Husband doesn't know my middle name

Together for six years. Have a one-year-old together.

He can't tell me my middle name!

Am I being unreasonable to think that this is offensive?!

This thread is truly baffling. Doesn't anyone on here (who doesn't know middle names) have house insurance? Car insurance? A mortgage? Book flights? Have joint bank accounts? Book hotels? Have passports and driving licenses? How utterly strange. I know my husbands and sons middle names, dob, place of births. My husband knows mine too. Sometimes I think I'm on another planet.

Me too buster. HOW can you not know your spouse’s middle names? And forgetting your children’s middle names? Bizarre.

My middle name doesn’t appear on any of those documents apart from my passport, and I’ve never used it to book hotels etc.

Nor mine. Ive claimed on car/house insurance several times, my middle name not being on there has never even come up. I certainly have never used it to book a hotel. Its on my passport because they specifically asked- many forms only ask for first name, last name etc

saltrocking · 25/05/2023 08:10

Op over 20 years here and mine doesn't know. Or rather he just forgets. He also doesn't remember the anniversary of the day we met, where we went on our first date, where his work socks are kept or if he locked the back door. He never forgets important football facts/events or how much money he has left in his wallet/bank. He only stains information that is important to him

ToeJammed · 25/05/2023 08:10

@EmptyBedBlues Same here. I've never used mine on anything, legal documents or otherwise.

Chasingadvice · 25/05/2023 00:04

He's never seen a single piece of Mail with your name on it? Never a rental or mortgage agreement contract with your legal name? Bank card?

What an odd lie to tell.

We don't live together. So no lies, says a lot about you that you instantly assume I did!

Fandabedodgy · 25/05/2023 08:20

Unless you use your middle name a lot it's an easy one for others to forget.

It's not a big deal.

My husband doesn't know any of my middle names, because I've kept them a secret from him. He's not going to find them out either.

Are they not listed on your passport?

Q2C4 · 25/05/2023 08:44

JacobsCrackersCheeseFogg · 25/05/2023 05:29

My husband forgets how old I am. I don't mind!

I'd forgive mine for rounding down, but not up!

CharlottenBurger · 25/05/2023 08:59

Sorry, I'd better clarify. It was a 'joke'. Evidently misconceived!

I stand corrected, but surely it's used when setting these things up? When my life/home insurance company contact me they use my first name and surname but at the time of setting up the plan I'm pretty sure they'd need formal ID which would have my middle name? My bank card says Mrs B A Gonand so that obviously has my middle initial on it. I suppose I just can't understand why partners wouldn't know these things. But we are all different.

A bit different though, it is a number that changes every year, I sometimes forget how old I am.

Conkersinautumn · 25/05/2023 09:25

You know you don't have to do any of those things with your middle name, when it says full name for most things I don't put my middle name. My husband only very rarely uses his middle name too, its on his passport and probably driving licence so I have to think hard, because its not like i am looking at those, i dont need to seen them!

UndercoverCop · 25/05/2023 09:27

This came up recently with my parents, I don't have a middle name but my brother does (they realised that we'd have the same initials for post etc and he is younger, so gave him a last minute middle name), DM does and DF said I don't either. DM looked at him strangely and said yes you do it's X , and he laughed and said oh yes I'd forgotten.
His OWN middle name.
I wouldn't be too worried about it OP it's not that important all things considered.

And not remotely funny.

Anyotherdude · 25/05/2023 09:28

Is it a test, OP? I have, in the past, forgotten myDH’s Birthday! It’s not a deal-breaker…

Ah okay. I guess I just use mine anyway. I do live abroad and we are forever filling out firms for work visas, spousal visa, visas to enter other countries so to me it's second nature to put my whole name. Previously to that I have always know my husbands full name. It's just something I know about him and vice versa. Maybe I'm just an old git now???

It made me and DH laugh. I suppose we must be stupid. Sorry! 😖

Every time I think the bar for men is low, MN shows me it can get lower Confused of course my DP knows my name! He knows my birthday and our anniversary too.

If he has access to your marriage certificate…

goldierocks · 25/05/2023 09:50

I don't think I've ever told my OH of 9 years what my middle name is, so no issue with that.

The fact he had no idea what colour my eyes are was a 'really?!' moment. They are not blue or brown, so I thought he'd notice/remember!

Deadringer · 25/05/2023 09:52

My middle name isn't on any of my documents, including my passport, and neither of us have looked at our wedding cert in over 30 years. I don't see the big deal with this, though my dh would never forget our anniversary or my birthday, as I wouldn't forget his.

FinallyTimeToSleep · 25/05/2023 09:54

I know my husband's middle name simply because it's a name I really dislike so has stuck in my mind :) his initials also spell out a name so hard to forget the first letter of us middle name at least! If he had a regular name like John or something, I'd probably have forgotten as you never really use someone's middle name! I think husband knows my middle name, but if not, it doesn't really matter. He's never had to use it!
