not attacked anyone for their suggestions. Some of us don't behave that way! Some of us are fully grown women who don't get a thrill out of belittling others HmmConfused

Excuse you? You have absolutely NO right to tell me to leave ANY thread! How actual dare you?! 😂
You also have zero idea what I know about Blackpool and the surrounding areas! The arrogance! My late DH was from the area as a matter of fact....

Do NOT tell me what to do, just because I've stood up for myself. Unbelievable

Um... the post I was responding to seemed like you were very much doing that to another poster. I just thought it was rather funny you called someone a 'clown' when it wasn't her who was wrong and responded in kind (though with fewer emojis).

Some of the hysterical comments are hilarious. I've lived in Blackpool for ten years, having previously lived in many cities across England including Chester, London, Manchester, York Nd others

It's not a dump full of violent Albanian mafia and it even gets lovely weather 😂

My children go to an Ofsted outstanding school and we live just near the best award winning park in the UK. The town continues to undergo huge investment and over the last few years many quality places to eat have opened up as well as a more modern central market.

The beaches are free to enjoy, there is the Winter Gardens and the Grand Theatre for live shows and music. There are events on all the time on the promenade...air shows, music, comedy. Many of which are free to pop along and watch. You can jump on a bus for £2 and go through all the picturesque villages on the way to Lancaster and get off wherever you fancy for a country pub lunch.

Of course some areas have high levels of deprivation as does any major town or city. I've never been a victim of crime here or had any issues. Marton, Stanley park, Bispham, some parts of Layton and Squire's Gate wards are all decent.

I live in one of the most deprived wards in the country and have not experienced anything like what's been put in the comments here !

THANK YOU.

I've lived in Blackpool and never been the victim of crime nor met any of the "Albanian mafia". Never even met an Albanian tbh (closest I've got is Polish).

I bet the OP wish they never started this thread now.

Don't do it. Blackpool, aside from the deprivation, racism and violence, is one of the wettest, windiest, coldest places in the UK. You will end up spending a fortune keeping the children occupied if it rains because its not just rain. Its awful. Even in summer.

We went for the day as DC was desperate to go to the Sandcastle. We were home by 3pm as while the rest of the country was dry/sunny, it was torrential rain there. Yuck.

Oh come on! There are a lot of issues with Blackpool but it being a bit wet isn't the biggest - there's a lot to do indoors! Plus eating ice cream in the rain on the prom is part of the holiday!

But to answer OP: St Anne's is worth a look

So some out of date second hand info? Really useful stuff 👍 Some of us have actually lived in Blackpool or the Fylde.

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 Ya clown is a figure of speech! Omg!!!! Like "ya silly billy" it's meant in jest! That was NOT name calling or mocking ffs!

Also, to be clear, it was NOT me who mentioned any Albanian mafia I have not said anything of the sort

mollypuss1 · 16/07/2023 23:45

You haven’t stood up for yourself, you’ve called one poster a clown and another sad solely because you were wrong and they proved it. How dare you ‘attack’ people this way 😂

AlfietheSchnauzer · 16/07/2023 23:45

@ChildrenOfTheQuorn I lived with him for 18 months! You're embarrassing yourself now. Pretending to know all about a stranger's life. Are you drunk?

Jesus H Christ! Saying "you clown" is said in jest! Like silly billy ffs!
Also I never called anyone sad? Saying "how sad" in response to someone doing something that a not calling that person sad, it's calling the behaviour sad. Comprehension is everything.

You're really hunting for a pile on aren't you? Oh so virtuous one

AlfietheSchnauzer · 16/07/2023 23:49

I suspect it's past your bedtime!

If you bothered to search my username you'll see I've been on Mumsnet a while. Years actually but had this username for months. Please stop troll hunting it's against Mumsnet talk guidelines.

mollypuss1 · 16/07/2023 23:50

Do you own a mirror at all?

Now you're attacking how I look! Wow. You have searched my username then. Reported!

Nat6999 · 16/07/2023 23:51

Bispham is nice or going towards Lytham, but I don't really have any idea of prices. Have you looked on the East Coast? Places like Filey, The Bay resort has apartments starting at £100k, there is a pool, pub, Italian restaurant & you are 5 minutes drive from the centre of Filey itself.

Filet is the opposite side of the country. Blackpool is west coast, Filey is east coast.

Nat6999 · 16/07/2023 23:53

Sorry, just saw you need Blackpool for work, have you thought of looking inland instead of on the coast? Somewhere maybe 30 minutes drive away?

mollypuss1 · 16/07/2023 23:56

AlfietheSchnauzer · 16/07/2023 23:53

Less than 3.5 hour commute each way though so totally doable 👍🏼

Elfer13 · 16/07/2023 23:56

Well this post has brought the Blackpool haters out with very few ever having lived there and has gone off drift offering little help to the original question.
I lived in Blackpool for a while and thoroughly enjoyed it, whilst not particularly ethnically diverse you will find people have moved there from all over the country for various reasons.
I never experienced hatred on any grounds of race, gender, religion, sexual orientation or anything else that I have seen in other places I have lived.
However, back to the point, have a look at the North Shore area going towards Bispham.
To be specific, and try to help, you can buy a very nice 2/3 bedroom semi detached with driveway parking on Warley Road within your budget.
I have been in a few of the houses on that road as a few ex colleagues lived there, the houses are well built with large rooms and rear gardens and it is just faraway enough from the tourist areas to feel residential but near enough to enjoy what Blackpool has to offer.
The Vic hospital is not far away, neither is the main train station and you can walk to the seafront and catch a cheap tram along the front during the holidays with your DC to the Tower, pleasure beach, sandcastle indoor centre etc.
Don't worry about some of the daft comments on here, Blackpool is, or was, recently the second most visited place in the country after London so it must have something going for it.

AlfietheSchnauzer · 16/07/2023 23:57

@mollypuss1 Again, you're attacking people's suggestions rather than just helpfully pointing out the issues with it. Is this how you treat people in day to day life?

Again I ask, where is this ‘attack’?
