To wonder if Labour actually will be any better?

Baabaagreysheep · 30/06/2023 13:35

I think like most people I am keen to see the back of the current bunch, but I am not confident that anything will massively change for the better. Maybe that’s a bit pessimistic, but I feel that while some things will improve some will get worse - and some sort of at the same time, so I’m expecting my salary to go up but also my workload to go up!

Thinking back to when Labour were last in power it was another world, really. Interested in views.

We need this lot to be gone to ensure they can't keep draining the public purse into their own pockets. Maybe the options aren't perfect, but it couldn't really get any worse than this lot. They are quite simply rotten to the core.

There is no evidence of any significant difference in corruption between the parties.

WaitingfortheTardis · 30/06/2023 18:35

@Happyfluffball I don't believe they would personally. The Tories have taken it to an extreme these past few years.

WaitingfortheTardis · 30/06/2023 18:36

@SueVineer I believe there is clear evidence the Tories have done this far more than other parties, but fair enough if that is your opinion.

A moral compass? The Tories certainly seem to have mislaid theirs.

Which political party has a moral compass? Cmon!

I’ll be voting labour and yes I think they’ll do a better job than the tories. I can’t believe that EVEN NOW there are people on this thread who think the tories are the answer. I despair!

There are plenty of politicians with moral compasses, even in the Tory party.

Currently the tories are without any talent or skill. They need to regroup to foster talent and cut the deadwood. They are not a party fit for leadership.

Labour are certainly more together and coherent as are other parties. Fact is though, unless voting strategically we will end up forever part of tories various amateur experiments.

How depressing for you that not everyone agrees with you!

I mean I hope they don't because I think they will win the next general election but I'm expecting the worst. Politicians are some of the scummiest people I've ever seen.

Hecate01 · 30/06/2023 18:58

If you live in Wales you'll know the answer is no, they definitely won't be better.

And before anyone jumps on the bandwagon and starts the old, "Westminster control the budget" can you tell me why Welsh labour have spent millions on upgrading A&E waiting rooms with wifi whilst my friend died waiting for an ambulance? It's disgraceful the way money is spent in Wales on airports and farms for festivals, but according to one post on here at least we have free hospital parking so it's all good apparently 🙄

dcbc1234 · 30/06/2023 19:00

What do “We The People” get out of Truss’s madness?
It caused savings credit interest rates to rise to a level above 0.01% for the first time since the 2008 crash, so actually that is a benefit for the mortgage-free/retired, provided inflation doesn't get too high. It's an ill wind and all that....

Gpnever · 30/06/2023 19:04

the lack of talent in the Labour Party is absolutely incredible, their ‘top’ politicians are laughable, not serious people, and would only be voted in because they are the lesser of 2 evils. Labour won’t win this election for being good, they might win because the tories have been bad.

as an adult, who has worked on even some minor projects at work and seen how badly things can go south without intelligent adults in the room, I really worry about things under our current crop of politicians .

Who in the current government is doing this?
this may be an opportune moment to remind you of the law of defamation….

Swrigh1234 · 30/06/2023 19:06

Why does the left hate Tories so much? They are a socialists dream. Highest ever taxes, mammoth state spending, a record 6 million people on welfare getting taxpayer handouts, open borders and record net migration, policing of thought aka non crime hate incidents, biological sex is no longer a scientific fact for them, kids identifying and treated as cats, dinosaurs and every other animal in the zoo. ‘What’s mine is yours’ has never been truer, since majority of police forces haven’t solved a single case of burglary in the last 3 years.

If you’re on the left, what’s not to like?

We don’t need evidence. Just vibes.
we want it to be true, so it is.

If you live long enough, you will realise that there are bad apples in all political parties and quite often sex/financial/lobbying scandals of some kind is what brings about a change of governing party.
It doesn't mean the new Government will be any better though.
I am offended by the left's ditching of 'free speech' on the altar of 'transphobia' and that is the most important thing to me as a woman who cares about the safety of other people's children.

Do the names Michelle Mone, Dido Harding and Alex Bourne mean nothing to you? The VIP lane for government contracts?

Almost 500 suppliers with links to politicians or senior officials were referred to the channel, where their pitches for contracts were automatically treated as credible by government officials charged with procuring PPE.

The existence of the channel, a highly unusual departure from standard procurement practice, is documented in the report by the National Audit Office, which reveals the UK government awarded £18bn of coronavirus–related contracts during the first six months of the pandemic.

SueVineer · 30/06/2023 19:16

Rishi Sunao has at least said a woman is an adult human female and doesn’t have a penis.

There is quite a big difference between corruption and "free speech"

This current government illegally prorogued parliament. The prime minister has just recieved a long suspension for intentionally misleading parliament. There is evidence the covid "fast track" contracts were fraudulently misused. Boris Johnson rewarded those around him who propped up his law breaking policies with peerages (Rees Mogg, Owen), influence (Lebedev) and money (Arcuri). That is the epitome of corrumption. He's been sacked for lying consistently throughout his life, he has a track record of nasty behaviour (Darius Guppy). His behaviour is way beyond normal.
Yet the conservative party chose a known liar to lead the country, then someone with batshit crazy economic policies.

If you can find me evidence of another UK government, of any persuasion, behaving in the same way regarding who they choose to lead them and how often they've broken the law I'll be very surprised .

I don't care how you vote, but even the Monster Raving Loony Party look a better option than the current crop of conservatives.

TheHateIsNotGood · 30/06/2023 19:23

She seems pretty switched on and smart and quite able to deal with any male buffoonery from whatever quarter it comes from. Not bad for a gal from a Guildford Council Estate.

I did also mention Reeves and Cooper with my equal confidence too - should I also be concerned about them for some reason?

I'm not rewarding Sunak for accurately stating some facts for a change. That really would be scraping the bottom of the barrel.

Every case taken to court challenging the lawfulness of PPE contracts has failed. And the campaigners picked what they judged were the best cases. Of course the VIP lane was unusual: it was a response to a pandemic FFS.

I’m sure there will be fraud somewhere in the process. There is in all government procurement, even - gasp! - under Labour governments. But without good evidence that it was the work of politicians rather than fraudsters, this is no evidence of corruption at all.

it’s this sort of thing that makes me think we’re a stupider country than we care to admit. Lots of people just swallow any old shit if suits their politics - left or right.

the above is in reply to Agnes and her questioning of Thornberry's ability to govern.
