How often do you clean your phone? Do you take it with you to the bathroom?

Just wondering really. Long before covid was a thing I would clean my phone, just with a baby wipe, on the days I worked with children as the work was very messy with paints and crafts etc plus lots of kids coughing or sneezing or wanting to hold my hand, and then I'd need to check my phone every now and then. So it felt like it needed a clean.

Over the pandemic I got into the habit of wiping it down every time I got home. I do not think I will get covid from my phone btw, this was early on when things were unclear about fomites, but the habit has stuck.

Having to hold the rail on packed public transport I use frequently, that countless other hands have held, and not everyone is good with handwashing - my phone feels grubby.

I also never bring phone into the bathroom as don't like the idea of that at all. I'd like to be able to listen to music in the bath but seeing as we don't even have a bath in our current flat I'm not missing out! And will maybe get a speaker or something to play music from whenever I finally get the bath of my dreams.

What does everyone else do for phone hygiene?

I do clear it regularly with desk / screen wipes but also do take it to the loo with me 😨

I am very thorough about phone hygiene, I lick my phone clean all over.

You're a cat, aren't you? 🐈

MathsNervous · 06/04/2023 20:57

Yes I clean it every so often with kitchen towel roll and soapy water.

MathsNervous · 06/04/2023 20:58

I take it to the loo with me too.

Kanaloa · 06/04/2023 21:00

Sometimes I wipe it if it’s sticky. I always use it to listen to podcasts in the bath.

Regularly. Clean with anti bacterial spray and tissue. DH the same.

I don’t take my phone to the bathroom with me but he does . I don’t fancy the thought of poo particles on our phones.

I never really get when people say stuff like this. Unless you strip totally naked before entering the bathroom then shower before leaving these ‘particles’ will still make their way to your phone, because they’ll be on your clothes, in your hair etc, and will then transfer to your phone when you put it in your pocket/hold it up to your ear and so on.

@Redebs no need to quote the full OP just to reply. We've all read it already Confused

Oblomov23 · 06/04/2023 21:05

Twice a year if I remember.

FrumptyMumpty · 06/04/2023 21:06

Never. Sometimes I spit wash the screen.

I don’t touch things the general public touch though, not an handle or rail or anything, and I’m not feared of my own household germs.

My bathroom is clean, although I wouldn’t recommend quenching your thirst from the bowl.

IsaiditwasLighthearted · 06/04/2023 21:06

I'll give mine a wipe after I've cleaned my glasses sometimes, probably about once a week or so. Occasional rub on my jeans if it's looking smeary.
I have the constitution of the proverbial ox though so I've never had a germ obsession.

Hamsterrace · 06/04/2023 21:09

If you don't take your phone into the bathroom what do you do while having a poo? Read the shampoo bottles? How retro.

RoseMartha · 06/04/2023 21:09

Most days

WunWun · 06/04/2023 21:09

Sometimes I splurge sauce or something on to it accidentally. If that happens I normally wait for it to dry then scratch it off

whatwhhat · 06/04/2023 21:10

I give mine a wipe if I'm wiping something down with a soapy cloth and it's near by. Like I've wiped the table down and my phone is on the table I'll give it a wipe before throwing the cloth in the wash. Same with the kids tablets. Probably a couple of times a week but no real pattern.

Sleepinatent · 06/04/2023 21:23

About oncea month I wipe the front on my trouser leg

RuthW · 06/04/2023 21:29

I clean mine everyday before lunch at work as I use it whilst eating my lunch.

Whattt44 · 06/04/2023 21:32

Phone hygiene? Does wiping the screen on a boob count? (Not a naked one obvs)

TheNestedIf · 06/04/2023 21:34

I do similar to you, OP, because I will have been touching things other people have touched and then my phone. I use a disinfectant wipe rather than a baby wipe.

Posters scoff at this sort of thing. I don't understand why. Especially in 2023, not long after a bat sneezed on a bloke in China and then we all got shut indoors for the best part of 2 years.

magicthree · 06/04/2023 21:35

I have never cleaned my phone, and I've taken in into the bathroom now and again. I am rarely ill.

The trouble is that this level of hygiene paranoia increases resistance, making things worse, not better. Diseases aren’t jumping from animals to humans via their phones.

5128gap · 06/04/2023 21:41

I take my phone into the bathroom. I give it a wipe with the towel if I drop it in the toilet.

Timeforchangeithink · 06/04/2023 21:44

I clean my glasses every day at breakfast so normally use the same wipe to do the screen. Never take it to bathroom

Motheranddaughter · 06/04/2023 21:46

Clean phone and laptop keyboard every morning
Do not take it into loo

Oakbeam · 06/04/2023 21:47

I’m another who cleans it after cleaning my specs. I use the same wipe.

glossypeach · 06/04/2023 21:48

I clean my phone with an antibacterial wipe after every bath - don’t like the idea of being clean and touching a dirty phone. And I thoroughly clean all electronics (Apple Watch, iPad etc) once a week. But I have OCD and it’s become a routine so I accept that’s likely abnormal.
