Going to Newcastle for the weekend
I'm from a small town and here you can get a Sunday lunch for around £10
So obviously my shock at the menu for £19.95 each
So with two drinks around £60
I just think it's daylight robbery

Completely normal where I am (SE).

This .

Mushroo · 05/07/2023 13:59

Also normal where I am (NW). Places might do 2 courses for £25 though

sinkorswimss · 05/07/2023 14:00

Oh see I'm not used to these prices in my town
So to me I was like woah ha ha

Standard where I am NW

Moveoverdarlin · 05/07/2023 14:00

I’m in the South West, and I would say that is the standard price in a nice pub. Been out the last two Sundays and the roast beef was £19.95, pork and chicken slightly cheaper.

£10 for a roast would be unheard of. £15 maybe in a cheaper, less upmarket pub.

sinkorswimss · 05/07/2023 14:00

I'm from Redcar

@sinkorswimss i can imagine the shock! Where do you live?! The past?

I need to go

BHRK · 05/07/2023 14:00

Standard price here, anything between £16 and £20 for a good Sunday lunch

Northernlass99 · 05/07/2023 14:01

Perfectly normal these days I am afraid. I really wouldn't know where to find a roast dinner for £10 near me.

Lastqueenofscotland2 · 05/07/2023 14:01

Normal here. The places that charge a tenner are pretty rank.

Skinnermarink · 05/07/2023 14:01

Yeah it’s normal here in South London but I think it’s shit when the potatoes are always reheated and the Yorkshires are flat, never enough gravy, meat invariably mean portioned and gristly. Yes I can obviously do my own better at home but I do love a decent pub on a Sunday! Might pay it as a treat if I knew it was going to be really decent, but sadly it almost never is. Our old local in Ealing, theirs started at £23 and they were awful the one time we went.

LidlOrAldi · 05/07/2023 14:01

I'm in South Wales and don't know where I would find Sunday lunch for £10 !!!

Shouldbedoing · 05/07/2023 14:01

You're probably not comparing like with like. For a tenner I'd expect a Sunday dinner to be quite basic, frozen veg etc. For £20, I'd expect something lovely from scratch

Skinnermarink · 05/07/2023 14:01

I’d rather just cut my losses and go to a Toby carvery to be frank.

SoftSheen · 05/07/2023 14:02

Where I live (East of England), £20-22 is about average.

sinkorswimss · 05/07/2023 14:02

No this is £10 at nice pub near me
All home cooked and fresh veg etc
I don't like Toby

The cost of eating out has gone through the roof over the last few years, but £20 for a Sunday roast is still expensive for the North East. I would expect that sort pricing in the South, but not anywhere else.

Nanna50 · 05/07/2023 14:03

Toby Carvery is almost £14 for Sunday Lunch and the veg is hit and miss.

sinkorswimss · 05/07/2023 14:04

Here there's a nice Italian that do two courses for £13
Starter and main
Two courses in Newcastle is over £25
Which is a big jump I think

I’m in London so it sounds really reasonable to me!

Shouldbedoing · 05/07/2023 14:05

Isn't Redcar known to be one of the cheapest places to live in England?

Skinnermarink · 05/07/2023 14:05

Is it 🤯 I’ve not been for about 5 years but was toying with going to the one not fair from us.

LaurieFairyCake · 05/07/2023 14:05

It's literally £7 for roll in the bakery near me, I can't imagine getting a whole roast dinner for a tenner !!!

A decent roast near me is £24 (South East London) - it's obviously lovely

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 05/07/2023 14:06

Where? I'm near Newcastle and most pub Sunday roasts round here are about £10
