My DD school has put a message on dojo this morning that it's victorian day on Wednesday and the children come in dressed up.

I've knocked this up on the sewing machine and wondered if ifs victorian enough with her summer dress under?

Ooh, just wanted to add, if the clothes aren't selling a costume enough, go for props! I reckon I could make a Victorian paper boy by mocking up a "Titanic sinks" front page with marker and paper, maybe glue it to cardboard from the recycling for durability!

being a pedantic dick I'm going to say that the Titanic didn't sink during the Victorian era. It was the tail end of the Edwardian era really.

I like the paperboy idea though!

Oops, you're right! Still, I'll bear it in mind for if/when Victorian day rears its head and just look up some examples of Victorian newspapers. Weren't there a lot of weird hoax reports of women giving birth to rabbits and things? That could go down well!🤣

Lovely, hope your DD enjoys the day. Wish I had a photo of my great grandparents school in the 1890s to compare!

When my dd's school did this I ordered a costume from Amazon. Thankfully her school gave us proper notice cos my sewing and creativity skills leave a lot to be require. Dd wore a cap and pinafore apron over a long sleeved blue dress. If your dd has a plain dress or long sleeved plain T-shirt, she could wear, I think it might be better than the school dress. Or add a shawl.

The school have form for this it's starting to drive me potty!! Very little notice for trips and every other week there's a new reason to dress up!

Oh god, it's infuriating. We've had Egyptian Day, Anglo-Saxon Day, Stoneage Day, Pirates and Mermaids Day (to go along with their "under the sea" learning theme - so there's at least two things wrong with that), not to mention countless WBDs, "wear red/yellow/green/purple for random charity day, wear sportswear for Active Day, wear a hat for Easter...I'm exhausted with it.

We have two more years before they're both done with primary school. I can hardly wait.

I'm picturing lots of kids awkwardly trying to hop their way into school in their mermaid costume.
