lighthearted, mostly 😂

i’m on holiday with some friends from work, first time we’ve ever been away together but we have done nights away.

I’m sharing a room with one person who doesn’t really like sunbathing or being by the pool. Fair enough we’re all quite chill and have been doing our own thing and then meeting up in the evening for dinner/drinks.

She goes back up to the room usually about 1pm to read and chill out whereas I’ll stay by the pool til it gets too chilly probably about half 6/7. We always make a plan for dinner in the group chat and the. I always put a message saying what time I expect to be back at the room because obviously will have to shower and get ready. Every day this week she’s been in the room for 6/7 hours alone and only gone in the shower when i’ve come back from the pool (it’s like she waits for me to get back then runs in there) and she takes forever meaning I have to then rush. I got fed up of this and asked when she was leaving after lunch if i could use the shower at 6 yesterday and she agreed, but when i got back to the room (at 6) she was in the shower! and took a good 45 minutes for i had to rush again.

aibu to think it’s a bit selfish if you’re in the room all day to wait to use the shower until the person you’re sharing with gets back from the pool, making them rush to get ready?

It’s hot .
She wants to shower just before dinner.
If you can’t cope with that then leave the pool earlier and have an earlier shower
Its not your call
Bit rude texting / telling her you wanted your shower at six and also judging how she spends her time!
You just have to calm down, stop dictating and remember it’s her break too.

Oh hello, 45 Minute Friend

I see you found the thread. 😉

she is a wasting selfish fucker for running the shower for 45 minutes while the world burns

@Brefugee She bliddy is! 😡

I’d put in the group I’d be back at 6 and get back at 5.30 and run straight in the shower 😅

This. Get to the room and straight to the shower and do your thing. You're quick anyway so she can still get in the shower for 6 (the time you would arrive) and take as long as she likes.

You then sit and chill with a glass of something..

A friends' grand-daughter has hair like this - very thick and wavy and almost to her waist - she looks like Crystal Tips - it's gorgeous, but it is a night indoors with hair products when she washes is (also once/week and no, it doesn't get particularly greasy)

exactly like mine. though after nearly 40 years I have it down to a set routine..I get loads of compleiments about my hair. its one of the few god things I have 🤣 but it has to be matained. my hairdrseers tells me it's one of the best she seen so shiny even as a child my mother said my hair took forever to wash. my sis hates it as she was blessed with fine hair but she also has it trained now to wash about once a week

theemmadilemma · 30/06/2023 16:51

Are you in the shower yet?

I'm aghast that anyone is so selfish as to have water running for 45 minutes.

I do a lot of at home spa treatments. You perform the treatments and THEN quickly rinse.

Misses point of thread but please tell me what spa treatments you do at home? Want some inspiration. Thanks

FishfingerFlinger · 30/06/2023 17:33

Spending 45 mins in the bathroom when you're sharing it with someone else is completely out of order. No-one needs to spend that long. If you want a really long pampering session, time it for when you're not obstructing the other person.

MachineBee · 30/06/2023 17:35

I’d just take my time showering etc rather than rushing and when she complains about being late to dinner just shrug and say well you should have let me shower first. Make her behaviour impact her, not you.

And change any dinner bookings to a later time.

it's very long think hair. it's past my bra strap. it takes time to rinse it properly and also needs a good conditioner which I brush through aswell. it's so thick I need to keep it on good condition or else its a birds nest. unless you have hair like mine you won't understand.

My daughter has very thick, curly hair that's a lot longer than her bra strap and it wouldn't take her 30 minutes to wash it at all.
She also only washes it once a week.
Sometimes she'll use a pre-shampoo conditioning treatment so all she needs to do is shampoo but on days she had to condition after it still wouldn't take anywhere near that long.

it takes time to rinse it properly

It shouldn't take that long. Running water is very efficient at quickly rinsing shampoo/conditioner from hair 😅

You said that people without your hair type wouldn't understand, so I'm just saying that there are people with longer/thicker hair who do understand and it doesn't take them as long!

you siad your daughters hair is curly..mine isn't it has a slight kink but so much weight in it it pulls it down so not the exact same then

@Wexone I commend you for being so polite as you’re grilled on your hair washing habits. The arrogance of some posters genuinely thinking they know your hair better than you is really quite something!

strawberrywhisk · 30/06/2023 18:14

Is the toilet in the same room as the shower, just say you need it before she showers and jump in before her

thank you very much. greatly appreciated.
everyone's hair is different and only you knows it
plus I pay my own heating water etc so I can take as long as I want in the shower.

Fallenangelofthenorth · 30/06/2023 18:17

I regularly spend at least an hour in the bath and I have pretty fine, short hair 🤷‍♀️

@RobynsMama what happened tonight with the shower?

AllHopeandRainbows · 30/06/2023 18:19

Can’t believe I’m so invested that I’ve just had to “watch” this thread 😂
Really need to find out if OP manages to beat the shower ninja tonight 😆

AllHopeandRainbows · 30/06/2023 18:20

Also, just noticed the above argument over hair washing. Gotta love Mumsnet 😂

Came to say the same thing! People are so weird. Patience of a saint, Wexone!

Hawkins0001 · 30/06/2023 18:27

Certainly inconsiderate

MsRosley · 30/06/2023 18:28

'I thought we agreed you weren't going to do this? It's my turn to shower first tomorrow. I'll be back at 6pm so you can either wait until after I've showered, or make sure you're done by then.'

Avondale89 · 30/06/2023 18:32

I hope she’s good company in the evenings at least!

gamerchick · 30/06/2023 18:35

Tell her. Ask her why she's doing that so you have to rush to get ready. It's selfish

EnjoyingTheSilence · 30/06/2023 18:36

Hair springing up into curls doesn't mean that there isn't much weight in it, it just means it's curly.

And a slight kink doesn't necessarily mean that your hair is so heavy that it's weighing down a wave/curl.

but I'm curious if you have you ever tried the curly girl method to see if the kink is in fact a curl/wave trying to form?

For years I thought my daughter just had thick/slightly bushy hair with a bit of a kink.

When left to dry naturally it started to dry in proper ringlets. I was shocked because I never realised she had curly hair 😂 Blowdrying it was stopping the curl forming.

She never did the curly girl method, it was just effortless once we stopped using heat on it.

No I don’t agree with a 45 minute shower . Tbh I got bored reading all the winging and didn’t get that far down the paragraph.
My mistake.
But I disagree with the rest.
Especially judging how others chose to spend their holiday. I wouldn’t lie on the beach, bench or bed all day. I would be exploring the area and travelling around. We all have different ideas on what makes us happy on holiday and no one has a right to sneer at how others enjoy themselves.
