Sad Disappointment GIF by BBC America

NO RICE PUDDING. That's what I've just found. No rice pudding. I just fancied some Ambrosia pudding but somehow there is none there. Nobody except me eats the stuff here so it's my fault the last tin used was never replaced. No one to blame but myself. That makes it a million times worse. Sad

Anybody got anything equally earth-shattering to share?

Excuse me, but....
CUSTARD PODS!

I bought 2 packs. Half price in Sainsbury's (introductory offer).
Sorry for that outburst

But the plastic waste! I thought we were trying to save the planet, not create mountains of custard pots, stock pots etc. Someone who stayed with me insisted on buying gel stock in plastic pots for a meal she made. Apparently far superior to stock cubes. I don't have kids and grandkids, she does. I'm the one trying to avoid plastic and she seems completely unaware that plastics are a problem.

If you don't have custard powder you can make egg custards in the microwave - not pourable but set with a bit of a wobble and taste nicer. :)

Custard powder is just cornflour and colouring, isn't it? Gives the comforting bright yellow colour of proper egg custard/creme anglaise, which few of us bother to make nowadays, I imagine. I certainly don't. On the odd occasion we have custard it's either ready-made or I use Bird's, which is what I grew up on.

Bird’s custard is the work of the devil.

Waitrose fresh vanilla custard is the only edible kind.

Apples and pears - both of which go well with custard! Grin

Real custard, sure 🤓

Did you know that there is an episode of Inside the Factory where Gregg Wallace explores the Ambrosia factory in Lifton, Devon, to reveal how it makes up to 360,000 rice puddings every single day? Admittedly it's Greg Wallace but still...rice pudding! It's on iPlayer for a while.

Forget trigger warnings for colon sausage, that previous link needed one! Angry Envy Gregg Wallace, eurgh. I watch Masterchef in spite of him, not because of him. However .... Ambrosia factory .... hmm. [heads over to iplayer]

YABU - The best cupboards do NOT contain rice pudding (only DH likes it in our house).

Ditto custard.

I realise most of MN will now be disagreeing with me. 🤷‍♀️
