Elf Bar witchcraft

I've name changed before posting this but have been here a good while.

I am a smoker...a heavy smoker. Over the past year I've been getting crosser and crosser with wasting so much money. I started to see disposable vapes in all the shops and noticed how much cheaper they are.

Over the years I have tried to stop smoking a few times and have tried lots of alternatives including vapes (last time was 5 years ago)

On Saturday I bought an elf bar on a whim, just to see what they were like. For the rest of the day I smoked miles less than I would have normally done

Yesterday, I smoked 10 fags (or there abouts) to my normal 30ish. This is with drink and a smoking DH.

Today I have had 5 and am choosing the elf bar as default.

This is witchcraft isn't it??

I realise there are many potential risks with a vape (the reason I have always said I won't vape) however I'm sick to the back teeth of smoking and everything to do with it...yet I can't stop. This contraption has, so far, had the same effect, completely by accident. I haven't made a decision to quit smoking (if I tell myself I'm not allowed to smoke I will immediately smoke 20 fags as that's how my brain works lol) but I cannot believe how effective these things have been!! I have cigarettes on the side yet I've just gone to the vape instead.

Has anyone else had this? If you have what are your tips and recommendations for flavours to help me swap out the fags for good!

@LeefPeeper I've just been looking at the vaporreso funnily enough. How similar is it to a disposable and how idiot proof is it? Thing is, I'm quite intelligent but I start reading about vapes and feel like I'm reading martian language 🤣

I’ve found the rechargeable vapes a bit rough on my throat, but I think that was the liquid I was using. Does the elf liquid give the same smooth hit as the disposables? I think it’s the nic salts that make them smoother?

PPs who have rechargeable elf bars - do you have the Elfabar or the Elf Bar Mate? Seems easier to get the filled pods for the Elfabars but don't want to get the wrong thing. Currently vaping disposables but it's costing me a fortune...

@thepurplepenguin glad it isn't just me who finds it a mine field!! I am still at the point where I'm amazed by how much money I'm saving but am also very aware this will change quite rapidly!!!

ATM I like that I can go buy a disposable like I can a pack of fags (however the poor people serving me are subjected to the whole "witchcraft" story at this point) Also, the disposables aren't scary are they.....you know exactly what you're doing. Actual vapes you seem to require a degree to understand!

Elf bars and the like are really addictive. You're still hooked on nicotine plus all the chemical nasties they put in vapes. There's enough information out there to tell you that vaping is still long term bad for you. There's not enough lung cancers yet attributed to vaping. It's pretty much a ticking time bomb. I don't know why people are willing to trust their long term health to these dodgy vape liquids. With cigarettes you know how it's killing you. With vapes you don't know. That's still not a good thing.

OP well done for kicking the fag habit but don't be a sucker and give up fags to get addicted to vaping.

The vape bit is rechargeable, and you get a plastic pod that clips on the top by magnet, which you fill up. The little black mouth piece clicks off and you put the juice in there. The pods last about 10 days 2 weeks for me, guy in the shop said a new one every 5 refills. You will know when you need to change it as it will not taste as strong and the juice can look a little discoloured.
there are different sized coils (built in to the pod) and one gives a much warmer vapour (0.8) which I don’t like, so go for the other size (1.2) which is much cooler

By vape bit, I mean the main body of the vape, the handle if you will

@ZenNudist I could have written that one week ago. At least it's costing me a hell of a lot less to kill myself with a vape than a fag.....the main reason I tried it in the first place. I am all too aware that the long term effects are unknown. However I would rather hedge bets on an unknown effect that's £4 a day than a known killer that's costing me around £18 a day. At least I shall die with more money in my bank 😁

they taste the same, but you defo get a feeling of having more vapour in your mouth. It’s hard to explain 😂 when I used a disposable one after a few months of my other one, I kept thinking the disposable had run out as I couldn’t feel anything in my mouth but got the taste after

@LeefPeeper my previous vaping attempts have failed as they were so different to fags (Button pressing, faffing, ginormous etc) granted my last vaping attempt was 2017. With the bars, I like that you literally puff on it like a fag and it sort of feels like one (draw wise, breathing it in etc) the last thing I tried before the disposables it was like breathing in flavoured air whilst pressing a button.

I realise I'm explaining this really badly 🤣

Basically, do you need to faff around with buttons? Do you get some resistance when you breathe it In? Does it sort of feel "faggy" (technical term that is 🤣)? Do you need a degree in vaping to operate it or can someone who would probably reach for a fag if given the choice pick it up and puff it?

I gave up smoking by vaping - started with the Elf bars and ended up in hospital coughing up blood, consultant said it was something they were seeing more of since disposable vapes came out.

I broke an elf bar apart and it's literally just cotton wool soaked in vape juice.

I now use a Smok RPM refillable vape and not had any further issues.

Just be careful going hard on the disposables.

10 years next month since I kicked a 18 year 40 a day habit with vaping :) good luck

I smoked for 35 years - probably as many as 30 a day whilst dealing with trauma.

Tried many ways of quitting over the years - tablets, lozenges, patches etc but the fags won every time.

Always said I wouldn't pay more than £3 a packet and there I was paying £11!

Looked at disposable vapes in the local shop and because I wasn't sure of the flavours I chose a fresh mint one. Got home, opened it, vaped, loved it!

Looking at the package I found it was a 0mg nicotine one! I went onto the internet where I found the elux legend 3500 for £12. It lasts me for a week so it's now costing me £12 a week as opposed to £20 a day!

However, I'm now going to look at the website you mention to see if I can save even more money. Cheers to this magic way of stopping smoking!

@Parentswriting exactly. Also, it isn't a magic plaster is it. Nobody is expecting that. However it appears to help get rid of something so detrimental, guilt filled and bloody expensive like some sort of magic - that can only be a good thing. Like you, a few years ago I remember being horrified that the smoker lady whom I shopped for, had her fags go up to £9.72 (silk cut) I was horrified and always said that there was no way I would ever pay that.....yet here I am paying £12 a pack. I was also overwhelmed by flavours, had a v long chat with the man in the corner shop, then bought a bar and 20 fags.

I may take the Mickey and claim it's a cult however I have never been so grateful to randomly discover something on a whim. I'm so proud to have gone an entire day (with early start) and only had 4 fags - what's more, it wasn't hard. DP is a smoker and it doesn't bother me. I sit there (outside) chugging something that tastes nice. If you'd told me a week ago that having 4 fags in what has so far been an 18 hour awake time day was possible I would have laughed at you. I am also bad foe smoking on car when my DC isn't in it - nothing ever satisfied that. This has.

Whilst it's not without its faults it's so, so much better. And I feel better!

This is my current pack of fags. This amount would normally get me through a half morning (wake up until after school run and dog walk)

I opened this pack on Sunday AM. there are 9 left. This is unheard of. I'm almost willing them to run out to be honest but I feel I need the proper fag taste first thing in the morning 🤣

been vaping for nearly 10 years now. I use a morph rechargeable and I make my own liquids. If anyone is interested there are loads of sites that show you how to do it.
The vaping liquid is made up of

Propylene glycol 1L £10 (this gives the hit at the back of the throat)
Vegetable glycerine 1L £7.50 (this makes the clouds)
nicotine 72mg/ml (250ml) £25
flavouring varies on the size you buy but 30ml is about £7

approx cost per 100ml is £4.30 less if you like a particular flavour and buy the larger bottles instead of the 30mls.

I quit cigs with vaping. Was when they first came out and you had to buy these bottle of vape fluid and add them. Slowly worked my way to the lowest nicotine setting before quitting them as well. I'd tried to quit cigs so many times before and never managed it. If it wasn't for vaping I'd probably still be smoking now.

@defi you're a fat better person than me. Genuinely, well done. I started at an age that should know better (23) and did well on champix 2 years later but not well enough clearly! Well done to you 🥳

It's funny, @Tidsleytiddy as I can taste it now and smell it on my other half. I think it must be some sort of placebo effect! Witchcraft...or The world's best marketing ploy 😂

Yes. They call it "high quality organic cotton wool". If you look on google pictures there is probably some pics, or YouTube vids of them being dismantled. I think some people re-soak the cotton wool with nic salts.

After the blood incident, I visited a locally owned vape shop and the guy said that an elf bar is equivalent to a really strong packet of cigarettes. He said they're good for Vapers who use large expensive tanks and don't want to take them on nights out, but bad for every day use. I thought I had a pulmonary embolism .

But to add, when I first switched to vaping, the disposables really did make such a difference and were the catalyst for me stopping smoking. I think it was because it was low faff, I didn't have to think about watts, I could just puff and go.

But after cough gate, I visited the vape shop and he set me up with a refillable no fuss option, think it was an Aspire. Draw activated.

Then I found the Smok RPM 40 and enjoy the flavours it gives. Far better than anything else I've used previously. I stick with 50/50 Nic salts, down to 3mg.
