To wonder if Labour actually will be any better?

Baabaagreysheep · 30/06/2023 13:35

I think like most people I am keen to see the back of the current bunch, but I am not confident that anything will massively change for the better. Maybe that’s a bit pessimistic, but I feel that while some things will improve some will get worse - and some sort of at the same time, so I’m expecting my salary to go up but also my workload to go up!

Thinking back to when Labour were last in power it was another world, really. Interested in views.

Well we know where the racebaiting came from and it wasn’t from a Labour supporter.

You don’t support Labour? Oh well I suppose it’s just not the same for you without Corbyn, is it

I never mentioned race. You did. Just own it.

Happy to. Nothing wrong with calling out racism. We all should.

inventing it however…

This thread is bonkers. The irony of being called a conspiracy theorist by a bunch of posters wailing ‘the end is nigh unless you can give the correct answer to my riddle - what is a woman’ Grin

further irony is that my views actually lean more towards gender critical but like fuck would I align myself with you lot. You’re a parody of yourselves.

My hatred of Sunak is nothing to do with his race.

It's based on his incompetence, lies in Parliament, etc., re the 3 million HE excluded from covid support, and then lied about the reasons, lied about the people affected, etc.

It’s not unfounded, for the reasons I’ve given. Suggesting an Asian origin PM should or will leave the country as he has “no reason to stay”, despite his roots, family, education being here is unacceptable.

Blossomtoes · 03/07/2023 14:45

It’s always denied, but your choice of language shows the bias. I’d certainly advise you not to repeat your remarks in any professional setting, especially around Asian origin colleagues. It could cause you a lot of problems.

This is a bit of a leap.

You sound a bit rattled, but ok if you are GC but align with others, you do you etc

I thought it was pretty widely understood these days that racial bias isn’t all about the explicit statement and insult. There are clear implications of suggesting a non white individual isn’t loyal or tied to this country, despite overwhelming evidence he is - the fact that he was born and brought up here, his family are here, he has a career of public service here. It’s just not acceptable and if people don’t get this then they need to, quickly, for their own sakes as much as anything else.

Threads like this always end up the same way: making fun of women who do not want protections based on the differences between the sexes to be replaced by unverifiable and undefinable gender identity.
I get that people will vote Labour. But I fail to see why people who vote or think differently need to be ridiculed, when they say that if you cannot provide a clear definition you should not be responsible for writing or implementing laws.

On the other hand, saying that someone who is British should leave the country because his ancestors are not white British, is just plain racist and should get told so.

Why should that question be a riddle anyway

It’s fundamental when it comes to drafting laws as you say.

It’s hard to see why that would be worthy of ridicule. It sounds deeply problematic.

in fairness the statement was that he would leave not that he should- but one has to ask why that inference is being made. It’s all a bit reminiscent of the “wandering Jew” trope - the people who, no matter what they do or what loyalty they show, will always be regarded as not being truly tied to the country. Always outsiders with no real ties. It’s unpleasant and it has no place in political discussion.

AgathaSpencerGregson · 03/07/2023 15:12

And of course wealth plays into it too, as it does with left wing anti semitism. It’s notable that while this sort of talk about Sunak is common among labour supporters, starmer steers well clear. He should perhaps give a stronger lead to his followers, though - but courage doesn’t seem to be his thing.
