If you were having a sandwich/sandwiches…

For lunch, how many would you have/how many pieces of bread?
I came home at lunch from work today, I’d had no breakfast as rushing in the morning, so was hungry and had what I’d call two sandwiches, four slices of wholemeal, cereal type bread with tuna salad on. My mum was over and was saying how a sandwich at lunch was to her just two pieces of bread and a filling.
Mum is v slim, naturally but also doesn’t eat/want to eat much. I admittedly do need to lose a bit of weight, but I was hungry and aside from an apple afterwards, I don’t then eat until dinner.
Is this excessive/not that normal?
How many would you have for your lunch?

2 slices plus filling - and crisps/olives/pickles/maybe some cheese on the side. Then a flapjack plus a fruit pot thing/yoghurt. I would be bored with so much of the same sandwich!

No, that's two sandwiches.

The original poster ate four sandwiches. It's still fine.

Huh? It's still one sandwich, served in two halves. The OP ate two sandwiches, each in two halves.

Ponderingwindow · 21/03/2023 22:30

Two slices of bread and some filling.

I have on occasion been hungry enough to eat 2 sandwiches. Nothing wrong with that if you happen to need the extra food that day. I would rather eat more sandwich than a bunch of crisps anyway.

ComtesseDeSpair · 21/03/2023 22:31

If you were hungry, are a healthy weight, and aren’t calorie counting, it’s fine to eat enough to make you feel full.

If you’re overweight and have been wondering why / struggling to lose weight; well, your double portions of sandwiches are probably part of the reason why. It’s a big portion of calorie dense food.

SocksAndTheCity · 21/03/2023 22:31

I would also always have breakfast, so the above would be if I'd only had time for coffee and a banana or similar.

Soooootired77 · 21/03/2023 22:31

@Ponderingwindow Would that be better for you, do you think? I’m hoping it is 😬

Well as Smarticus said, I was only responding to the sandwich question...
If I'm hungry I'd eat more, but not more sandwiches, it would be crisps or fruit or a KitKat or cucumber sticks etc.

You’re in the tiny majority if you think a normal sandwich is made with one piece of bread.

Purpleberet · 21/03/2023 22:32

I wouldn’t usually eat more than 2 pieces of bread in a day, if any (unless I’m hungover!)
It’s not excessive if you didn’t have breakfast, it’s just a bit nutritionally poor - though not any more so than a sandwich and crisps. If you just have it occasionally I think its fine 🤷‍♀️

Soooootired77 · 21/03/2023 22:34

@ShirleyPhallus Bread with seeds in

Wrongsville, New Mexico.

Two slices of bread with fillings, even cut into two pieces, is one sandwich.

It depends on how you view better.
You can still over eat on healthier food. So even if you had a super healthy avocado salad sandwich it would still be significantly higher in calories to have 2 full sandwiches (4 slices of bread) than to have one and a yoghurt or standard bag of crisps.

Tinytigertail · 21/03/2023 22:34

I don't usually eat breakfast. Lunch for me would be something like a sandwich (2 slices of bread) and an apple.

No. Its one sandwich cut in half.

ItsSuchACryingShame · 21/03/2023 22:35

2 slices of bread.
Regardless of missing breakfast and being hungry, my stomach would feel full after it’s normal amount of food, it wouldn’t need double it’s normal amount to make up for missing breakfast iyswim.

SalviaDivinorum · 21/03/2023 22:35

Two slices of bread with a filling.

QuickNameChangeForMeToday · 21/03/2023 22:35

I didn’t have breakfast this morning, I had a Turkey salad sandwich (2 slices rye bread, 2 slices Turkey, lettuce, tomato and cucumber) with a few strawberries and a handful of crisps (split a bag with DH).

I had coffee and cake late afternoon then normal dinner.

I do usually have breakfast but some days life takes over.

This is what I was trying to say.

AngelicInnocent · 21/03/2023 22:36

2 slices of bread with a lot of filling. Chicken and salad for example. Then yoghurt or something similar

coffeecupsandwaxmelts · 21/03/2023 22:38

Two slices of bread with filling.

I'd have a bag of crisps and two satsumas or an apple as well.

MrsDoylesDoily · 21/03/2023 22:38

I don't eat breakfast.

My lunch sandwich is 2 pieces of bread with a filling and sometimes a bag of crisps.

I don't really snack and dinner is at 6pm.

But we're all different OP so there's no point in comparing yourself to others.

Spangasspikeywig · 21/03/2023 22:38

2 slices of bread and pk of crisps.

Lemonandorange · 21/03/2023 22:39

Four slices, sometimes six but then I have no self control

TomatoSandwiches · 21/03/2023 22:40

Two slices of bread with a filling, I don't think I could manage more sandwiches than that unless I was at a buffet and they had finger sandwiches 😋

I'd probably have a piece if fruit or cheese ( if the sandwich wasn't cheese ) maybe a yogurt if I was in the mood.

Findyourneutralspace · 21/03/2023 22:41

Two slices of bread and a filling, with a packet of crisps on the side. I’m chubby too, and could do to drop the crisps.
