Dogs peeing on car tyres

whyareallthegoodonesgone · 20/04/2023 10:09

Put on AIBU for traffic-
need some advice-
how do I word a message to put on road WhatsApp group?
basically- we have 2 cars- one on drive one outside our hedge on road
daily approx 2-3 times a day- someone is letting their dog pee on the car tyres.
firstly- disgusting. Why??? Just why??? Secondly there are bushes, verges and trees all along the road!
I am sick of cleaning it constantly now.
we have a child with severe contact anaphylactic allergies- we don’t even use that car unless it’s myself or hubby using it alone.
I don’t know who it is that’s doing it.
so wanted to compose a message to put on the road WhatsApp group that doesn’t come across as a doormat or being bitchy either.
appreciate any replies x

You can see if quite easily if a dog has recently peed on your tyre. Personally doesn't bother me, definitely wouldn't be cleaning it, but I would tug my dog away if he tried to do it. I don't allow him to pee on people's walls etc either. , lamppost, verge, field fences ok, but people don't want to come out and smell pee on their homes.
The problem is it won't be 1 dog, it will be several, marking where others have, so 1 does it and the others 'reply'!

MillieOns · 21/04/2023 01:22

A dog peed on your car tyre and you chose to report it on MN 😂 Seriously??

Don’t you have anything better to do with your life OP? Jeez! 🤷🏻‍♀️

JMSA · 21/04/2023 03:35

Please don't WhatsApp your street's group chat with that message! Excuse the pun, but your neighbours will take the piss forevermore.

Dunnoburt · 21/04/2023 03:48

Are you sure it's dog pee?.....could be a Tom cat marking his territory.....that would explain the frequency....

Jaa85 · 21/04/2023 05:42

Firstly, it’s probably not just one dog, if one dog does it, every dog that walks past will pee over it to replace the previous dogs scent with their own… dogs don’t only pee because they need to pee. They mark things in their path to show it’s their territory.

secondly, it’s a car tire, you drive over worse things I’m sure… I think if you are cleaning your tires because a dog peed on them you may have some form of OCD. That’s not a dog, just something you might want to look at.

The ammonia in urine is corrosive, it will damage alloys and the body/paintwork.
Unfortunately once one dog has weed somewhere others will want to cover that spot too.

Could you give it a good clean and either park so that side of the car is towards the road rather than pavement, or swap the cars over so it's on the drive for a while?

It's antisocial allowing a dog to wee on other people's property, especially cars. Unfortunately if you were to post on WhatsApp/social media you would be derided for it.

Gwendolines1 · 21/04/2023 06:16

Here you can see some suggestions, hope this helps!

Sashimiandhisthunderpaws · 21/04/2023 06:24

Also a lot of posters are being deliberately goady/obtuse regarding the difference between driving over stuff with tyres (rubber) occasionally and fresh urine directly down the side of the wheel(s) several times a day.

Walmu · 21/04/2023 06:33

A society where people disrespectful of people’s property.a responsible dog owner should steer their dog from peeing on someone’s car? I have those short retainers walls to the front of my house, sat in my car, I saw a dog pee on the post at the bottom of the steps to my front door. I actually spoke to the lady and she apologised, apparently happened very quickly, was too late by the time she realised. I thought to myself, if bigger dogs have do this before, I’m likely to have rested my hand on dog pee before. I shouldn’t have to deal with that.
So that thinking process is a sad way of looking at things. Society right..

faffadoodledo · 21/04/2023 06:48

Here's some reassurance.. It won't be a full blown pee every time you see it done. Most of what you see is simply scent marking. A short burst or spray (like a cat does) rather than a drenching. You might not even see it.

Honestly. I envy you if this is your biggest worry.

Please please don't put this on your neighbourhood WhatsApp group.

Starhead69 · 20/04/2023 11:31

It’s disgusting. You were all a lot more outraged when that lady posted a couple of weeks ago about her 6 year old peeing. Why is dog pee more acceptable? They shouldn’t be doing it on people’s property

Which thread was that? Was it all exactly the same posters as on this thread?
6 year old children can be directed to an appropriate place (FWIW I would not care if a 6 year old pissed on my car tyre once, 10 years and older is different) but still can be caught short, dogs on the other hand cant easily be directed.

For OP get your car off the street, then you can control which animals piss on it, except foxes, cats, rats, badgers, other wildlife who likely pass through your neigbourhood.

Devoutspoken · 21/04/2023 07:01

How much damage does the ammonia on pee do to alloy, isn't a car meant to be hardy, for outdoor use? All this fuss about a lump of metal, stored on public land. It would be much nicer if our roads weren't lined with cars all the time

Several times a day......

Hardly likely is it?

Frankenweenie · 21/04/2023 07:07

I'd probably be really petty and schedule a spy day to sit and watch for the dog walkers and wander out and politely ask them to stop letting their dog piss on my car. But no, I wouldn't send a WhatsApp message. That would be embarrassing.

mydogisthebest · 21/04/2023 07:08

I don't let my dogs do it although occasionally they have cocked their leg before I realise.

I really can't see what all the fuss is about though

What a wonderful way to spend a day....

Sod going to the spa!

QuintanaRoo · 21/04/2023 07:14

People are thoughtless. I have to say a dog weeing up my car tyre would not bother me……but if it’s really damaging the alloy I accept that’s a problem.

I saw a well dressed woman with a child once let her dog (on a lead) come into our front garden a couple of feet and wee up our hedge. I politely asked her not to let her dog do that. She was astounded it was a problem.

If the dog had been on the pavement and weed on the hedge I wouldn’t have said anything (even though I don’t let my dog wee on peoples gate posts, hedges, etc even if standing on the pavement), but to let the dog onto my property and and wee just seemed really rude. But it obviously hadn’t crossed her mind that it’s not the done thing. 🤷‍♀️. And while she was polite enough she made it clear she thought I was mad for having an issue with it.

I’ve even found dog poo 6ft up our drive! Some people are disgusting.

What can I say, if it were annoying me as much as the OP my pettiness would probably kick in. I actually did this once when someone was leaving dog shit at the end of my drive regularly, but I think that's a bit different as I was having to pick up random dog poo. In reality I genuinely have no idea if dogs currently piss on my car and really don't care.

Lougle · 21/04/2023 07:23

"I am sick of cleaning it constantly now.
we have a child with severe contact anaphylactic allergies- we don’t even use that car unless it’s myself or hubby using it alone."

This is irrelevant, surely? Your child has severe contact allergies. Are you suggesting that they are allergic to dog pee? They wouldn't be touching your tyres, so doubtful. But in any case, you say you don't use the car with your child, so their allergies don't come into play in this scenario at all.

There are solutions. You could buy wheel covers from eBay https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/334681249535?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=Y0ElgZGuSBe&sssrc=2349624&ssuid=eG6xFfVRQxG&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY

Or you could buy some 'pee off' spray https://www.googleadservices.com/pagead/aclk?sa=L&ai=DChcSEwiy2uKJq7r-AhVrgFAGHffCA8sYABAKGgJkZw&ohost=www.google.com&cid=CAESauD2XgZ9vqeIH9La9etPgJyEnQzviiP9Gl1JY8dwiiIE7YtI47lHc4JHtd3VNcMLnTxDCSZOE0r2r_OuZPUPbUmiSv3B7Ryn2zoGo4MM2Jx6jTQDRiPsxQM8kjnWgmTGgDyWXWPXR4_bSj8&sig=AOD64_01Q6qrTRuaOAzc3kSCPLS9pdKHdw&ctype=5&q=&ved=2ahUKEwij-9yJq7r-AhVVj1wKHcHRCw0Qwg8oAHoECAYQDA&adurl=

Other brands are available.

Nonbio46 · 21/04/2023 07:25

I never let my dog pee on tyres, bins etc. I would maybe try mixing some biological washing powder with hot water and clean the tyres with that ( bio powder breaks down enzymes apparently) to try to get rid of the scent and maybe put the dogs off from using your tyres. Failing that you could try Googling stuff that dogs hate the smell of ( lemon juice/ lavender oil or something) to put on the tyres. Good luck. 😊

Climbles · 21/04/2023 07:25

The problem is in-neutered male dogs pee about every ten seconds. I try to drag my dog away if he pees on cars but it’s often too late. I could avoid a particular car but not all of them. Once a dog has marked the car every other dog will want to do the same. It’s probably a few different dogs.

nomoredriving · 21/04/2023 07:26

@Frankenweenie if I worried about dog pee on my tyres, that I took a day to watch my car, then I'd give my head a wobble!

FOAD37 · 21/04/2023 07:31

whyareallthegoodonesgone · 20/04/2023 11:41

@SoupDragon i leave enough room for a double buggy to pass by comfortably- and only park the tyres on the pavement- only when the neighbours across have extra cars- to give them that little extra room to manoeuvre

How do blind people or those in wheelchairs negotiate your pavement parking?
And unless your child is touching your car tyres, please explain how it will get contact dermatitis?

Doone21 · 21/04/2023 07:32

I'm not sure all dogs have WhatsApp so doubt it would do any good.
