... to expect to be able to find Easter stuff in the shops today?

Just been on a fruitless search for some very basic Easter things today - small choc eggs, for example. No Easter goods at all to be found in three different supermarkets. Morrisons had a pile of large eggs in the middle of the fruit and veg section that looked like they were on their way outside and which you had to remove the shrink wrap from.
Thank goodness for Aldi's- still got an Easter display.
IANBU, am I?? There are three days until Easter Day. I realise that no shop wants a load of eggs left over on Monday ... but my customer satisfaction level is now below zero! It's the same at Christmas... go to the shops on, say, December 22nd and they'll already be binning the Christmas stuff. Are we all meant to get everything a month in advance??

I agree, it's bloody ridiculous. I was out on Monday looking for for Easter eggs and the selection was abysmal. The shops were bursting with them in February. I appreciate being organised and preparing early but I do not want to have to buy Easter eggs in flipping February!

TimeForMeToF1y · 06/04/2023 13:52

You clearly don't Iive anywhere near me, I've been shopping today and seen Easter stuff in Home Bargains, Poundland, The Range and Sainbutya

PegSliderskew · 06/04/2023 13:58

Having visited Tesco and Morrisons on Monday, it seems that white chocolate buttons eggs are a drug on the market, but cadburys mini eggs have vanished.

Anonymouseposter · 06/04/2023 13:58

Retail are ridiculous for this. They put in stock too early and clear it out too early. I suppose they don't want to be left with unsold stuff.
Society seems to follow retail. Christmas trees used to go up the weekend before Christmas and stay until 6th Jan., Now they are up at the beginning of December and everyone's fed up with them by Boxing Day.

When my daughter was a student I wanted to buy her a warm coat in February. The shops were full of bikinis and summer dresses. YANBU.

OhMyCherriePie · 06/04/2023 14:01

Makes me laugh as my mum use to say get them all after Easter as they will be all half price (that’s what she use to do) but nowadays they are sold out way before Easter

MrsDeaconClaybourne · 06/04/2023 14:15

I nearly started a thread on this yesterday after hunting all round B&M cos I fancied a creme egg! I then realised I'd started a similar thread last year wondering when shops stopped stocking seasonal stuff before the season had actually happened. In October 2021 we had covid at the start of the month, when we emerged from isolation around the 15th there was literally no halloween stuff left. My kids are teens and when they were little I definitely used to buy Christmas stuff in the sales so it's definitely in the last 10 years or so. It's like you can't just enjoy now and have to be moving on to the next thing.

You will get people telling you you just need to be more organised but I don't want to do my Christmas shopping in October and buy Easter eggs in Feb

FangsForTheMemory · 06/04/2023 14:19

Found it, bought it, et it.

4eyesbigthighs · 06/04/2023 14:20

I can’t help but agree but it’s our own fault 😂

I’ve been so disorganised this year.

shopping through Morrisons on Amazon has absolutely saved my area today though!

the egg hunt LIVES to see another year!

twolilacs · 06/04/2023 14:26

I've been in my local Tesco about an hour ago. Plenty of hot cross buns, Easter eggs, cakes and decorative nick nacks to be had.

SlipperyLizard · 06/04/2023 14:29

My local asda was clearing the Easter stock away this morning - still got a few eggs, but not much choice. Annoying as I’d seen a recipe for an Easter cheesecake I wanted to make & now can’t get mini eggs for the top!

SpookyBlackCat · 06/04/2023 14:32

It’s all very well to say you don’t want to buy things early, but that’s just the way
it is. You snooze, you lose. It’s the way retail is these days.

Hungrycaterpillarsmummy · 06/04/2023 14:33

I agree op and I made this mistake last year. I think Lidl saved the day for me.

This year I was much more organised!

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 06/04/2023 14:35

Well you’re not wrong in principle, as it’s ridiculous so I voted YANBU

But it’s been like this for the last few years at least - you can’t get Easter stuff in the last few days before Easter - so they aren’t left with surplus. Annoying!

It’s been there since Christmas mind you!

StaySpicy · 06/04/2023 14:36

Just in our local Sainsbury's. Plenty of Easter eggs and someone was putting out more. Lots of bonnets, bunny ears headbands, door wreaths etc. However, absolutely no mini eggs of any shape or form except for some Reese's peanut butter ones.

WhatATimeToBeAlive · 06/04/2023 14:37

YANBU. I went shopping for an egg yesterday and there was bugger all left in Tesco! Retail has already moved on to the next big thing - the Coronation. It was the same a few days before Christmas - barely a mince pie to be found.

itsgettingweird · 06/04/2023 14:37

Of course YaBU.

Easter is a few days away.

Time to be putting up the Halloween decs and getting the fireworks out WinkGrin

It's like trying to buy summer stuff in July. Unless you want a big thick winter coat for your summer holiday then forget about it!

QueefQueen80s · 06/04/2023 14:40

I hate it when retail do this. Halloween is a big one, can't find anything the day before or on the day. There are 1000s of last minute shoppers!

StrictlyAFemaleFemale · 06/04/2023 14:40

You snooze you lose.

mistermagpie · 06/04/2023 14:40

I'm literally just back from home bargains, where they were packing the Easter stuff away!! They only had Reeses peanut butter eggs left.

I did go to the big Tesco on the way home though and they had hundreds of eggs left, so there are obviously still plenty to be had.

melj1213 · 06/04/2023 14:41

I work in retail and it's been this way for years as now everything is automated.

So the system looks at trends from the last few years as to quantity and then they send in that amount of stock to stores. When it is gone then it's gone, especially in the 2/3 days before the event as they'd rather a few people be disappointed not to get that extra bag of Mini eggs than send in pallets of them and have 2/3rds left that are then going to have to be reduced after Easter to get the stock out of the door to make space for the next seasonal item.

As for stores removing stuff, these couple of days before Easter there will be bits and bobs of things left so the staff will be reducing the area it is being displayed in so they can be as profitable as possible ... No point having shelves half full of things that aren't selling if they can clear them off, fill them with stuff that is selling and then fill any gaps with a few last Easter bits to see if anyone buys them last minute.

Cherrysoup · 06/04/2023 14:42

Just been to Sainsbury and there were hot cross buns, lots of reduced legs of lamb. Dunno, seemed adequate. 🤷‍♀️

BetiYeti · 06/04/2023 14:43

YANBU, not been able to get bags of Mini Eggs for a while now in my area. Maybe I should have bought them at the start of JanuaryConfused

AnnaMagnani · 06/04/2023 14:43

You are unreasonable purely because I have also learnt this the hard way, finding empty shops when I thought I'd Swan in and pick up Easter eggs for my neices.

They clear Easter away early.

bumblefeline · 06/04/2023 14:44

Lots of eggs left in Morrisons just now but expensive. Home bargains had loads of creme eggs and only daim eggs or reese peanut cups. Glad I got most of mine last week.

HecticHedgehog · 06/04/2023 14:52

Yanbu but I realised a few years ago when finding empty shelves on the Thurs before easter if you don't get in early it's all gone these days! Gone are the days of reduced eggs after easter
