Sad Disappointment GIF by BBC America

NO RICE PUDDING. That's what I've just found. No rice pudding. I just fancied some Ambrosia pudding but somehow there is none there. Nobody except me eats the stuff here so it's my fault the last tin used was never replaced. No one to blame but myself. That makes it a million times worse. Sad

Anybody got anything equally earth-shattering to share?

So very sorry! I treated myself by paying for an Amazon Prime film one Saturday night, got the ice cream out of the freezer and settled down to watch it. Took the lid off - bloody chilli. I'd forgotten I'd done a batch bake and used the box.

[Makes notes]

Sigh. It's very early and my morning tea has not yet been delivered. I meant to make notes on how to make chocolate rice pudding. Although, given my tendency to put unlabelled things in the freezer ... Grin

Last week I had a twix, with a cup of tea. I ate the first finger (very nice), then drank some tea and sent some WhatsApp messages. Then I reached out to get the other twix finger and...it was gone.

Nobody else came into the room while I was sitting there. It is fairly clear that a ghost ate my twix.

Twix and tea is a brilliant combination.

I have a more serious problem here. Out of milk.

I am in a house with no oatcakes! NO OATCAKES! Tis a travesty.

I have this same issue! What's worse is that I intentionally went past the only shop that sells the good ones on Monday, but it was shut, and I've just realised on the back of this thread that I accidentally went past it yesterday and forgot I needed oatcakes! I could be having "I've accepted DS2 is up for the day" oatcakes right now.

SOMEONE (looks hard at daughter) used the last packet of microwave popcorn and put the empty box back into the cupboard. I'd been looking forward to bloody popcorn for two days!

Just get ordinary popcorn.

Get a pyrex dish with a lid, put in a thin layer of popcorn in the bottom and make sure you put the lid on, heat on full for 2 mins.

'A ghost ate my Twix' sounds like a headline on the cover of Take a Break 😂

I was going to make rice pudding from scratch the other day because I ran out of Muller rice. Does anyone know if it's easy to make?

It is easy to make but you need to buy the proper pudding rice, it’s shorter and rounder than the stuff you have with curries, Basmati just won’t cut it.
But by the time you’ve gone out and bought the rice, bought the milk, found a dish to bake it in stirred the rice into the milk and baked it in the oven for however long it takes, you might as well buy a tin of Ambrosia. Aldi’s tinned rice is rather good.

I'm definitely going to make a rice pudding with condensed milk at the weekend.
I've made rice pudding with left over coconut milk before and it's absolutely delicious.
I live with teenagers so am constantly disappointed about food. At the weekend I bought a 5 pack of milk chocolate bars and left them in the regular cupboard. They were a decoy because I had hidden hazelnut chocolate bars in the top of the fridge door where just the garlic and tomato paste live. It didn't work. All the cupboard chocolate and fridge chocolate disappeared before I got some.

You could try what I do. I hide my chocolate stash in an empty tampon box. Chocolate whenever I need it

I was making a s'more tonight and the bottom marshmallow didn't get anywhere near as brown and toasted as the other two. I had to use it as it was because one always must put all the marshmallows on at the same time for proper, all over melting and stickiness.

I know I'll get over it, get past it and move on...eventually.

Just need a minute......💔😖😢😩😱

Please, please elaborate on what French poo sausage is TheYearOfSmallThings?

Also known as andouillette, they are made of colons and smell like faeces.

Still less gross than Ambrosia rice pudding...

What in the ever so helly frick is IN that colon sausage? It looks like the contents of a colon.

I cannot unsee this. Ever. This right up there with the Chopped episode that had pig uterus as one of the ingredients that had to be used. And cow eyes...

Some things should not even be left to the imagination!

I’d forgotten how good my mums Yorkshire puds and mashed spuds were until my neighbour invited me in for a New Years Day lunch. (DH worked away and he’d been away all over the Christmas period so I was on my own).
My neighbours Yorkies, and mashed spuds tasted just like my mums, the puds were little individual puds of light golden deliciousness, well risen with the delve in the middle just the right size to hold the gravy. The spuds were lump free, buttery mounds of ooomph. I asked for the secret, salt and bicarb in the water for the mashed spuds and beef lard for the puds. Heat the lard in the tins until smoking hot, add the batter, do not open the oven door for twenty minutes.
I followed it to the letter. The bloody puds were stuck to the tins, had to cut the well risen tops off. So no gravy pots. The bicarb in the spuds make us all fart all afternoon. Tasted nice though.

My husband has discovered my secret curlywurly stash.
Worse, the bastard cunningly replaced the empty package so I’ve been smugly sneaking peeks at it for days only to find out, after tonight’s healthy salad tea, that there are none left. I will therefore have to remain healthy, and hungry, until tomorrow.
Murder is too good for certain people.

Here is your scenario after that crime.

Neverknowing's neighbor comes by, gets invited in and sees Neverknowing in the kitchen.
Neighbor--Hi NK! Where is your husband today?
NK--He's out in the garden.
Neighbor--Oh, I came in that way and didn't see him.
NK--You have to dig a little.

Messing with someone's chocolate is a serious crime....😲😇😉

OK, so I'm making rice pudding today then 😂

I'm trying to run down the pantry ready for moving and we have two packets of pudding rice (how does that happen !!) so this thread was most fortuitous.

flyingtherag · 17/05/2023 08:00

take A break headline…

”A ghost ate my Twix”

Story is that she married him.

ends with a pic of “me now” twixless and sad but with a determination that there will be other twixes. And ghosts.

I opened some strawberries yesterday & there was a massive long bug living amongst them. I couldn’t eat them after that, so they went in the bin. I know, I know, I’m not usually that wasteful, but it made me feel all sorts of funny.

Salome61 · 17/05/2023 09:27

I've just remembered when the jacket potato in the salad drawer was an onion :(

TheYearOfSmallThings · 17/05/2023 09:28

More colon, chopped and rolled.

TopOfTheCliff · 17/05/2023 09:50

My DH has just told me he saw a little film of the Ambrosia factory near Okehampton. Apparently the rice comes from Italy and is dropped into the tin with a splash of milk then the lid goes on and it is heated up inside the tin before being labelled and crated onto a pallet. I wonder if they do tours.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 17/05/2023 09:54

I'd pay. The andouillette factory, OTOH - I'd pay not to tour that one.

This thread should have a trigger warning.

I've just had a flash back to the time I left a stick of chocolate covered marzipan in a bag on the living room floor and the dog (who has never before nor since stolen food) took it out, got it out of the wrapper, put teethmarks in it, discovered she didn't like it AT ALL and buried it in the sofa cushions.

I was almost desperate enough to wash off the dog hair and crumbs and ignore the teethmarks. Almost, but not quite.

Yellowdays · 17/05/2023 11:21

Keep in 500g rice. You can make 5-6 family size rice puddings with one pack, which costs £1.50 at Sainsbury, and cheaper some places. Just add 80-100g to a litre of milk and cook in the oven on a low heat for 2 hours. Add sugar if you want. Use almond milk if you're weight watching.

Slow cooker rice pudding was one my lockdown emotional crutches. Suuuuuper delicious. Funny how you can adore rice pudding yet be repulsed to your very core by tapioca or semolina pudding.

Just so you know, all three are revolting.

So is blancmange.
