... to expect to be able to find Easter stuff in the shops today?

Just been on a fruitless search for some very basic Easter things today - small choc eggs, for example. No Easter goods at all to be found in three different supermarkets. Morrisons had a pile of large eggs in the middle of the fruit and veg section that looked like they were on their way outside and which you had to remove the shrink wrap from.
Thank goodness for Aldi's- still got an Easter display.
IANBU, am I?? There are three days until Easter Day. I realise that no shop wants a load of eggs left over on Monday ... but my customer satisfaction level is now below zero! It's the same at Christmas... go to the shops on, say, December 22nd and they'll already be binning the Christmas stuff. Are we all meant to get everything a month in advance??

I made this mistake last year, went to buy Easter eggs for everyone about now and there was very little left. So I got mine about 3 weeks ago, lesson learnt. I agree it’s bloody annoying though. The Thursday before Easter seems an entirely reasonable day to pick up some Easter eggs.

Change2banon · 06/04/2023 15:12

Do you wait until 3 days before Christmas to buy your Turkey and all gifts? Easter eggs have been in the shops since January! YABU for leaving it so late.

gogohmm · 06/04/2023 15:13

We're piles in both Tesco and Lidl today. Plus vegetables piled high, lamb on special offer

mostlydrinkstea · 06/04/2023 15:34

I had one more egg to buy for the son who likes milk chocolate with no flavours and no nuts. It took some hunting in Sainsbury's but it was there. Phew. Last year I went out on Saturday to pick up eggs and they were all gone.

Ffsmakeitstop · 06/04/2023 15:46

I remember I always used to get my kids reduced selection boxes after Christmas and Easter eggs of course. So disappointed that doesn't happen any more.

PeonyRose80 · 06/04/2023 15:56

it’s cos all the mini eggs are in my belly!

moveoverye · 06/04/2023 16:00

I reckon the store managers are still traumatised by the eggs that took until the summer to get rid of in 2020!
I, on the other hand, have very happy memories of scoffing a £1 Thorntons Easter egg in July ☺️

You snooze you lose.

Exactly this and why I have my xmas cake in September . 😏

Neededanewuserhandle · 06/04/2023 16:04

YANBU and anyone who starts blathering on about having bought theirs weeks ago can fuck of. IT IS NOT EASTER YET.

TyGoch · 06/04/2023 16:05

I've just eaten a Creme Egg and it tasted of nothing. Sad

You are unreasonable purely because I have also learnt this the hard way, finding empty shops when I thought I'd Swan in and pick up Easter eggs for my neices.

They clear Easter away early.

Well they are cunts and if there are no eggs for sale I can't buy any so shops have lost out not me.

Dixiechickonhols · 06/04/2023 16:07

No mini eggs around here.
Realistically there’s only 2 shopping days left before Easter they don’t want to be left with stock. It’s sort of equivalent to leaving Xmas present shopping to Christmas Eve.
You don’t need to buy in February but a week or two before is normal I think.

Tarantellah · 06/04/2023 16:09

Last year I had to buy advent calendars in August. Planning to do the same this year. It’s been like this for a few years, you can’t wait till the last couple of days any more.

dimpleton · 06/04/2023 16:09

Only massive £15 Easter eggs in tesco today, and no chickens apart from tiny cheap ones (wanted free range). I now have nothing for Sunday lunch as dc don't like lamb and there was tons of that 🤷🏼‍♀️

Deadringer · 06/04/2023 16:12

About 10 years ago we were away for a few days before Easter, thought I would be OK to buy the eggs on the Thursday but all of our local shops were sold out. I have never risked it since and buy them weeks beforehand now. Newsagents might might still have some stuff though.

Floralnomad · 06/04/2023 16:14

Our local Tesco still has eggs of all sizes but they made the display smaller on Monday this week and put all the gardening stuff back out in its place , which probably makes sense as lots of people garden on Easter weekend . According to our son Sainsbury had eggs on offer last night as he phoned to ask which we wanted him to get as he’s coming for a visit tomorrow .

Beaverbridge · 06/04/2023 16:15

Partner works in Sainsbury, they've been putting then out non stop round all the shifts. Still putting them out. He said they've got pallets full of them.

Bakinhappy · 06/04/2023 16:17

I'm another that was looking for mini eggs and couldnt find any. They were for topping a cheesecake but I found easter toppings in lidl to try instead.
Bought easter eggs 2 weeks ago because I knew theyd be sold out by this week.

SleepingisanArt · 06/04/2023 16:22

Our morrisons today had plenty of Easter eggs ranging from small £1 up to luxury £15. Sold out of bags of mini eggs (did have small, medium and large sized mini egg easter eggs) but had smartie, milky bar, Terry's orange, Lindor and after 8 mini eggs.

LlynTegid · 06/04/2023 16:27

Shops cannot afford to have leftover stock, some may have underestimated how many people would buy Easter eggs and other Easter items. So I would not expect it right up to now, nor Saturday.

beguilingeyes · 06/04/2023 16:28

And everyone seems to have cut back on their own Easter eggs this year too. M&S used to be reliable for lovely eggs. Last year wasn't great and this year is terrible. There aren't even any Bubbly Bunnies!
Thank goodness for Lindt.

BeforetheFlood · 06/04/2023 16:31

I reckon they want to condition us to start buying them in February because they know we'll most likely have scoffed them by April and have to rebuy. Double sales.

YANBU though. It's mad that mini eggs are as rare as Faberge ones. Im thinking of putting the bag I've scored on FB marketplace for £50.

DisappearingGirl · 06/04/2023 16:35

I always find this with clothes. I was in a big clothes shop in February looking for a thick cardie. I couldn't see any so I asked the assistant and she said they didn't have any as they "only really had summer things in now". I said but it is 5 degrees outside!!

bengalcat · 06/04/2023 16:36

Waitrose had few ‘overpriced’ eggs left today so just bought the adult kid a box of reduced Lindor chocolates and a Lindt bunny

WolfFoxHare · 06/04/2023 16:46

There’s a happy medium between going the day before the Easter long weekend starts and buying in February though. The shops were heaving with eggs only 1-2 weeks ago. You just have to be a tiny bit more organised, you don’t have to buy them months before.
