Elf Bar witchcraft

I've name changed before posting this but have been here a good while.

I am a smoker...a heavy smoker. Over the past year I've been getting crosser and crosser with wasting so much money. I started to see disposable vapes in all the shops and noticed how much cheaper they are.

Over the years I have tried to stop smoking a few times and have tried lots of alternatives including vapes (last time was 5 years ago)

On Saturday I bought an elf bar on a whim, just to see what they were like. For the rest of the day I smoked miles less than I would have normally done

Yesterday, I smoked 10 fags (or there abouts) to my normal 30ish. This is with drink and a smoking DH.

Today I have had 5 and am choosing the elf bar as default.

This is witchcraft isn't it??

I realise there are many potential risks with a vape (the reason I have always said I won't vape) however I'm sick to the back teeth of smoking and everything to do with it...yet I can't stop. This contraption has, so far, had the same effect, completely by accident. I haven't made a decision to quit smoking (if I tell myself I'm not allowed to smoke I will immediately smoke 20 fags as that's how my brain works lol) but I cannot believe how effective these things have been!! I have cigarettes on the side yet I've just gone to the vape instead.

Has anyone else had this? If you have what are your tips and recommendations for flavours to help me swap out the fags for good!

You can see how kids like the sweetness though! Which I think is pretty dangerous as they are so easy for youngsters to smoke. I tried peach ice, cotton candy and sakura cherry and found them all far too sickly.

GoodChat · 05/05/2023 16:57

I'm disappointed with the blue razz after the hype Grin

GrandTheftWalrus · 05/05/2023 17:17

I currently use elfa bar and pods.

I cycle between cola, elfbull and watermelon.

I still smoke though but a lot less than I used to.

Zoologydragon · 05/05/2023 21:43

Evening anyone that's still here 👍 3 fags today despite a crap day!!!

I've also been disappointed with blue razz @GoodChat I'm really not getting it!!!

Still loving the lost Mary mint tobacco though. Also SKE rainbow is lush!! Tried elf bar spearmint today and that's also really nice and not remotely sweet so that's definitely going into the "repurchase box."

Think I might actually prefer SKE to Elf so at least I'm getting some sort of preference hahaha.

Yet to find a good actual tobacco though!

Hope everyone else is getting on ok.

@Tailfeather you are completely right. The upside of that (for me) is I've entirely lost my "sweet stuff" cravings

The liquids are generally sweet because one of the ingredients, the vegetable glycerine, is quite sweet. That’s why it’s hard to find a reasonable tobacco flavour. There are a few liquids that use extracted tobacco for the flavours but you won’t find them in disposable vapes or pre-filled pods. If you get a refillable system then look out for NET tobacco liquids. RY4 liquid is considered close to tobacco and you can buy it very cheaply as it’s a single flavour.

I tried a few tobacco flavours at the start but soon realised they weren’t for me. Better to work with the background sweetness in some ways and find a flavour that works for you. Most of my friends vape menthol as that doesn’t taste as sweet. A few go for Heisenberg which is a berry/aniseed/menthol mix.

I’ve only bought one disposable when I forgot my vape. Dinner lady lemon tart. It’s pretty close to lemon meringue pie and rather nice but I found the overall vape experience pretty poor, probably because I prefer a looser draw and a decent mouthful. There’s enough variety in vaping to find something that works for you

Kyse · 06/05/2023 11:21

I'm on a milk biscuits liquid at the minute!

chipsandpeas · 06/05/2023 11:32

i love a elf bar, i mainly use a refillable vape but switch to elf bars at times where they are convienent ie going on days out etc where its a pain to have to take extra vape juice, charger etc

Surely2023IsTheYearForMyRainbowBaby · 06/05/2023 11:53

@Trinity65 thank you

Zoologydragon · 08/05/2023 20:53

Ok.....stop the press. I have smoked 0...yes ZERO cigarettes today!!!!!!

I feel this is a bigger celebration than the coronation!!

@Jins I've found Riot Bar tobacco quite successful and SKE Crystal. I've also found that other brands taste much better than elf in respect of the ice pole sweetness thing in some of them. They're sweet but it's different! Elf berg is delicious (I think that's their version of Heisenberg). Lost Mary Mint Tobacco is also lovely but not particularly tobacco-y.

Think it's almost time to look at a rechargeable version however at the moment they're still scary as I really don't want to mess up accidentally quitting smoking haha.

Hope everyone else that has read this and commented is doing ok 😁

@Zoologydragon I’m definitely not looking for a tobacco liquid now. After 7 years or so I’ve found my flavours thank goodness and I’m a custard/butterscotch/caramel sort of vaper. I might occasionally dabble in a lemon tart but I’ve gone off all fruity flavours and can’t bear menthol or aniseed.

Well done on your first smoke free day. That’s how it went with me as well, I think I realised after a couple of days that I’d given up. Just like that!

People ask me why I don’t give up my vape but I’m frightened of picking up a cigarette again. It’s a talisman nowadays as there’s no or very little nicotine in it

Cosycover · 02/05/2023 20:16

Can anyone link to a rechargeable they recommend? Elfbars are costing my DH a fortune.

I switched from elfbars to a Vaporesso Xros 3 mini.

It's a great devices, the pods last about 3/4 weeks of heavy use and cost about £2.50 each, you refill them with liquid (nic salts) until the coil burns out then replace the pod.

I highly recommend it. I went from spending £50 a week on cigarettes to £30 a week on elfbars, now I spend about £7-10 a week on my refillable consumables.

Zoologydragon · 08/05/2023 21:31

@Jins I know what you mean. I'm drowning in a sea of disposables at the moment because I'm on a bit of a roll and will do absolutely anything to not smoke again!! It's only been a week and I bought a good stock of disposables but I've already noticed how much less I'm spending.

Sorry, I wasn't insinuating you were after a tobacco liquid - that bit was in case anyone else reads this and could find it useful.

I really don't understand how these have worked so quickly or well - I was a (very) heavy smoker....two weeks ago if anyone had suggested I'd go a day without a fag I would have laughed in their face!

Zoologydragon · 08/05/2023 21:33

@EarlofShrewsbury that's interesting, I was reading about these off the back of the other recommendations and thought I'd read that you have to replace the pod bit every couple of daya or so. I looked at the cost of that and thought it was a bit pointless.

Jins · 08/05/2023 22:07

It’s good to hear there’s a cost saving using these bars. I’ve got costs down to pence nowadays as I make my own coils and liquid. I bought 100m of wire for about a fiver 4 years ago and I’ve still got 98m left. I worked out that vaping now costs me about £5 per month. 😮

I did spend loads on various devices and liquids getting there though but I’m still well up on the approximately £9-10000 I’d have spent on cigarettes

if you’re looking for a refillable, rechargeable device and you have a vape shop nearby go and ask their advice. They are usually really helpful and often have some to try.

Tailfeather · 08/05/2023 22:09

Those of you who have vaped for a while, how do you feel? There are always scary articles about vaping and even friends who still smoke cigarettes lecture me on the dangers of vaping, but my lungs feel clearer, no coughing etc. I feel so much better.

reesewithoutaspoon · 08/05/2023 22:39

Feel better vaping, also noticed I haven't had a chest infection since I started vaping and I used to get them before when I smoked. Colds would often go to my chest

Tailfeather · 08/05/2023 22:41

Mine too. I have a 5 year old and he's constantly getting colds and coughs, which I would inevitably catch and end u with a chest infection for weeks.

EarlofShrewsbury · 08/05/2023 22:54

They work so well because the liquid they contain has nicotine salts rather than normal freebase nicotine. It is absorbed into the bloodstream easier and quicker so has a similar 'hit' to cigarettes that ecigs just didn't have before nicotine salts became a thing.

If you want to use a refillable pod device make sure the liquid is the nic salt variety. Start with 20mg strength and then you can reduce it over time.

Some brands the pods only last a couple of days.

My vaporesso xros pods last about 2/3 weeks and I've heard similar from people with the same device.

I like it more than the elfbars, I don't like the icyness that you get with a disposable. I buy flavors without the ice.

Pukka Juice Salts Blaze No Ice and IVG Salts Bubblegum are my favourites.

Honestly my chest is day and night different. No cough, no wheezing, no crackle. It's clear and ive been off the cigs for a couple of months.
Never had any issues with vaping although I still vape mouth to lung and not direct to lung so im not swimming in clouds of the stuff.

wafflyversatile · 09/05/2023 20:59

Elf bar watermelon helped lure me off them too. I'd never got on with vapes before.

I now use aeq vapes with watermelon ice elf juice from VPZ. Now I don't like elfbars and can't imagine having a cigarette.

Definitely breath better and can manage to walk up the hill that forms part of my road a lot easier than when I smoked.

Have ordered a Vapresso on the back of this thread. While I have been saving and returning my Vuse pods and disposables, they don't say what happens to them when you return them! And I'm fed up with spurts of liquid from the Vuse pod one.

Arriving tomorrow so I'm quite excited. Good to see the pods last longer than just the 3 days I read on the internet! That would have been annoying.
