For lunch, how many would you have/how many pieces of bread?
I came home at lunch from work today, I’d had no breakfast as rushing in the morning, so was hungry and had what I’d call two sandwiches, four slices of wholemeal, cereal type bread with tuna salad on. My mum was over and was saying how a sandwich at lunch was to her just two pieces of bread and a filling.
Mum is v slim, naturally but also doesn’t eat/want to eat much. I admittedly do need to lose a bit of weight, but I was hungry and aside from an apple afterwards, I don’t then eat until dinner.
Is this excessive/not that normal?
How many would you have for your lunch?

I do have a big appetite but even I couldn't eat 2 sandwiches in one sitting! I'd have a sandwich and then crisps or a biscuit or something.

ThinWomansBrain · 21/03/2023 22:43

two slices of bread + filling

but last week we had catered sandwiches in the office (Hysterically an event about food waste over ordered to the extent that there were 3-4 trays of them left over)
In the interest of minimising food waste, I probably had more that 4 quarters😆

Eranzer · 21/03/2023 22:43

2 sandwiches, to me, is 4 slices. And yeah, I'd have 4 slices.

MolkosTeenageAngst · 21/03/2023 22:45

A normal sandwich portion is 2 slices of bread with a filling and probably fruit and/ or a snack on the side but it’s not unreasonable to have two sandwiches if you’re very hungry. It sounds like you were very hungry and skipped breakfast so you ate an extra sandwich portion which is fine but that doesn’t mean it’s the usual portion for most people, most people would have eaten breakfast and would also likely eat something else like crisps or fruit alongside a sandwich so wouldn’t need 2.

JennyDarlingRIP · 21/03/2023 22:45

Two slices of bread with filling , if hungrier I'd have yogurt/fruit sometimes a bag of crisps. I've got quite a big appetite and if I'm not careful gain weight, but even at my heaviest (I've lost 4 stone in the last year so trust me I've been actually heavy, not just MN I ate a massive salad heavy), I wouldn't have had two full size sandwiches in one sitting

Pinacalola · 21/03/2023 22:46

2 slices of bread and filling, I try and have a fruit or vegetable on the side as well, and sometimes have a protein bar or yoghurt if I'm especially hungry and need the protein boost

TiredandHungry19 · 21/03/2023 22:46

I think its very clear by now that 'a sandwich' is two slices of bread with filling, so what you're really asking is whether it's unconventional to eat two sandwiches for lunch. I would say yes, that isnt the norm, but having two sandwiches with brown bread and tuna salad sounds healthier than having one sandwich and a packet of crisps so I don't think it's a big deal tbh.

Candleabra · 21/03/2023 22:49

I would eat two sandwiches (4 slices of bread) if I was hungry. Why not? It’s food, eat what you want. (I wouldn’t eat that every day though, as it would get boring. )

Lemonandorange · 21/03/2023 22:51

Everyone on this thread is either very good at self discipline or full of shit.

My lunch usually consists of some sort of pasta dish or stir fry, a sandwich or two, crackers or something sweet and in full transparency I'd probably then munch on some chicken bites or cherry tomatoes. I would then eat a normal dinner a few hours later.

Habreathmint · 21/03/2023 22:51

I think you were being greedy. You should've had a drink and an apple first to get rid of the hunger feeling. I've got a health appetite but 4 slices of bread sandwiches is piggy.

SunshineAndMonsteras · 21/03/2023 22:52

I compromise on 3. 1 sandwich with 2 slices and 1 open face sandwich. Or 3 open face ones😁 I don't do the usual uk sides of crisps and chocolate

Xrays · 21/03/2023 22:54

Two bits of bread and filling. But then there’s no way I wouldn’t have eaten till 1pm. I snack non stop. 😳🙈 By 1pm today I’d had 2 slices of toast for breakfast, half a family sized bar of milkybar and a latte, a scone and butter and then for lunch I had tomato soup and a small cheese roll. 😳😆

Bunce1 · 21/03/2023 22:55

2 slices of bread and filling is ample.

but…

I have fFor lunch
whole can of tuna with Greek yog, smashed avocado, handful of cherry toms, whole meal seeded wrap, cottage cheese and pesto. With chilli flakes and lemon juice. I’m full for the rest of day and have a pear or similar around 5pm

MakingTheVeganYorkshirePud · 21/03/2023 22:56

I think it is fine OP. I'm more confused that a PP thinks that 2 slices of bread, with filling, is 2 sandwiches. Even if you cut it into half (my dp doesn't), it is still 1 sandwich.

aureus3012 · 21/03/2023 22:56

I'm jealous of your 2 sandwiches. I'd easily have that along with a packet of crisps and a king size twix haha. I'm not eating bread at the mo so it's soup or salad mainly for me. If I was eating bread, I'd say 1 sandwich is the norm.

Ponoka7 · 21/03/2023 22:56

If I've skipped breakfast and I'm out, I'd buy a triple sandwich. What matters is how many calories you eat over a week. From things written on here there must be a lot of underweight posters, whose bones will be crumbling come menopause.

maddy68 · 21/03/2023 22:57

Two slices with filling.

That's all.

Really bizarre outlook that you think most people eating a sandwich and crisps for lunch is very self disciplined or lying.

It’s not at all common to eat pasta or a stir fry plus 2 sandwiches for lunch.

MysteryBelle · 21/03/2023 23:00

Two sandwiches are perfectly fine for lunch! Especially when you had no breakfast. Op had 2 sandwiches. One sandwich is comprised of two slices of bread with something between them. Fact. What are the food police talking about op having 4 sandwiches 😂

ETref · 21/03/2023 23:00

I couldn't eat more than one sandwich in one sitting. And I would only have crisps/biscuit etc if I was getting a meal deal, at home I'd just have a sandwich and then probably a snack later.

On mother's day I went out for lunch and polished off a large chicken breast with half a rack of ribs and chips, plus dessert. So it's not like I cant eat big portions. But bread just really fills me up for some reason so I can't eat a lot of it in one go.

Because you have a really big appetite it means everyone who doesn't is either 'very good at self discipline or full of shit'?

Seriously? You can't just think to yourself 'Most people on this thread like to eat less than me'?

ThuMuClu · 21/03/2023 23:05

Two sandwiches at lunchtime then dinner is not “greedy” or “piggy”. There are as many calories in a slice of bread as there are in one apple. Once you factor in people eating crisps etc in the side, it’s no different. a lot of people here are having a single sandwich for lunch then eating crisps and biscuits in the afternoon because that wasn’t enough. If you have 600 calories of sandwiches, and an 809 calorie dinner, you are still only on 1400 calories. Is someone who eats 1400 calories a day a greedy pig?! Honestly. And before anyone tries to come at me, no matter what MyFitnessPal says, adult women should not be aiming for 1200 calories.

'Greedy and piggy'?

'Should've had a drink and an apple first to get rid of the hunger feeling'?

Are you one of those people with a bad relationship with food or an ED that you project onto everyone else?

Why would she want to get rid of the hunger feeling at lunch time?

Weird.

Natty13 · 21/03/2023 23:05

A sandwich is 2 slices of bread with a filling to me, that's how you buy "a sandwich" from a shop isn't it. Sometimes I'll have half a sandwich as a snack at home i.e. 1 piece of bread.

I know this isn't the point of your post but you won't lose weight skipping meals. Women's bodies need constant fuel in a way men's don't.

If you're fat it's probably too much. That's not a judgement, that's Mother Nature's rules.

If you want to compare (remembering most people are over weight) I think most people would have two rounds of bread cut down the middle to make two smaller sandwiches. Maybe a yoghurt and a 'treat' too. You've chosen well to make 2 rounds of sandwiches instead of reaching for a packet of crisps or jaffa cakes. Ultimately though, refer to paragraph one.
