To not wash kids' PJ's after every wear?

Talking to a friend just now and was told that I am 'minging' for making the 9 year old wear his pajamas 2 or 3 nights before washing.

I mean, if it was sweltering heat, then that's different. He has a bath every night before bed as well.

Surely IANBU?!

YANBU.

Why on earth does she feel the need to wash them that often..

ChickenBurgers · 20/03/2023 20:11

I don’t with my 7yo, he gets a few wears out of them before washing. I do with my 2yo and 1yo though as they eat breakfast in their pjs and often end up with half of it down them (hence why they eat in their pjs rather than having to dress them twice 😁)

Anyone who washed kids pyjamas after a single wear either has too much time on their hands and/or is bordering on mentally unwell.

I don't wash my boys clothes after every wear as he has loads of pjs but he has a fresh set of pjs to wear everyday his 2... So do i fit in that criteria of u assuming i have a lot of time on my hands lol

minidancer · 20/03/2023 20:15

I wash bottoms every day as mine don't have pants on with them. Only once they were a bit older though

No kids now, but it was when they were actually dirty as youngsters, bedding once a week well, mostly clean pants, socks, and school shirts daily.
As a 70s child my DGM washed on a Mon, clothes were worn until dirty, including undies. Skirts, jumpers, and trousers were spot cleaned until too grubby then washed. Wash day included dragging in the washer( mangle mounted on top!) from the shed and the spinner. The washer was physically filled with hot water shrank everything, colour ran regularly
It was much harder work, so she had less inclination to get it out more than once a week. She was amazed when we got her an automatic, but in later years, she would try turning it off. She wasn't impressed at long wash cycles, waste of water, and electricity!

We had a twin tub when I was young , I remember us getting our 1st automatic and my mum saying the same as yours , it took forever yo get the washing done , used too much water snd you couldn't bung the stray sock that got dropped between the bedroom and kitchen in the automatic part way through the wash .
For years she said there should be a trapdoor in the top where you could fling in the errant sock . Lo and behold many years later some bright spark invented a trap door in the door just that purpose! Sadly she never lived to see it.

@Sortyourlifeout get your DCs to sleep in the buff , problem solved !

Dear Lord, who are these ridiculous people who want to spend their whole lives doing laundry?! Not to mention the waste of water & electricity, damage to the environment etc. Multiple wears is completely normal - pretty much until the PJs can stand up on their own 😂

icanneverthinkofnc · 20/03/2023 20:22

It looked rather like this..

That brought back memories of my childhood too. Washing was bloody hard work, so we wore clothes until they actually looked dirty!

And we didn't bath or shower every day, either! Most people didn't have a hot water system that could cope with a bath every day for everyone in the family.

Cocobutt · 20/03/2023 20:38

Some people have too much time on their hands and feel they need to fill it.

I bet she’s the first to moan that she has endless piles of washing too.

MajorCarolDanvers · 20/03/2023 20:39

We won't save the planet washing pjs everyday

Sunday night bathtime, after tea, board games, then bath and allowed to watch early evening TV.

Odile13 · 20/03/2023 20:43

There is no way I would waste my time / energy / water washing PJs after every use. I see no point whatsoever.

GordonShakespearedoesChristmas · 20/03/2023 20:44

Tell them they are damaging the environment with their ridiculousness. Recoil in horror as you do it!
Seriously, no way do they need clean every night!

I remember this being discussed a year or two ago and there was a poster with about 7 children who insisted that PJs had to be changed every day.

When they went on a week's holiday, she took 49 sets of pyjamas for the kids.

I still think about this now and again and will never understand it.

She must have been joking, that is actually mad!

bluebird3 · 20/03/2023 20:45

I think it's gross to re-wear pjs if no pants are worn. Essentially the pjs are the pants at that point and are worn for 10-12 hours/night.

If pants are worn - sure they can be reworn.

eatdrinkandbemerry · 20/03/2023 20:45

I wash everything after one wear except coats but I do know i have a bit of a problem.

I honestly have no idea what you’re trying to say here? You don’t wash them after every wear but he does wear a fresh pair everyday?

gogohmm · 20/03/2023 20:47

Was about time for a washing thread!

Mine got done every 3-4 days once they got past the messy eating stage. Bedding every 2 weeks ish, sometimes 3 in winter, more frequent if hot. I'm not keen on the old housework!

Aside from anything this is literally just destroying your clothes.

I was going to ask the same! I read it a few times but still can't understand

BrendaWearingBaffies · 20/03/2023 20:51

They get washed after three nights, same as my own.

PicturesOfLily · 20/03/2023 20:56

2-3 nights is absolutely fine! Bedding every 2 weeks or so unless dirty before. I don’t think we smell!!

I'm assuming that poster means she has multiple pairs for her DC and washes them yes frequently than daily :) e.g. 4 pairs of Pjs washed twice a week

CandlelightGlow · 20/03/2023 21:00

Less* not yes!

Anotherturnipforthebooks · 20/03/2023 21:02

@evtheria

I think it was genuine!
