What foods are always in your freezer?

Trying to get more organised so thought it might be useful to share ideas.

We always have veggie burgers and a sliced loaf of our favourite bread, several flavours of ice cream, and some frozen fruit for chucking on breakfast or for smoothies. There's usually a portion or two of something like a lasagne for lunch, that was leftover from a dinner. When we go away I try to always freeze milk so we can always have a cup of tea no matter how late it is when we get home.

What handy items do you always have in that help you throw a meal together? I tried frozen chopped onions which seemed like a really useful timesaver, but they tasted kind of weird to me - maybe I should try them again?

Stuff I've put in there/want to put in there; petits pois, broad beans, edamame, peppers, cauliflower, green beans, sweetcorn, chicken portions, steak, pork, lamb, mince, venison, chips, GF hashbrowns, raw King prawns, GF chicken goujons, GF scampi, fish, mochi, pineapple, berries, ice, ginger, vodka.

Stuff that is actually filling it up because DP gets there first: plastic packaging, boxes or bags with one broken waffle or half a tablespoon of manky chips, more plastic, microwave meals he'll never eat complete with all their plastic, cardboard covers and boxes - and mystery tupperware containers of stuff he won't ever eat or throw away.

IWineAndDontDine · 06/04/2023 23:17

A bag of frozen gyoza from costco. Teamed with some broth and some veg it makes a super quick and delicious meal!

Callixte · 06/04/2023 23:28

Sweetcorn kernels, peas, edamame, various berries, chopped fruit (mango, pineapple, peaches, persimmons, pomegranate seeds, kiwi fruit, passionfruit), peeled bananas, raw jumbo prawns, fish fingers, chips, pierogies, bagels, pita, carrot cake, fruitcake, ice cream, lollies, loads of ice cubes, veggie soup stock made from scratch from parings and saved in an ice cube tray, batch-cooked “leftovers” (lasagne, chili, lentil curry, quiche, pies both savoury and sweet), pie crusts, ginger, garlic, vodka.

I used to freeze leftover wine in ice cube trays, if no one would drink it before it went "off", and then use the cubes for cooking. These days, there's never any leftover wine! 🍷

Frozen seedless red grapes. They are a lovely sweet treat. You don't need many at any one time. Delicious.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 07/04/2023 01:28

Peas
broccoli
a shop bought quiche
oven chips
garlic baguettes
chicken burgers
veggie burgers
chicken breasts
home made soup

Also usually mince, meatballs, sausages, depending on where we are from the big shop at the start of the month, plus anything we spy which is on a yellow sticker and can be popped away for later - currently a gammon joint is taking up a lot of room.

Various homemade casseroles and pasta sauces. I don't batch cook, just make a meal for 4, we eat 2 portions and freeze 2.
Milk, sliced loaf, tortillas, breadcrumbs, naan,
Peas, green beans, diced celery in portions =one stick (cos I never use a whole bunch at once so it gets frozen)
Random homemade herb butters, usually labelled wrongly.
Aunt Bessie's yorkshire puds cos mine are rubbish.
Bacon rashers, chopped pancetta, diced chorizo

Groutyonehereagain · 07/04/2023 03:13

Bread, sausages, chips, homemade cake, fish fingers, peas, bolognaise sauce, curry, shepherds pie, pastry, stuffing, chicken thighs.

Maple2023 · 07/04/2023 03:36

Jacket potatoes
Steam bags of veg
Beige Grin fish fingers/chicken nuggets
Chips
Potato waffles
Aldi breakfast patties

The majority of it is taken up with meals as I live alone and batch cook. At the minute there's sausage/mash/onion gravy, veg pasta bake, gnocchi bake and chicken/mustard/leeks
All frozen individually in Pyrex
Cottage pie is next to go in

BertaHoon · 07/04/2023 03:56

I've got a bag for life full of crayfish that we caught about 10 months ago.

Honestly don't know whether to cook them or bin them.
The trouble is last time I dropped one between the fridge and the freezer... It woke up and I found the cats batting it about!

Peas, green beans, chicken, prawns, mince, chips and various unlabelled meals.

Always peas though.
