... to expect to be able to find Easter stuff in the shops today?

Just been on a fruitless search for some very basic Easter things today - small choc eggs, for example. No Easter goods at all to be found in three different supermarkets. Morrisons had a pile of large eggs in the middle of the fruit and veg section that looked like they were on their way outside and which you had to remove the shrink wrap from.
Thank goodness for Aldi's- still got an Easter display.
IANBU, am I?? There are three days until Easter Day. I realise that no shop wants a load of eggs left over on Monday ... but my customer satisfaction level is now below zero! It's the same at Christmas... go to the shops on, say, December 22nd and they'll already be binning the Christmas stuff. Are we all meant to get everything a month in advance??

YABU

Easter eggs have been in the shops for 3 months. Easter eggs always sell out before Easter so there is plenty of time to plan. Shops stop getting deliveries of chocolate eggs, or they would have loads to sell come Monday.

WowIlikereallyhateyou · 06/04/2023 16:54

Agree its ridiculous, but it seems to be the same every year. Apart from choc eggs, there was tonnes of easter stuff in M&S food today.

kitnkaboodle · 06/04/2023 16:57

Not just me, then!

Btw I DO know that mini eggs are always really scarce, so I DID buy them a few weeks back (yum!).

Just looking for a few small foil-wrapped eggs to give out at church on Sunday ... didn't seem a lot to want! I will get baking some Easter biscuits instead 😇. What could go wrong?

There was a whole fully stocked aisle decidated to Easter in the Tesco near me. Will be returning on Tuesday for the bargains. They had Easter eggs at a quarter of the price after easter last year.

I've just eaten a Creme Egg and it tasted of nothing. Sad

Gutting isn't it.. a waste of calories. I used to be able to smell them through the foil and it was a beautiful thing 😭

NeverTrustAPoliceman · 06/04/2023 17:20

Loads in my local Waitrose this morning. I didn't really look closely as I don't buy Easter stuff but I'd guess you could have got whatever you needed. They were handing out free Easter coloring sheets to children too.

It will be stuff for the coronation next no doubt, vast amounts of union jack tat and suchlike.

I wanted to buy some hot cross buns on the way home, which you can't buy in advance. Fairly big Tesco's near Liverpool Street station had none. Must be the only day of the year that you can't buy HCBs.

Xmasbaby11 · 06/04/2023 17:28

Sainsburys shelves were crammed this morning - great selection of chocolate and other treats. I wish I’d left it to today as I bought mine from somewhere else a couple of weeks ago!

SparkyBlue · 06/04/2023 17:29

Our tesco has all Easter confectionery completely gone. There isn't even an empty shelf there are other special offers now where the eggs were. They do have a massive amount of fresh flowers in stock and it's all about the Easter weekend dinner now

purpleme12 · 06/04/2023 17:32

@kitnkaboodle I couldn't agree with you more about this

LadyOfTheCanyon · 06/04/2023 17:44

I dunno, I work in retail. It's a dog eat dog world out there and the thinking is why on Earth should we facilitate you having the luxury of choice right up to the last minute and be left with excess stock. Excess stock means next year your prices might well be higher.

You don't need to be hyper organised, just have done this a week or so ago.

The stuff that Easter is all about is still going ahead I'm guessing? Like the church services and all that. Christ will continue to rise from the dead I expect, even if you haven't got a Home bargains plastic wreath on the front door.

GhostBridezilla · 06/04/2023 18:24

It’s the same every year. Buy early. It’s really frustrating but you have to buy early or you miss out.

ProfYaffle · 06/04/2023 18:27

I went to Poundstretcher today, no Easter stuff left but loads of candy canes in stock!

Eventually found a few small chocolate eggs (for decorating a cake) in the 2nd branch of Poundland I tried.

Forever42 · 06/04/2023 18:37

After being caught out this way a few years ago, I always now buy in advance. It's very annoying. They also probably miss out on revenue, especially from "twitching" parents who have a last minute panic they haven't bought enough!

Rowthe · 06/04/2023 18:45

Just went to Asda.

There were plenty of easter eggs.

Not as much choice as a week ago but plenty available.

PolkaDotMankini · 06/04/2023 18:48

YANBU. On Monday I visited 5 supermarkets in 2 different towns before I found the mini Lindt eggs I needed. I found them in a Tesco express in the end but noticed yesterday that they were completely out of all Easter eggs.

I sort-of realised this was going to happen though. I have shadowy memories of eating the DC's Easter eggs one year, thinking they'd be easy to replace... Blush

But you don’t actually need to buy early, unless a week before Easter counts as early! Or I suppose if you want a very specific egg that might go out of stock. It’s not really a huge ask to be organised enough to buy Easter eggs a week before Easter.

ivegotthisyeah · 06/04/2023 18:55

Not shortage here! 🤩

2chocolateoranges · 06/04/2023 18:57

Yesterday Lidl near me had loads of eggs and Easter rabbit chocolates and the same with the Tesco near me too, I was surprised to see so much eggs, they are normally Long gone by now

SwimmingAgainstTheTides · 06/04/2023 19:12

When we are putting Easter eggs out on shelves one week after Xmas we get a lot of customers tutting and saying how ridiculous etc etc, and we always roll out eyes and laugh because it's the same old story every single year.

Riapia · 06/04/2023 19:23

There’s been over 8 weeks to get the Easter eggs. No excuses.

Dilemma19 · 06/04/2023 19:31

Waitrose near me has loads of stuff till just now.

Mademetoxic · 06/04/2023 19:32

Nobody has mentioned M&S. They have loads in my local one.

DancingintheSpoonlight · 06/04/2023 19:37
