... to expect to be able to find Easter stuff in the shops today?

Just been on a fruitless search for some very basic Easter things today - small choc eggs, for example. No Easter goods at all to be found in three different supermarkets. Morrisons had a pile of large eggs in the middle of the fruit and veg section that looked like they were on their way outside and which you had to remove the shrink wrap from.
Thank goodness for Aldi's- still got an Easter display.
IANBU, am I?? There are three days until Easter Day. I realise that no shop wants a load of eggs left over on Monday ... but my customer satisfaction level is now below zero! It's the same at Christmas... go to the shops on, say, December 22nd and they'll already be binning the Christmas stuff. Are we all meant to get everything a month in advance??

The implication being that shops should overstock so there is a big choice of Easter stuff up to closing time on Saturday? Then the rest has to be sold off the week after?

This entitled, wasteful, consumer focus of the west is likely to come under pressure over the coming years. About time, in my view.

We have abundance and wealth and we squandered/are squandering it on buying stuff that's piled high in shops then chucking it in landfill the week after. Like people who buy new Christmas decorations every year. Halloween outfits that also go in the bin the day after. Waste and entitlement.

It’s the same with advent calendars if you want a decent brand and Xmas chocs etc. I don’t think it’s a bad idea as they’ve obviously reduced how much they make which is better for the environment. All sold at full price before the event rather than reduced down to clear after the event. Reducing means they had too much stock. I’ve had to re adjust my shopping habits and be more prepared in advance as I am a bit of a last minute shopper. But managed to get what I needed and spread the cost over the last few week. Was in sainsburys this afternoon though and there were still some decent eggs to be bought and some of the lesser popular ones as well as bunny ears and baskets and soft toys etc.

Marcinon · 08/04/2023 15:33

Just like Christmas! Once again I’ve missed out. On the positive side, it’s given me extra exercise searching one shop after another, saved me calories and money. No one in our household is upset to be told, not one to be had anywhere, so that’s great too.

memoriesofamiga · 08/04/2023 15:56

If they're clearing away easter eggs early before the actual day itself...where are all these 'surplus' eggs going exactly?

TokyoSushi · 08/04/2023 16:05

Honestly on about Thursday there were literally hundreds and hundreds of eggs in all of the supermarkets around here, I noticed because I though it unusual as I've been in the position of buying late and not being about to get what I needed.

Today I've been in 2 supermarkets and M&S for various reasons and it's like it isn't Easter at all, absolutely no eggs anywhere!

blobby10 · 08/04/2023 16:13

My local sainsburys had sold out of eggs by Wednesday- and no hot cross buns either 😡there didn’t seem to be much of a choice anyway this year even two weeks ago! Lots of Lindt Easter eggs for some reason

SlipperyLizard · 06/04/2023 14:29

My local asda was clearing the Easter stock away this morning - still got a few eggs, but not much choice. Annoying as I’d seen a recipe for an Easter cheesecake I wanted to make & now can’t get mini eggs for the top!

I made my Easter cheesecake just before, it's a no bake one. I've added a photo with all the stuff i've used in it. It's setting in the fridge but all my children are already eyeing it up 😋 We LOVE a cheesecake!
Have you got anything else you can use for the top? I had a hard job getting all the stuff for ours this year as I left it later than normal.

... to expect to be able to find Easter stuff in the shops today?
Pinkfluffyunicornsandrainbows · 08/04/2023 16:49

Ooh they look delicious! I'm doing this next week, can't beat Easter egg cheesecakes.

Pinkfluffyunicornsandrainbows · 08/04/2023 16:49

That was meant for @ivegotthisyeah

WimbyAce · 08/04/2023 16:54

I bought a few bags of mini eggs to make sure I have some to make easter nests. I remember last year I couldn't find any but then did in the co-op, always worth a try!

Dyslexicwonder · 08/04/2023 16:55

Was in Morrisons and M&S this am. Got a percy pig egg hunt kit and a Colin egg, they also had Lindt stuff and a kinder egg thing. I was happy enough with that.

Hope this helps someone,Lidl had tons of Easter eggs in today and I'd left it this late because I'd completely lost track( that's a bloody understatement)of the days because I thought Easter was next week😬.

Tons of they're Easter Eggs were on buy 1 get 1 free (we managed to get nearly £11 off with that offer)and they had Big eggs, small eggs, bags of mini eggs, little cellophane bags with chocolate bunnies and eggs in,Easter mallow lollies and they had Reeces Pieces selection bags with little chocolate bars and peanut cups in.

Yes our Lidl still had a lot of stock. Morrisons today was very limited.

Buildingthefuture · 08/04/2023 17:06

YANBU. I wanted some of those little Cadburys Easter cakes. The ones with the mini eggs? I went to THREE different supermarkets…apparently they “haven’t had them in this year” They all had a really crap, less than half an aisle, selection of Easter eggs too. First world problems I know, but I have those cakes every Easter and I’m cross! I bought some Thorntons cakes instead and they were shit 🤬🤬🤬

We were in Sainsburys yesterday and they had loads of Easter stuff (and were still putting it on the shelves) loads of people were coming in and saying that they'd been to Tesco round the corner and they had nothing

SlipperyLizard · 08/04/2023 18:03

@Pinkfluffyunicornsandrainbows we've come away for the weekend & the local spar had plenty of mini eggs so I’m sorted, although I panic bought lots of alternatives so it will be well loaded!

ssd · 08/04/2023 18:14

John lewis here has loads of easter things

IrregularChoiceFan · 08/04/2023 18:19

YABU, they need to start getting ready for Christmas.

Our Sainsburys today had taken all their eggs off (unless they've sold out) and were putting out the summer and garden stuff. Easter cards all gone too and hot cross buns!

Yet the last few years they were selling eggs at half price or less the day after Easter

I've not been able to get mini eggs for weeks now

Ponderingwindow · 08/04/2023 18:28

We used to be able to go and buy the leftovers at a discount the day after. Now they don’t want any leftovers.

a couple of years ago, in our area the Halloween buckets ended up containing a smattering of Christmas candy because that was what was available to buy for anyone who left it until the day before Halloween to buy treats to hand out. Now all the parents know to buy early.

PolkaDotMankini · 08/04/2023 20:35

I found them! Tesco Extra in Glasgow has the lot. This is the dedicated display but they're all over the shop. There's an entire bin of Mini Eggs.

RedToothBrush · 08/04/2023 20:39

Have noticed this for several years. Always buy early now.

VanillaImpulse · 09/04/2023 00:33

Yeah it's rubbish.
It's like all the swimwear and holiday clothes are in the shops now but I can't even think about buying stuff like that when I still have weight to lose and it's pissing down with rain constantly

WimbyAce · 10/04/2023 12:29

Can confirm that Co op still have mini eggs. None in our morrisons or Lidl now.
