My DD school has put a message on dojo this morning that it's victorian day on Wednesday and the children come in dressed up.

I've knocked this up on the sewing machine and wondered if ifs victorian enough with her summer dress under?

Looks good to me :)

Why would that be U? It’s fine, there will be kids there in all sorts of questionable things if it’s anything like our school. For Tudor Day I borrowed a costume from the school so I didn’t even know what he was meant to be 😵‍💫

I wasn't sure if it looks right and victorian enough with her summer dress under.

I wish I had your talent. I’ve only just managed to master hemming a curtain on my machine!

WhatHoMarjorie · 17/04/2023 14:05

black tights and a pair of ankle boots and that'll do the job.

I'd have more luck coming up with something like that by praying to the Virgin Mary than having a go on a sewing machine. Skillz!

PurpleParrotfish · 17/04/2023 14:11

They literally gave you two days to buy or make a Victorian costume?
So glad our school only does World Book Day and occasionally ‘wear something blue for WaterAid’ or ‘wear odd socks for anti-bullying day’. I couldn’t cope with demands like that.

LauraSaidIShouldBeNicer · 17/04/2023 14:19

The school have form for this it's starting to drive me potty!! Very little notice for trips and every other week there's a new reason to dress up!

Is this some kind of stealth boast?

This

With two days notice, I’d tell them to get lost.

My oldest is 16 now but when he was at primary school, the, school celebrated their 50th anniversary of being open and decided that it would be "great fun" if the kids wore clothes, in the style of 1960,s fashion,as that was the fashion when the school.first opened ,of course they gave, about two days notice🙄

Albiboba · 17/04/2023 14:27

Is it Victorian enough?
Does it matter?
If it’s 2 days notice for a complete non event I’m most people aren’t at home on a Monday morning to be knocking something up on the sewing machine.

Weird post.

GoodChat · 17/04/2023 14:27

That's impressive OP. Even if it is a stealth boast, it's something worth boasting about.

OK I won't bite... OK maybe a little.

Yes it matters to me because when I told my DD about it she was excited to dress up, so if it matters to her it matters to me 😊

It won't matter because all the boys will wear ye olde football kit regardless of the theme.

No not at all. As far as sewing goes it's mega basic to be honest it's a regtangle bit of fabric with a ready made frill trim sewn on.

I was asking if the summer dress was okay under it.

They won't, they'll go in beige chinos and a white shirt smeared with a bit of dirt Grin maybe a flat cap if their parents are feeling a bit 'peaky blinders'

redspottedmug · 17/04/2023 14:42

Gingham was available on Victorian times so the dress is fine.

ZeroPlastic · 17/04/2023 14:42

It's fine, people will be in all sorts.

redspottedmug · 17/04/2023 14:43

@GoodChat nah. My money's still in the football kit, maybe topped off with a flat cap and some mud.

If it was for my sons class.... He would definitely try and wear his kit 😂😂😂

Nothing at all to do with the thread but this surely has to be the best username ever. I am crying.

Wnikat · 17/04/2023 14:52

We're all just jealous OP. If my school did this, my kids would be wearing ye olde school uniform

Jonei · 17/04/2023 14:53

Looks fantastic. Good effort.
