Going to Newcastle for the weekend
I'm from a small town and here you can get a Sunday lunch for around £10
So obviously my shock at the menu for £19.95 each
So with two drinks around £60
I just think it's daylight robbery

£15 for roast beef and all the trimmings in my local, independent country village pub, £13 for turkey, pork or vegetarian. No photos of food on the menu 😉

Photos of the food on menus or outside an establishment should normally be done for the trade descriptions act !
It's rarely the same

@sinkorswimss " I just think it's daylight robbery "

Well themz Geordies, what do you expect? Magpies love the shiny shiny. lol :D ;-)
That does seem pricey, to be fair. Don't bother ga'an oot doon the toon, stay herm and have a parmo and a lemon top instead - it's for the greater good. ;-)

J/K, for any geordies passing by lol.

The OP is not comparing like for like, the places mentioned are at the top end of pubs in Newcastle, known for being relatively expensive.

If there is one thing the city centre has it is choice.

I got a decent pint of real ale for £1.79 last year, table service too.

Mile Castle.

Where is that because it's not the case where I am.

Gooniesnecersaydie · 09/07/2023 10:47

I'm in the SW and would expect to pay that.

That doesn't mean it's reasonable though and I do think it's taking the piss.

zingally · 09/07/2023 11:45

That would be about the going price for where I am in the Midlands.

DogsDryWineAndCheese · 09/07/2023 11:47

I’m sadly conditioned by local prices that I think that’s quite cheap! My local (where I’m off to for a roast this evening) charges £24-£27 depending on meat choice 😬

Grapewrath · 09/07/2023 11:54

Eating out is getting so expensive. It was £18 per head at Pizza Hut buffet the other day! I am in the south east and prices like that are normal but when I’m in the north east , the local village pubs are around 12-15 pounds

Roselilly36 · 09/07/2023 12:06

We went to a garden centre, a very nice one a few Sundays ago, (Norfolk) they do a wonderful carvery lunch, everyday in their restaurant for £9.99, it looked fabulous. Typically we didn’t know before we went and DH was cooking a roast that evening so obviously we didn’t have it, it was very popular. We have plans to go back.

ithinkifeelaliveagain · 09/07/2023 12:20

In rural Scotland and I’d expect to pay 15-16 pounds for a roast dinner! I worked somewhere that did a carvery for £10 in 2008/9!

EasterBreak · 11/07/2023 18:36

Completely normal, if not cheap here. Whenever I go anywhere else I think its cheap as I'm unfortunately used to paying stupid prices.

EasterBreak · 11/07/2023 18:37

I've definitely paid more than that for a roast local to me.

LoisLane66 · 13/07/2023 00:34

Two drinks at £20 each drink?
