To not understand why some women wear makeup to bed?

In conversation with my best friend she told me that her mother has always worn a face full of makeup to bed. I just find it crazy that in over 20 years of marriage her husband has never seen her without makeup on.

Surely this can’t be a common thing to do, I almost never wear makeup in the house if I’m not expecting company let alone to go to bed. As far as I know it doesn’t bother my DP.

I’m very much into skincare so the thought of blocking my pores with makeup overnight and not letting my skin breathe … For the sake of looking perfect for my man?!? … 🤦‍♀️

And yeah she take off the makeup she has worn in the day at night, cleanses her face and then reapplies a face full of makeup so she always looks perfect for her husband. My friend was talking about this like she admired it and like it was the secret to a happy marriage…Just boggles the mind…

I sleep on my front/side with the duvet pulled up around my face so mine would all be smeared over my pillow which would actually be gross!
I don’t wear makeup often but I’m diligent about looking after my skin so don’t sleep in it when I do.

I feel the opposite I don't feel like myself in makeup I can't wait to take it off

YukoandHiro · 11/05/2023 22:05

I saw a documentary once which featured a woman who set an alarm at 5am to do a whole routine etc before her partner woke so he never saw her without a full immaculate face on. Insane.

Really? Your mind is boggled? And you don't understand? Can you not just accept that's what she wants to do?

I am always Halloween ready. I never wear make up at any time as I can’t be arsed. I probably should do, I look like I’ve just been dug up.

Fair play to those who can be arsed. I used to work with someone who waited until her husband was asleep to take her make up off and then got up at 6am to put it on again before he woke up.

My husband wakes up next to a fat lookalike of the corpse bride.

Does skin breathe more without make up?

doadeer · 11/05/2023 22:13

Skin doesn't breathe.

But clogged pores can cause breakouts and ageing.

EmmetEmma · 11/05/2023 22:15

Yes, but does make up clog pores more than moisturiser?

Precisely… I’m not clogging my pores for no man! 🙃

But I don’t see why foundation is any more pore clogging than anything else?

Karen398 · 11/05/2023 22:21

These women in general have really bad skin

Dinopawus · 11/05/2023 22:22

How does anyone's make up last to bedtime anyway? Mine's usually MIA by 10 am.

ComeTheFuckOnBridgett · 11/05/2023 22:22

I wouldn't call it mind boggling OP, she's clearly unhappy with how she looks without make up and wants to feel better about herself. If that's the thing then helps, it's more sad than anything.

I guess they're either vain or lazy!

I am definitely in the lazy camp. I never take make up off. I don't wear loads though.

AmeliaWarnerBros · 11/05/2023 22:26

To be honest I can look worse WITH makeup on so I don't really bother with it. I can't blend eyeshadow to save my life ..

Sunnycornwallanddevon · 11/05/2023 22:30

It's sad not lazy

gamerchick · 11/05/2023 22:32

I'd feel a bit sorry for them, that can't be comfortable. Skin needs to breathe.

ImaniThePrefect · 11/05/2023 22:35

I don't wear it out of bed, never mind in bed, so this sounds batshit to me.

Liveandsmile · 11/05/2023 22:36

Kim Kardashian sleeps in her makeup, her skin has loads of break outs I read

Oopsiedaisyy · 11/05/2023 22:38

I don't take makeup off at night, much to my daughters horror, but i only wear a tinted moisturiser and eye liner mostly. Don't ever break out.

AndTheSurveySays · 11/05/2023 22:41

An aunt of mine used to sleep in makeup because her husband thought she looked ugly without it.

NeverDropYourMooncup · 11/05/2023 22:52

A friend used to joke that if his wife fell out of bed, she'd have a full face of makeup on by the time she hit the floor. But dedicated 'when nobody is looking including me' makeup sounds utterly pointless.

God that’s so sad.

I suspect you know op it’s insecurity and lack of confidence for anyone deliberately not letting themselves be seen without make up. Which I think is a very sad way to feel you need to be. Particularly if you’re getting up early to reapply.

Nat6999 · 11/05/2023 22:54

I always had fake tan on my face when I was in a relationship, my brows & lashes dyed & a slick of lip balm on to go to bed, so I did look at least half alive when I woke up.
