To not wash kids' PJ's after every wear?

Talking to a friend just now and was told that I am 'minging' for making the 9 year old wear his pajamas 2 or 3 nights before washing.

I mean, if it was sweltering heat, then that's different. He has a bath every night before bed as well.

Surely IANBU?!

I was going to ask the same! I read it a few times but still can't understand

I have multiple pjs for my lil one as most of his clothes were past to him by his older siblings who outgrew them..I don't wash them everyday even though i change my lil one Pj's everyday.

I'm assuming that poster means she has multiple pairs for her DC and washes them yes frequently than daily :) e.g. 4 pairs of Pjs washed twice a week

Thats what i meant 😊

escapingthecity · 20/03/2023 21:14

Mine wear their PJs until breakfast needs to be washed off them. For the 1yo that means usually 2, 3 if we're very lucky. The 4yo sometimes manages a week or more in his. Bedsheets changed every fortnight or so, unless they have an accident/are sick etc

Lcb123 · 20/03/2023 21:16

Totally normal - change once or twice week is fine in my opinion, adults to. No wonder people’s bills are so high with all that laundry!

GreenFingersWouldBeHandy · 20/03/2023 21:18

Ask her to stick his PJs in with her washing to save your energy bills. What a ridiculous waste of money.

katepilar · 20/03/2023 21:20

After ONE night? and for a child?
I think she should have some time living without a washing maschine and running water. I know too many British people wash their clothes way too ofter but raised my eyebrows.

Cumpanypicnic · 20/03/2023 21:20

Maybe her kids don’t wear underwear? If my kids or do or me didn’t wear underwear under their pyjamas I’d definately wash the every day

That's exactly what i do with my lil ones clothes.

Anotherturnipforthebooks · 20/03/2023 21:23

@Onemyownhere

You do what with their clothes? Ask a friend to wash them for you? I think that's what the poster was suggesting.

WimbyAce · 20/03/2023 21:25

My kids change theirs only once or twice a week and they only have 1 bath per week. Was talking to a Dr recently and he was actually encouraging less washing.

I don’t think anyone else means they have one pair of kids pyjamas and they wash it every day and reuse it though. They also just mean they use it once and wash it.

IceCreamWithSprinkles · 20/03/2023 21:29

Ours wear them for a week before washing them, and even if they have a few marks from breakfast on I’ve been known to just wipe it/live with it if it’s not too bad and keep wearing them! We all wear pants underneath though; I’ve always thought it’s weird not to.

So you do wash them after every wear. He wears them once and then you wash them before he wears them again.

At the end of the day it doesn't matter whether you wash them each day or save them up to wash at the end of the week. You're still washing 7 pairs of pyjamas a week which is 4-5 pairs more than most normal posters on this thread.

I know what the poster means she doesn't wash her dc pjs every day and he doesn't change his pj's everyday, i stated that my dc changes his pj's everyday but i don't wash his pj's everyday because he has multiple pj's...

Frogdoglog · 20/03/2023 21:33

My kids have clean pjs every night but I usually wear my own for a couple of nights. The kids usually eat breakfast in theirs and roll around in the dog hair downstairs before getting dressed (probably a whole other Aibu!) whereas I get dressed pretty much as soon as I get up in the morning and hang my pjs over a chair.

My son ia 2 years old! I wash his clothes with mine and i have a dryer aswel so some of the washing gets left for when there is a wash load including my items too... At the end of the day like i mentioned my son is 2 also like to add i am potty training him

Anotherturnipforthebooks · 20/03/2023 21:37

But you're still washing 7 sets of PJs a week instead of one or two. I think the point is that unnecessary washing adds up to whole extra loads of laundry being done each week that could probably be avoided.

SparkyBlue · 20/03/2023 21:40

That person must have way too much time on their hands. I'm a naturally sweaty person (peri not helping) so I do change mine most days but the DC absolutely not every day unless spills or whatever. It's only babies and toddlers need daily changes with milk/ drool/ breakfast/ leaky nappy or even not leaky but I found sometimes there was just a full nappy smell that got into the bottoms. I also don't bath my children every night so my kids must be manky.

Like i mentioned to the other poster ny son is 2 years old and he is being potty trained i put my washing in aswel as his.... I have a dryer and whatever gets left over will be for another load..My house runs on electricity ad my electric bill isn't high im actually my balance on octopus is 200 so i think im doing well, thanks for ur concern.

Whatwouldnanado · 20/03/2023 21:47

Wow, she needs to sort her priorities out on lots of levels. No little'uns now but when we did pjs were changed only when whiff or grub was obvious. Less time washing and folding and more time for stories and cuddles.

Anotherturnipforthebooks · 20/03/2023 21:48

@Onemyownhere

I'm not concerned and I don't think op started this thread about you.

You just seemed to not understand the point that was being made so I was responding on that basis.

I don't care how often you wash your kid's clothes, but if you're sensitive to criticism, maybe don't share details about your life online.
