To not wash kids' PJ's after every wear?

Talking to a friend just now and was told that I am 'minging' for making the 9 year old wear his pajamas 2 or 3 nights before washing.

I mean, if it was sweltering heat, then that's different. He has a bath every night before bed as well.

Surely IANBU?!

Nope, definitely not! They are literally being worn to lie in. I’m a massively clean person and unless my sons managed to spill some breakfast down him he’ll be wearing them for the next evening. But hey, maybe I’m minging too 🤷🏻‍♀️x

TempName247 · 20/03/2023 19:25

socks and undies get washed after every wear, everything else can be worn multiple times until they smell or are visibly grubby

Temporaryname158 · 20/03/2023 19:26

Massive environmental waste to wash after every wear when they have bathed before putting them on, madness in my book!

DelurkingAJ · 20/03/2023 19:26

Bath or shower every night here and don’t come downstairs in them. Change every three or four days. If they are in their PJs they’d likely need fresh every day!

DelurkingAJ · 20/03/2023 19:27

ate in their PJs even…

HappyAsASandboy · 20/03/2023 19:27

Only things that get washed after each wear here are pants and socks. Even a bra can go a few days between washes if it's not hot and sweaty!

Dacadactyl · 20/03/2023 19:28

WTAF?! Who has time to wash pj's after every wear?

My kids wear their pj's for about a week and only have a shower about 3 times a week.

Your friend has far too much time on her hands!

londonrach · 20/03/2023 19:29

I feel sorry for the earth if everyone like your friend was so selfish...most normal parents without OCD would replace PJ's every 3-4 days unless child has an accident

CakeCrumbs44 · 20/03/2023 19:29

Nah pyjamas don't get dirty, they can definitely be worn 2 or 3 times before washing.

Sortyourlifeout · 20/03/2023 19:30

I daren't tell her I only wash his bedding every 2 weeks!

This.

Jeez, no wonder the world is f**d!

JMSA · 20/03/2023 19:32

I wouldn't be able to wear pyjamas for more than one night, but only because I'm not 'dry' enough down below Blush
My kids, hell yeah!

LiquoriceAllsorts2 · 20/03/2023 19:33

Your friends is the selfish one washing them every day, completely unnecessary. My sons only get washed daily when he wets them/gets food on them otherwise we go 3-4 days.

Try telling my kids that Grin

If they manage not to spill their breakfast down them, or the toddler doesn't sneak out into the garden when we let the dog out (!) they are re-worn.

MooseAndSquirrelLoveFlannel · 20/03/2023 19:35

I have to peel my 10yo out of her dragon onesie before it's been worn so much it could walk around on its own 🤣

2-3 sets of PJs a week are plenty.

DorisParchment · 20/03/2023 19:36

@JMSA Don’t you wear pants with your pyjamas?

MavisMcMinty · 20/03/2023 19:37

This is probably the first 100% YANBU I’ve ever seen on MN!

SleepyRich · 20/03/2023 19:37

Actually laughed at the thought of that, ours get 2 sets of pjs a week if they're lucky. Bedding changed 2-3 week intervals.

Pants and socks are the only things changed daily. I still feel like we're always doing washing!!

Smartiepants79 · 20/03/2023 19:38

Unless your kids work down the mines then really don’t understand this. Kids of his age don’t really smell yet espy if they’re being bathed regularly.
I wear my own jammies for several days. I don’t smell, they don’t get ‘dirty’ I really don’t get the excess washing thing. I use my towels more than once too! 😱

firsttimemum1230 · 20/03/2023 19:38

I change my 15 month old every night but as she gets older I probably won’t and I certainly Don’t judge anyone that doesn’t change them I don’t I wear mine for 3/4 nights at the most. Don’t feel bad if it’s what your happy and comfortable to do sod everyone else you don’t smell so don’t worry!

evtheria · 20/03/2023 19:38

DS wears his about 3x before I wash them - though he does also wear underwear (know some people don't), and he takes his shower in the evenings. He does have some fleece ones that can get sweaty, those might get washed sooner if I think they're a bit whiffy. Or smell like farts.

youhavenoshameonyourface · 20/03/2023 19:41

My boy won't wear PJ's - just his birthday suit and pants - I can't wash all the bedding every 2/3 days!

soffa · 20/03/2023 19:41

who has the time & so bad for the environment, is the climate crisis really still not getting through?!

Give it time. The clean freaks are just making the kids beds that they stripped this morning Wink
