How often do you clean your phone? Do you take it with you to the bathroom?

Just wondering really. Long before covid was a thing I would clean my phone, just with a baby wipe, on the days I worked with children as the work was very messy with paints and crafts etc plus lots of kids coughing or sneezing or wanting to hold my hand, and then I'd need to check my phone every now and then. So it felt like it needed a clean.

Over the pandemic I got into the habit of wiping it down every time I got home. I do not think I will get covid from my phone btw, this was early on when things were unclear about fomites, but the habit has stuck.

Having to hold the rail on packed public transport I use frequently, that countless other hands have held, and not everyone is good with handwashing - my phone feels grubby.

I also never bring phone into the bathroom as don't like the idea of that at all. I'd like to be able to listen to music in the bath but seeing as we don't even have a bath in our current flat I'm not missing out! And will maybe get a speaker or something to play music from whenever I finally get the bath of my dreams.

What does everyone else do for phone hygiene?

I don't do nothing for phone hygiene.

Anycolouryoulike · 06/04/2023 20:44

Rarely unless I've dropped my dinner on it.

PinkyFlamingo · 06/04/2023 20:44

Nothing

StopFeckingFaffing · 06/04/2023 20:45

I give it wipe when it gets sticky

That's the extent of my 'phone hygiene'

PinkyFlamingo · 06/04/2023 20:45

Well I will ckeab it occasionally with a lens wipe nothing to do with hygiene though, just so I can see stuff!

Anycolouryoulike · 06/04/2023 20:46

I don't take it into the bathroom because I never have a bath and a shower only takes me a few minutes.

TattiePants · 06/04/2023 20:47

I’m not sure I’ve ever cleaned my phone unless there’s a mark on the screen. I don’t take it to the loo but do take it into the bathroom- currently lying in the bath!

PiffleIsTakingThePiss · 06/04/2023 20:48

Phone hygiene is a thing now? If this isn't peak Mumsnet I don't know what is. You, OP, have way too much time on your hands.

SergeiL · 06/04/2023 20:49

Clean it if it is so dirty I cannot read it. Otherwise no cleaning.

Greensleevevssnotnose · 06/04/2023 20:49

If it stops charging I'll fish the gunk out the charger port and I wipe it once the screen is dirty

Oneglassisnotenough · 06/04/2023 20:49

Regularly. Clean with anti bacterial spray and tissue. DH the same.

I don’t take my phone to the bathroom with me but he does . I don’t fancy the thought of poo particles on our phones.

CrapBucket · 06/04/2023 20:49

I am very thorough about phone hygiene, I lick my phone clean all over.

mynameiscalypso · 06/04/2023 20:49

I make sure I wipe the camera lens before I take a picture so it isn't smeary. That's about it.

Am so envious of your being able to have a bath, I miss a good soak!

Atealltheminieggs · 06/04/2023 20:50

I rarely clean my phone. Maybe once every couple of months I rem bee to wipe it.

Funnily enough I'm big on hand washing, wiping other surfaces, but my phone which I probably touch the most, I forget to do.

No I don't take it into the bathroom.

Hbh17 · 06/04/2023 20:51

I don't think I have ever cleaned my phone. A few germs never did any harm.
But I have never taken my phone to the bathroom either, because that would be weird!

WallPlant · 06/04/2023 20:51

Gets sprayed with dettol a couple of times a week and wiped over.

Generally when I get in from somewhere I perceive as germy.

Riding the tube. Theme park. Etc etc.

Mine gets a squirt of handgel after shopping each time.
I have to remind myself it isn't the edge7 I used to have; that could be run under the tap

lsanny · 06/04/2023 20:54

I rub mine over a clothed boob every now and then.

It comes to the bathroom with me for music when I shower

BeyondMyWits · 06/04/2023 20:54

I breathe on it and rub it with the end of my t shirt, but no, it never goes in the bathroom (or loo, or kitchen, or even bedroom)
