Dogs peeing on car tyres

whyareallthegoodonesgone · 20/04/2023 10:09

Put on AIBU for traffic-
need some advice-
how do I word a message to put on road WhatsApp group?
basically- we have 2 cars- one on drive one outside our hedge on road
daily approx 2-3 times a day- someone is letting their dog pee on the car tyres.
firstly- disgusting. Why??? Just why??? Secondly there are bushes, verges and trees all along the road!
I am sick of cleaning it constantly now.
we have a child with severe contact anaphylactic allergies- we don’t even use that car unless it’s myself or hubby using it alone.
I don’t know who it is that’s doing it.
so wanted to compose a message to put on the road WhatsApp group that doesn’t come across as a doormat or being bitchy either.
appreciate any replies x

Sadly once one dog marks, others follow...

Hot chilli sauce where you don't want the doggo to pee normally works wonders, OP. You don't have to smear it on cos their noses are so sensitive.

Good luck x

Londontown12 · 21/04/2023 07:41

Dogs do this ! Won’t harm anyone it’s a tyre ! My brand new Audi is always being pissed on 😂😂😂

Vroomfondleswaistcoat · 21/04/2023 07:43

Dogs will also wee on wheelie bins, your gate posts, any bits you have stacked up against your front waiting to be collected/brought into the house, basically anything stationary that smells of other dog. They just will. Cats will spray the same places, foxes too, local drunks will come along and wee on them if they feel the need.
You will only see the 'fresh' stuff that has just been done. It will happen hundreds of times a day, but usually dry before you see it. So you are worrying about a tenth of the actual problem - which really is only a problem if you get het up about it. Cars, wheelie bins and gate posts have been pissed on for a lot of years and so far nobody has died as a result; nobody's car has gone for an MOT and had the garage say 'oi, mate, your wheels are going to fail, you've got to stop those dogs pissing on your tyres', have they?

Which thread was that? Was it all exactly the same posters as on this thread?
6 year old children can be directed to an appropriate place (FWIW I would not care if a 6 year old pissed on my car tyre once, 10 years and older is different) but still can be caught short, dogs on the other hand cant easily be directed.

For OP get your car off the street, then you can control which animals piss on it, except foxes, cats, rats, badgers, other wildlife who likely pass through your neigbourhood.

@Ourladycheesusedatum

Unfortunately I’ve lost my records for who the posters on that thread were. It was a 6 year old in a place where other posters confirmed that it was very difficult to find a public toilet.

I don’t understand why dog walkers don’t discourage their precious fur babies from
peeing on other people’s property. It’s rank.

Kvetching · 21/04/2023 07:46

Blimey, I really could not muster up the energy to care about this.

rwalker · 21/04/2023 07:49

It doesn’t really matter what your tyres drive through
its the breathtaking entitlement of dog owners to think letting there dog piss on someone else’s property is acceptable

I work for one of the utilities and dogs always piss on our cabinets and junction boxes
piss damages and discolours the metal

you’d like to think dog owners would pull there dog away from your car but most don’t give a fuck

PrincessHoneysuckle · 21/04/2023 07:56

Would give zero fucks about a dog weeing on my tires but at least you don't have real problems

PrincessHoneysuckle · 21/04/2023 07:56

tyres

Sally090807 · 21/04/2023 07:57

How do you know it’s 2-3 times a day. This has to be a wind up.

What's the effect of hot chilli sauce on alloys 🤔

FabFitFifties · 21/04/2023 08:09

As a responsible, experienced dog owner, I'd be " pissed off" too OP. Total lack of respect for the (very expensive) property of other's. I can honestly say in the 17 years of my last dogs life, I never allowed him to pee on someones car. Or their bin. Or their grass or plants at the end of their garden. Just lazy entitled dog ownership, of which we are seeing a lot more recently. I do admit, I'm not sure I'd notice it was happening to my car, unless I saw them in action. People let their dogs poo on random front lawns on our estate, and think it's fine because they pick it up. It's still not fine.

tiger2691 · 21/04/2023 08:16

Not much fun when they piss all over your motorcycle cover, that's for sure.

Eastofe · 21/04/2023 08:17

My grandma had a problem with people letting their dogs pee in her plant pots on her drive every day.
They were too heavy for her to move but when she stayed home from work one day due to illness, she sat in her front room to see whose dog it was so she could ask them to stop.

Turns out it wasn't a dog but a jogger. She pegged a note to the stake in the pot that said "dear dirty bastard, urinate elsewhere" or something like that.

Makes them tasty.

I have 2 dogs and I don't let them wee on car tyres and I can see it bothers some people.

But I don't have a problem with people letting their dogs wee on my car.

whatchaos · 21/04/2023 08:42

Dogs do tend to wee where other dogs have, if my dog wants to pee on someone's car or bin I'll always pull him away as it's a bit rank. I'd say car rather than car tyres - dogs won't be that precise and you don't want your car door getting sprayed. I don't understand the posters saying it doesn't matter, it's pretty gross.

Can you just say something like

'My car seems to be unusually attractive to the neighbourhood dogs and it's unpleasant for it to be covered in pee. Please if at all possible can you encourage your dog to pee on the bushes or trees on the road instead?!'

or something like that

sunflower85 · 21/04/2023 09:25

This has given me such a good laugh on a Friday morning. This is the most ridiculous thing ever and all I can say is, if this is all you have to worry about, to the extent that you felt the need to make a post about it, you clearly don't have much going on in your life, and I'd hate to see you in an actual serious situation. Good luck!

Sockloon · 21/04/2023 09:30

Most of the petty remarks to the OP are missing the point.

Some people like to take care of their property, having animals pissing on something I just paid £35k for and like to keep clean is an issue.

It not only stinks, but its not very nice of you try to keep your alloy wheels and tires looking nice some people take pride in their investment. If you have a car you don't take care of or do t care about fair enough but for others it can be a huge investment.

Newnamefor23 · 21/04/2023 09:52

May be a message, at dog height, near each wheel to ask dogs to wee elsewhere?

No good on whatapp as dogs, generally, don’t use whatsapp.

Peppadog · 21/04/2023 10:43

I swear on Mumsnet there must be a group of posters that just sit there on AIBU salivating over slating every single OP regardless of the topic. Just waiting to eject some bile at someone.

I swear that some posters are putting on ridiculous "issues" and then salivating at the arguments that follow.

I mean, did pee is everywhere and no one has a clue where it is, so why OP cannot put her son in the car, because it's on the tyres?

🤷‍♀️

CatA27 · 21/04/2023 11:19

All you people who day they don't let their dog, does your dog stop peeing on command? I just imagine that if I tried to pull my dog away once he had cooked his leg then the pee would be likely to end up up the car door too? Life is too short to worry about pee on your car tyres and cleaning them when 2 mins down the road you will probably drive over a rotting carcas just seems nuts!

Mostar · 21/04/2023 11:22

I can choose to drive over rotting carcasses. I cannot choose whether my wheels get coated in dog piss. That's the difference.

Mostar · 21/04/2023 11:25

To be fair, the dog piss might be the better option, depending on how sharp roadkill bones are and whether or not they can burst your tyres. Unless of course dog piss is highly acidic or like a really strong alkali.

Spot the entitled dog owner

its not so much the dog piss or it’s a tyre it’s the complete lack of respect for other peoples possessions to think it’s ok to let your dog to piss on them

No you cannot! Your going to swerve into oncoming vehicle or perform an emergency stop if you come across a dead animal in a road?
