How often do you clean your phone? Do you take it with you to the bathroom?

Just wondering really. Long before covid was a thing I would clean my phone, just with a baby wipe, on the days I worked with children as the work was very messy with paints and crafts etc plus lots of kids coughing or sneezing or wanting to hold my hand, and then I'd need to check my phone every now and then. So it felt like it needed a clean.

Over the pandemic I got into the habit of wiping it down every time I got home. I do not think I will get covid from my phone btw, this was early on when things were unclear about fomites, but the habit has stuck.

Having to hold the rail on packed public transport I use frequently, that countless other hands have held, and not everyone is good with handwashing - my phone feels grubby.

I also never bring phone into the bathroom as don't like the idea of that at all. I'd like to be able to listen to music in the bath but seeing as we don't even have a bath in our current flat I'm not missing out! And will maybe get a speaker or something to play music from whenever I finally get the bath of my dreams.

What does everyone else do for phone hygiene?

It doesn't come in the bathroom. I clean it with an alcohol wipe every now and again, despite knowing how bad it is for the oleophobic coating. No one but me touches my phone though and I'm someone who washes my hands too much. 😂

You can actually make the screen smearing much worse by cleaning it with the wrong thing and removing the coating. Hand sanitiser is definitely a terrible idea.

WeWereInParis · 06/04/2023 21:58

I rub it on my jeans occasionally.

I don't take it into the bathroom - if I was a bath person I might have it in the bath as I'm not specifically opposed to it being in the bathroom. I just don't really like baths and prefer showers.

The trouble is that this level of hygiene paranoia increases resistance, making things worse, not better. Diseases aren’t jumping from animals to humans via their phones.

I was being a bit flippant, of course. I take your point, because that's how superbugs evolve. It's just that we know we can slow the spread of viruses with good hygiene, and I don't understand why any individual would gamble that their antibodies are up to the job when some viruses can kill.

Mywardrobesareoak · 06/04/2023 22:06

God how is phone hygiene a thing? Wipe it on my jumper if the camera is smeary that's the strength of it I'm afraid. People are bats , oh it comes into the bathroom with me at least 4 times a day

ggbbnn1 · 06/04/2023 22:35

I dropped mine down the toilet in work last week (only a pee). I used some spray and will probably never do it again unless the same situation comes up again

Amidoingitcorrectly · 06/04/2023 22:37

No, but people are being gross on the trains which is just, well, gross.

I once put my hand in actual vomit on a tube in London. I remember seeing a kid excavating their nostril onto the fuzzy seats. Sometimes you see people sneezing or picking their nose and grabbing the hand rail.

I don't think I'm going to get a novel virus from somebody's puke or bogie juice smearing onto my phone screen and drying out there, but I just don't want it there all the same Grin

Well. Now I feel like I should anti bac my phone.

TheNestedIf · 06/04/2023 22:57

Sorry, posted too soon.

I was going to say, norovirus sounds bad enough, never mind a novel virus.

Amidoingitcorrectly · 06/04/2023 23:01

Well quite! Noro is awful.

I'm shocked by the amount of posters (liars) who don't take their phones to the bathroom with them.

OoooohMatron · 06/04/2023 23:03

Cleaning my phone has never occurred to me

Emigratingimmigrant · 06/04/2023 23:06

Most hygienic thing i did to my phones ever was clearing dust from charger port 😂

Emigratingimmigrant · 06/04/2023 23:07

Immunity building innit

Bornslippery · 06/04/2023 23:10

It gets cleaned when I have a sneaky cigarette in the garden when it rains.

MrsElijahMikaelson1 · 06/04/2023 23:18

Daily with an antibac wipe

Ineedwinenow · 06/04/2023 23:24

Are poo particles an actual thing or a mumsnet thing? Confused Off to goggle I go!

Nope, I never clean my phone unless I drop it in something!

justplantedbulbs · 06/04/2023 23:27

I spit on my screen then crib it with my white sleeve to cowboy it

Pahpahpotato · 06/04/2023 23:27

Very rarely. It’s disgusting really as it goes everywhere with me and I’m a farmer. Lovely jubbly.

hedwigismyowl · 06/04/2023 23:31

lsanny · 06/04/2023 20:54

I rub mine over a clothed boob every now and then.

It comes to the bathroom with me for music when I shower

Me too, I forgot I did that. It gets a non-clothes-boob wipe when I've spilt my yoghurt or other food debris across it.

Teatime55 · 06/04/2023 23:34

I do give it a wipe because it gets food or paint on it occasionally. But nothing in particular. I’m never sick.

Hellodarknessmyoldpal · 06/04/2023 23:40

Exactly 😂

Hellodarknessmyoldpal · 06/04/2023 23:41

FootnerFanatic · 06/04/2023 20:53

I can't imagine going for a jobby without my phone.

Exactly 😂

Boomerangs · 07/04/2023 07:48

I clean mine with anti bac every day before I put the kids to bed
of I’ve been out a lot that day it gets cleaned in the day to.

shocked more people don’t clean but we all know how dirty the majority of the population is after all the soap sold out at the start of covid.. people who never usually bought soap.

another example of me being in the minority regarding hygiene ..
when I’m out for a meal I always wash my hands before the food comes and in the only one who ever does!

luckily hubby is the same re hygiene I couldn’t live with a grubby guy 🤢

Daisyinthegrass · 07/04/2023 08:02

I wipe the screen or the camera lens with my t-shirt if it's dirty or if my phone tells me my camera lens needs cleaning.
