Disclaimer: I’m not British and have no skin in the monarchy game, but I do think the ears are a bit much.

Dontcallmescarface · 06/05/2023 05:17

I was under the impression that MN was run by adults....I guess I was wrong.

I couldn't give a fat rat's crack wrt the monarchy but there are plenty of people on MN who do and by having this logo MN is showing how little they think of those members.
The whole thing smacks as "ha ha aren't we funny" when, in reality, it's just childish.

exLtEveDallas · 06/05/2023 05:18

I’m No pearl clutcher, but Fuck, that’s dreadful.

CardiffMam · 06/05/2023 05:19

I'm anti monarchy and think this Coronation is a complete waste of public money and even I was shocked at the logo. Not classy at all Mumsnet.

Butitsnotfunnyisititsserious · 06/05/2023 05:20

It's really childish to poke fun at someone's appearance, and it's even more so to laugh at it.

LadyLucksters · 06/05/2023 05:21

It’s disgusting. Not funny at all. Cruel and body shaming. Disappointed.

Use74074345 · 06/05/2023 05:24

It's awful, some people's DC have to go to hospital to have operations for this, how can they think it's acceptable.

ObfuscationWithMenaces · 06/05/2023 05:25

AskMeMore · 06/05/2023 01:35

I hadn't even noticed it until this thread.
Its fine.

why is taking the piss out of someone's physical appearance fine?
Post a pcture of yourself and let's see what we can take the piss out of if you thing such behaviour is fine

Knulp · 06/05/2023 05:26

Ears? I thought it was someone with big buttocks bending over in big girl pants with a crown balanced on top

CurrentHun · 06/05/2023 05:29

MNHQ Take the ears off please. Charles’ ears are fine and that’s a shitty low blow. Just have a Union Jack or a crown. With my poor eyesight I assumed this was a teapot until I saw this thread and now I just feel irritated, I wanted to be able to post today but feel I’m condoning something mean if I do.

Yfory · 06/05/2023 01:52

Its nasty. Imagine it was a kid we were talking about and their entire school decided that this one kid should be represented by a badge similar to that - with huge sticky out ears just because that kid happened to have big sticky out ears. Nasty bullying and not ok.

There's an entire thread about how teasing a kid is fine and builds resilience. So maybe th eking gains some resilience, copes better with leaky pens and whatnot

romaineleaf · 06/05/2023 05:31

Agree, thumbs down from me.

Urban769 · 06/05/2023 05:32

If ye want to pay me a couple of billion pounds a year to do f* all then I'll happily take a bit of a slagging...

It's not about the king though is it, it's the message it sends out, that making fun of someones appearance is OK, do you think this is OK then.

knittingaddict · 06/05/2023 05:39

AskMeMore · 06/05/2023 01:41

I guess you all want something more servile instead?

Hardly.

I'm not a royalist in any way (wont be watching the coronation) and hadn't even noticed the image until this thread. It's juvenile and nasty. Can't see the need for it at all. I'm surprised that mn think it's OK.

Would you mind if someone bullies your kids appearance then? Is it fair game to take the piss out of appearances?

breeboop · 06/05/2023 05:47

I was going to say it's shocking but it's not. Traffic is what matters right? Enough manufactured controversy to keep the punters coming back. I can't wait to see the apology they dream up for this one.

I thought that femvox spinoff site was a bit flouncy but I am starting to see their point😠The disrespect towards women's spaces continues unabated.

PickleThePenguin · 06/05/2023 05:48

It's awful. If they really wanted a coronation logo a crown by itself would have driven the message home that it was coronation day.

Hillrunning · 06/05/2023 05:48

AskMeMore · 06/05/2023 01:41

Nope. I can't stand the monarchy but I also cannot stand mocking someone physical appearance. How did this pass even the most basic of sense checks?

VestaTilley · 06/05/2023 05:49

Agree. And not the take I’d have expected from @mumsnet

No it's not OK to mock someone's appearance IRL, though I did LOL at the ferenghi ears on the crown

MrsMikeDrop · 06/05/2023 05:54

Very mildly amusing, extremely bad taste. I thought we as a society were past this kind of thing now

MintJulia · 06/05/2023 05:54

Catsmere · 06/05/2023 01:21

That was my first thought, too. Not funny. Straight out of The Goodies (who I loved … when I was 14).

Agreed.

But on the bright side, it shows we live in a decent country where gentle micky taking is accepted with good humour. There are countries where this sort of joke would get you 10 years in prison, or suddenly find yourself falling from a tower block window. 🐻

CIII won't mind 🙂

Butitsnotfunnyisititsserious · 06/05/2023 05:54

Well it is either okay or not. You don't just get a free pass to do it if it's online only.

Namechanger1002 · 06/05/2023 05:57

MNHQ will blame some intern and will not acknowledge they have messed up.
For all the PPs saying it’s fine - post pictures of your kids and let us rip them to shreds. I am not a royalist but this has shown an ugly side both to this site and to society.
I bet you were you all #bekind but only when it comes to a perfect specimen.
please reflect on your words!

aParsnipByAnyOtherName · 06/05/2023 06:01

lol I hadn't even noticed until you highlighted it 😁
