To think M&S use of Enola Gay in their current advertisement is just crass in the current climate?

As above.

The song? If so, no. Why would it be?

Enola Gay, you should have stayed at home yesterday.

You do know what the Enola Gay is don't you?

Well, you could actually argue it was crass to use it for advertising at any time to be fair.

EscapeRoomToTheSun · 07/04/2023 01:27

Eh

Dropped the atomic bomb on Japan.

We've got Russia etc threatening nuclear.

Then models skipping about in shit clothes.

You tell me why you think it's fine.

The Enola Gay is a Boeing B-29 Superfortress bomber, named after Enola Gay Tibbets, the mother of the pilot, Colonel Paul Tibbets. On 6 August 1945, piloted by Tibbets and Robert A. Lewis during the final stages of World War II, it became the first aircraft to drop an atomic bomb in warfare.

I don't think its a good idea either OP.

Yes, it just came on 5 minutes ago. You're right though.

I know what the fucking enola gay is.
I don't see the issue, apart from you making it one in your head.
You asked for opinions, your getting mine.

Thank you.

I only have a 5 inch phone to post on.

I could very well have written Ebola Bay. I would stand by that too!

You are being ridiculous, not unreasonable. It's a song. That's all.

Wasn't it crass for OMD to make a pop song about it in the first place?

I doubt that M&S were thinking past the music, which is good.

Well M&S should have done.

The words of OMD say it should have stayed at home.
It's thought provoking about why.

As an advertisement it's not.

No, just by a hit song of the 80s instead 😂

SwedishEdith · 07/04/2023 01:40

It's a great tune. Gousto use it as well.

Oh Gousto - the mantra for living these days 🙄

I'm a child of 70s/80s. I wouldn't put on my play list for a party.

That song has been playing on the radio regularly for 40 years, when it came out the threat of nuclear war was real too.
It’s a bit late to be offended by it imo.
