... to be crushed, I tell you, crushed, by what I've just discovered in my food cupboard?

Sad Disappointment GIF by BBC America

NO RICE PUDDING. That's what I've just found. No rice pudding. I just fancied some Ambrosia pudding but somehow there is none there. Nobody except me eats the stuff here so it's my fault the last tin used was never replaced. No one to blame but myself. That makes it a million times worse. Sad

Anybody got anything equally earth-shattering to share?

I found out that we have no cheese AFTER I’d made the fajita fillings. Who’s ever heard of fajitas without cheese. Gutted doesn’t go near it.

Love and prayers @Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g I hope in time you come to terms with your loss.

Ive got a packet of Birds Semolina (Use by Dec 2018) if that helps?

I'd have taken that if I'd known, Daisy. I regard use by dates as more of a challenge than a limitation in cases like that.

I live about 15 minutes' drive from the Ambrosia factory, OP (you can smell it as you drive past!)

Do you need me to go and break in and get you a pallet or two of tins??

My own secret sadness is that I wanted cheese and crackers when I got home and there were no crackers...

Oooooohhhhhh .....

In over 40 something perambulations around the sun, I don't believe I have ever tasted rice pudding. Sad

Should I buy some?

No. HTH

SOMEONE (looks hard at daughter) used the last packet of microwave popcorn and put the empty box back into the cupboard. I'd been looking forward to bloody popcorn for two days!

That would be my DH's trick too! The number of times I have gone to use something and it is either gone or the empty packet has been left behind !! Write it on the bloody board!! Then I know to replace it!!
He did this with cereal one time - no cornflakes for breakfast!! 😳To make things worse there was no bread either!! 😡 I hid the coffee jar after that one!! He is not human until he's had that first coffee!! If he ever was!!! 👹

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 16/05/2023 22:15

My son puts the peanut butter jar back in the cupboard with just enough peanut butter left in it to slightly disappoint a small mouse. Why?

I dropped the last Yorkie on the floor yesterday and the dog snaffled it

I hate it when the dog does that. They think just because it falls onto the floor that they have snaffling rights.

Trudij123 · 16/05/2023 22:16

For a minute then I thought the Yorkie was the dog…

Please, please elaborate on what French poo sausage is TheYearOfSmallThings?

Also known as andouillette, they are made of colons and smell like faeces.

Still less gross than Ambrosia rice pudding...

Oh Jesus, and I thought I was desperate looking at the cough sweets for sustenance. I can't un-see that now.

Truly offal, that sausage (sorry, had to be done)

Who, why?

Actually I know the answer, I have a mother in law from Taiwan, she loves those chicken feet 3 days stewed on the hob - its from the days when poverty was the mother of necessity and desperate ingenuity.

Somebody pass the twirly wirlies.

Times are pretty hard but not to the point of chicken's feet... yet.

I would love to have some ice cream but I don't have any and can't go out right now to get any.

I still haven't got round to replacing my emotional support tin of Spam, and we're about due another apocalyptic panic buy. What if I can't get it?

I have a tin of emotiomal support corned beef. I must find it a Spam companion.

msmatcha · 16/05/2023 22:37

I opened my new pack of giant M&S pretzels (the BEST), then opened a bottle of corona and to go with these beauties I opened my guacamole. Which had gone slightly fizzy. And I had no other dips in. Unbelievable. I had a strop with myself.

This us the best thread Grin howling picturing a German shepherd tiptoeing to snaffle chocolate biscuits

M&S clotted cream rice pudding is my absolute favourite, it's amazing

TheYearOfSmallThings · 16/05/2023 22:54

JFC you could have put the sensitivity blur filter on that

People need to know this is happening!

BrandyandGinger · 16/05/2023 22:58

I'm definitely going to make a rice pudding with condensed milk at the weekend.
I've made rice pudding with left over coconut milk before and it's absolutely delicious.
I live with teenagers so am constantly disappointed about food. At the weekend I bought a 5 pack of milk chocolate bars and left them in the regular cupboard. They were a decoy because I had hidden hazelnut chocolate bars in the top of the fridge door where just the garlic and tomato paste live. It didn't work. All the cupboard chocolate and fridge chocolate disappeared before I got some.

ifIwerenotanandroid · 16/05/2023 22:59

I've been waiting to try some nice-looking flavoured peanuts. Finally opened them today & they taste delicious but they're too damned hard. I spat them out & now have a whole bag sitting there, mocking me.

This thread caused me to Google St Ambrose. Turns out he's the patron saint of (among other things), makers of honeybread, bees, bishops, candlemakers, chandlers, the French Commissariat, geese, gingerbread makers, stone masons and wax melters.
As you were.

Last week I had a twix, with a cup of tea. I ate the first finger (very nice), then drank some tea and sent some WhatsApp messages. Then I reached out to get the other twix finger and...it was gone.

Nobody else came into the room while I was sitting there. It is fairly clear that a ghost ate my twix.

"A ghost ate my twix" 🤣🤣🤣

Biscuitea · 16/05/2023 23:25

I love that other people like rice pudding too! Thought it was just me Blush

I make from scratch with pudding rice, sugar and milk / cream / evaporated milk and sometimes go off piste and make chocolate rice pudding by adding in cocoa powder. It’s heavenly!

Salome61 · 16/05/2023 23:26

So very sorry! I treated myself by paying for an Amazon Prime film one Saturday night, got the ice cream out of the freezer and settled down to watch it. Took the lid off - bloody chilli. I'd forgotten I'd done a batch bake and used the box.

But I think the brand is actually named after ‘ambrosia’ apparently the food of the Olympian deities in Ancient Greece. They washed it down with ‘nectar’.

S.Ambrose is credited with having invented congressional hymns in the early church, so he has something to account for.

Slow cooker rice pudding was one my lockdown emotional crutches. Suuuuuper delicious. Funny how you can adore rice pudding yet be repulsed to your very core by tapioca or semolina pudding.
