To be grossed out by human albumin in Botox?

LittleBoPeepHasLostHerShit · 03/05/2023 19:23

I went for a Botox consultation the other week and was just about to sign the disclaimer when I read at the bottom of the fine print that Botox contains "an ingredient derived from human blood and although no cases of viral transmission have been reported, this risk cannot be completely excluded". Yikes! 🫣 Was I unreasonable to change my mind at that point and go home? The injector (a dental surgeon) seemed very surprised about this.

And? You would put Botox in your face which is poison but not human albumin? Would you have a blood transfusion if you needed it? Just weird!

rainraingoawaay · 03/05/2023 19:28

Botox is hardly a savoury substance to be shoved in your face 😂 I have to be honest that part of it didn't even bother me!

Ossification · 03/05/2023 19:29

Ffs. You are happy to fill your face with a major toxin, yet run screaming forcthe hills for a non-reason
Get a grip

Sissynova · 03/05/2023 19:29

So you would have random chemicals injected into your face but suddenly it’s wrong if it contains blood?

Would you refuse a blood transfusion during an operation?

twistyizzy · 03/05/2023 19:30

Really?? 🙄

shivawn · 03/05/2023 19:30

Would you have a blood transfusion if it was medically advised? Maybe not a life or death situation but in severe anemia or something?

VeronicaTimeTurner · 03/05/2023 19:30

That’s grim, really grim 🤮

Qbish · 03/05/2023 19:32

You're going to FREAK when you discover that Botox is a toxin!

Qbish · 03/05/2023 19:33

And hopefully you never need and anti-D injection if you're rhesus negative...

WiseUpJanetWeiss · 03/05/2023 19:37

Botox is botulinum toxin, derived from Clostridium botulinum, which is a food poisoning bacterium. I can’t believe you’d have that injected into your face but not sterilised human albumin.

SurferRona · 03/05/2023 20:07

Why would you go to a DENTIST for this??? 😮😂 Have you no aestheticians where you live?

It's service they provide, so why not?

Dente · 03/05/2023 20:17

But people get human albumin in hospital if they have liver problems and need water drained ? So it’s not like it’s an unknown product.

User5438790 · 03/05/2023 20:20

A lot of dentists do it, mine does, I thought about having my underarms done as I suffer with sweating.

RampantIvy · 03/05/2023 20:26

Toxins are substances created by plants and animals that are poisonous (toxic) to humans. Toxins may also include some medicines that are helpful in small doses, but poisonous in large amounts. Most toxins that cause problems in humans come from germs such as bacteria

Virus transmitted in blood products…let me think….AIDS scandal?

Id be put off too OP.

JaneJeffer · 03/05/2023 20:37

Don't know why you're getting such a hard time over this @LittleBoPeepHasLostHerShit YANBU

A life saving blood transfusion is very different to cosmetic Botox!

JaninaDuszejko · 03/05/2023 20:42

Ok, I've had a check and if this bothers you you can get botox made with recombinant human serum albumin which will have been made in yeast. No chance of blood borne viruses. I'm sure you'll be able to check with a practitioner if they can get it before you make an appointment.

FWIW (I work in the pharmaceutical industry), since HIV was found in blood products in the 80s all pharmaceutical products derived from animal sources need to have at least two orthogonal validated viral reduction steps. So two different methods where we have shown using two model viruses (so two different types of virus that possibly could be present) to demonstrate at least a 6 fold reduction (i.e 99.999% of viruses are removed). In additional all the raw materials used to make the drugs also need certification. The risk is truly tiny even with the human sourced HSA.

If you have ascites you get human albumin infusions when the ascites is drained, ( it’s when you are in liver failure). All blood products are screened since the ‘mad cow disease’/ ‘aids’ scandals. Botulism is still a toxin, always will be!

LondonQueen · 03/05/2023 20:48

That's probably the least harmful part! You are literally putting poison in your face to paralyse the muscles...

Then why the disclaimer saying no guarantees as to virus free? (Mad cow, isn’t a virus btw). Perhaps the screening is only x% effective?

Oh sweet Jesus how please tell me this was a joke ...How old are you? Did you read up on Botox before you did it ?????
