If you were having a sandwich/sandwiches…

For lunch, how many would you have/how many pieces of bread?
I came home at lunch from work today, I’d had no breakfast as rushing in the morning, so was hungry and had what I’d call two sandwiches, four slices of wholemeal, cereal type bread with tuna salad on. My mum was over and was saying how a sandwich at lunch was to her just two pieces of bread and a filling.
Mum is v slim, naturally but also doesn’t eat/want to eat much. I admittedly do need to lose a bit of weight, but I was hungry and aside from an apple afterwards, I don’t then eat until dinner.
Is this excessive/not that normal?
How many would you have for your lunch?

Two pieces of bread, plus filling.

MyBloodyMaryneedsmoreTabasco · 21/03/2023 22:24

Two slices of bread with a filling.

Soooootired77 · 21/03/2023 22:24

@IamSmarticus Just that? No fruit, yoghurt etc and if you’d not eaten until 1pm?

I'd have 2 slices for my lunch if i was having a sandwich, but if id had no breakfast, I might have 4 slices.

I do usually always have breakfast (usually porridge and berries) though so wouldn't normally be in a situation when I needed to "eat twice" at lunch.

Custardbanana · 21/03/2023 22:24

1 sandwich. 2 slices of bread and a filling.

Passthecake30 · 21/03/2023 22:25

Two slices of bread and filling, washed down with crisps, fruit, chocolate…

or a 1/3 of a French stick, which would fill me up more.

Soooootired77 · 21/03/2023 22:25

@MyBloodyMaryneedsmoreTabasco But would you have nothing else? Especially if you’d had no breakfast and wouldn’t then eat until dinner?

I might have a packet of crisps as well, but you only asked about the sandwich 😉

Dunnoburt · 21/03/2023 22:25

Meh I'm with you. yanbu x

Albiboba · 21/03/2023 22:26

A normal sandwich is two slices of bread. Surely you’ve seen the 1000’s of sandwiches on the market in pret/Tesco/boots etc to be aware of that.

Clevs · 21/03/2023 22:26

Two slices of bread plus a filling. Usually a packet of crisps as well.

Nc252525673 · 21/03/2023 22:26

Two slices of bread with a filling. Usually have some carrot & cucumber sticks on the side and a packet of crisps.

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 21/03/2023 22:26

I'm a big fat fatty but my sandwiches are two slices of bread, one filling, plus some crisps on the side.

MasterBeth · 21/03/2023 22:26

You said it yourself: you were hungry.

Eat when you are hungry. Perfectly reasonable.

EyesOnThePies · 21/03/2023 22:27

2 slices of bread plus filling.
Plus apple or salad.

Probably wouldn’t eat extra due to no breakfast.

ShirleyPhallus · 21/03/2023 22:27

What is cereal bread?!

Soooootired77 · 21/03/2023 22:28

My downfall is bread 😫I need to cut back, it’s just so simple and quick to make a sandwich…I don’t have the crisps & choc with it though…wish I could 😁

Two slices for me usually, but I wouldn't say four slices when hungry is outlandish, disordered eating!

Fairislefandango · 21/03/2023 22:28

I'd normally only have one sandwich (i.e. 2 pieces of bread), but I would a) never skip breakfast and b) always have other stuff as well as a sandwich. In your situation I would have been ravenous and could easily have eaten 2 sandwiches!

Grumpsy · 21/03/2023 22:28

2 slices of bread and filling. And I need to loose weight. I often don’t breakfast

MichaelAndEagle · 21/03/2023 22:28

2 slices of bread, but crisps and fruit or yoghurt as well.

Pretty much as you'd find in your average high street meal deal!

OoooohMatron · 21/03/2023 22:28

I'd have 2 slices plus filling with a tin of soup. I don't eat much for breakfast though, maybe a cereal bar.

No, that's two sandwiches.

The original poster ate four sandwiches. It's still fine.

Cherrysoup · 21/03/2023 22:29

Probably 4, but split into 2x2 over the afternoon.

SocksAndTheCity · 21/03/2023 22:29

If I hadn't had breakfast it would be three slices of bread or two small rolls. Three slices means you can have two complimentary fillings and not worry about it falling to pieces.

Also some crisps or pretzels, carrot/cucumber sticks and some fruit and maybe a chocolate mousse or something Two mugs of tea.
