To not understand why some women wear makeup to bed?

givemecoffeenow · 11/05/2023 20:56

In conversation with my best friend she told me that her mother has always worn a face full of makeup to bed. I just find it crazy that in over 20 years of marriage her husband has never seen her without makeup on.

Surely this can’t be a common thing to do, I almost never wear makeup in the house if I’m not expecting company let alone to go to bed. As far as I know it doesn’t bother my DP.

No.way.

I would never do this but I hate these threads where people say they simply can not understand why someone would do something….what you mean is, you wouldn’t do it so you want to bitch about a woman’s insecurities and imply how great it is that you don’t do it.

Its obvious - they don’t want their partner to see them how they really look.

BonnieGlasses · 11/05/2023 21:01

I guess they're either vain or lazy!

towriteyoumustlive · 11/05/2023 21:02

If I put make up on (going to work - don't want people saying I look ill!) then I don't bother taking it off at bed time. Far too tired!!

If I'm not wearing make up (quite often) then so be it!

Pseudonamed · 11/05/2023 21:02

Sometimes after a night out mine stays on but I think you mean she actually applies a full face to go to bed?

tikkanaan · 11/05/2023 21:02

How can you not understand it? I don't understand how anyone can not understand it.

This sums it up really OP

you just wanted to put other women down

MetalFences · 11/05/2023 21:05

I don't understand how people can get addicted to coffee so...

Sissynova · 11/05/2023 21:05

I remember reading that Charlotte tilbury wakes up every day before her husband so she can put her makeup on and her back in bed. I think she has an overnight makeup look she wears to bed too.
It’s bad enough that any woman feels the need to do this, and ultimately just really sad for their self worth and relationship but CT recommends it to every woman and makes it out that you aren’t working hard enough to keep your man if you don’t do this! Gross!

Or have low self esteem

gogohmm · 11/05/2023 21:07

I don't get it but then I don't understand why people put clothes on to sleep in either

Stressfordays · 11/05/2023 21:09

I fall asleep with make up on after a night out. I get my eyebrows dyed and have eyelash extensions so I don't look dead without make up though. Surely by morning its all rubbed off anyway?

Wicksytricksy · 11/05/2023 21:09

I do when I'm sloppy drunk, does that count?!

SpringIntoChaos · 11/05/2023 21:10

I live on my own...and am very often so knackered after a long, 16 hours on my feet kind of day, and very often can't be arsed to take my face off!

So judge me OP! I really don't give a shit!

You really 'can't understand! Really?? 😏

The OP is talking about someone’s partner never seeing her without makeup in 20 years. I don’t think she ‘doesn’t understand’ that occasionally someone is too tired to wash their face properly. That’s not what she’s talking about.

Stressfordays · 11/05/2023 21:11

Also do people who regularly sleep in make up not have horrendous skin? On the drunken occasions I fall asleep with it on, I'm suffering with spots for weeks!

user4750 · 11/05/2023 21:11

I’m very lazy. I wear full make up during the day and im too lazy to take it off at night. It comes off in the morning before the next lot goes back on. I don’t wear any at weekends unless im
going out so it isn’t about vanity or insecurity

OnSusansFloor · 11/05/2023 21:12

I would have terrible skin if I did this. Even if I accidentally fall asleep with makeup on I pay for it in acne for the next 2 weeks 😭

Loria · 11/05/2023 21:12

Your mum's friend sounds like she is unhappy with how she looks and lacks confidence.

I'm sure this thread will help with that though 😔 👍

Loria · 11/05/2023 21:13

Mum's friend ... Friend's mum ...

Yellowflowerr · 11/05/2023 21:15

I’m just confused by those who do fall asleep in makeup - is it not all over your pillow by morning? What a mess and also my poor skin would be horrible if I did that D:

user4750 · 11/05/2023 21:18

I sleep on my back so it doesn’t go over the pillowcase but it wouldn’t anyway since I use powder over my foundation. I change the bedding every week

Even on nights out where I have literally setting spray and hair sprayed my make up in place within an inch of its life, it will have come off overnight.

Must be different skin types. I’ve never used a setting spray or anything like that, just Clinique even better foundation, translucent powder then powder contour, blush, bronzer, highlighter, eyeshadow etc. I quite often wake up with my make up in a good enough state that I could just carry on and not redo my face (I don’t do that btw I shower and cleanse fully and use liquid gold, then put it back on)
