To not wash kids' PJ's after every wear?

Talking to a friend just now and was told that I am 'minging' for making the 9 year old wear his pajamas 2 or 3 nights before washing.

I mean, if it was sweltering heat, then that's different. He has a bath every night before bed as well.

Surely IANBU?!

Give it time. The clean freaks are just making the kids beds that they stripped this morning Wink

Just spat my coffee all down my pj's.

Now I have to wash them!

Washing children's pyjamas every day is a ridiculous idea.

Rainbowqueeen · 20/03/2023 19:53

She knows there’s an environmental crisis doesn’t she??

MavisMcMinty · 20/03/2023 19:54

Aw, a couple of people have spoilt the perfect ratio.

GoodChat · 20/03/2023 19:54

Shove them on the radiator @Sortyourlifeout - they'll be good for another week

Only a maniac would actually do this. We used to wear our pyjamas for a week at a time as a child, so did everyone else, we weren’t going to bed dirty at any time. It’s nonsense

Omg- you joke but when I was a student ( coin operated washing machine) I used to wear my sports gear for a week ( trained every day) and would hang over the radiator to just dry it off. By the end of the week it would literally be stiff with sweat. I was such a minger.

TheChosenTwo · 20/03/2023 19:57

When mine were younger they wore a fresh pair every other night. I don’t know why I thought 2 nights was the optimum wear time but that’s what we did.

User339406 · 20/03/2023 19:57

Ds10 doesn't wear underwear with his so I do tend to wash the bottoms after every wear. Sorry. But I don't wash the tops.

GoodChat · 20/03/2023 19:58

@illiterato you're allowed to be a minger when you're a student. Goes with the territory Grin

Anotherturnipforthebooks · 20/03/2023 19:58

I remember this being discussed a year or two ago and there was a poster with about 7 children who insisted that PJs had to be changed every day.

When they went on a week's holiday, she took 49 sets of pyjamas for the kids.

I still think about this now and again and will never understand it.

Onemyownhere · 20/03/2023 19:59

My son baths/showers everyday so he will wear fresh clean of pj's everyday.. Imo why bath/shower everyday if u are going to wear the same thing u slept in all night.. My son is 2,however i don't see a problem if anyone else choses to wear the same pj's for 3 times in a row.

MavisMcMinty · 20/03/2023 20:00

I’m sure I read somewhere that turning sweaty clothes inside out and hanging them up to dry is supposed to be as effective as washing them.

AlltheFs · 20/03/2023 20:00

DD (3) usually gets 2 nights usual out of hers and I plan to gradually extend it as she gets older. She’s not reliably dry at night yet so it all depends on that, I sniff test basically!

By 9 I’d imagine 3 nights easily unless visibly dirty. I get 3-4 out of my own.

Ichosetheredpill · 20/03/2023 20:02

Why would you wash pj’s every day? It’s not like they go outside or get sweaty (unless it’s super hot). DC’s (5 and 1) have clean pj’s every 2-3 days after a bath.

JMSA · 20/03/2023 20:02

DorisParchment · 20/03/2023 19:36

@JMSA Don’t you wear pants with your pyjamas?

Yes, but my bottoms still don't seem fresh after one night.

LindorDoubleChoc · 20/03/2023 20:03

Yanbu. Washing 7 pairs of pjs every week for each child? fuck that for a game of soldiers.

IAmTheWalrus85 · 20/03/2023 20:03

YANBU at all. I’ve got to admit mine tend to get fresh ones every night but the only reason for that is that they’re a lot younger than yours and more often than not they manage to get breakfast (or some other muck) on them.

I change my own PJs twice a week.

icanneverthinkofnc · 20/03/2023 20:03

No kids now, but it was when they were actually dirty as youngsters, bedding once a week well, mostly clean pants, socks, and school shirts daily.
As a 70s child my DGM washed on a Mon, clothes were worn until dirty, including undies. Skirts, jumpers, and trousers were spot cleaned until too grubby then washed. Wash day included dragging in the washer( mangle mounted on top!) from the shed and the spinner. The washer was physically filled with hot water shrank everything, colour ran regularly
It was much harder work, so she had less inclination to get it out more than once a week. She was amazed when we got her an automatic, but in later years, she would try turning it off. She wasn't impressed at long wash cycles, waste of water, and electricity!

AbstractFlower · 20/03/2023 20:05

Oh dear another thing I've obviously been slovenly about. PJs washed weekly with the bedding here. DC are adults now, they seem to have got through unscathed.

Wishawisha · 20/03/2023 20:05

These are the people doing multiple loads of laundry every day. Today unnecessary.

MN people can be weird about laundry though. It’s “grim” to not wash your towels every time you so much as look at them etc. Throws on sofas washed several times a week etc!

You read that one on 'teenage boys weekly'

Albiboba · 20/03/2023 20:06

Anyone who washed kids pyjamas after a single wear either has too much time on their hands and/or is bordering on mentally unwell.

JamMakingWannaBe · 20/03/2023 20:08

One summer day I was hanging out a load of laundry when I realised 90% of it was the DC's PJs. They wear PJs for at least two nights in a row now.

That brought back memories of my childhood too. Washing was bloody hard work, so we wore clothes until they actually looked dirty!
