To be so drained and fed up of constant electronic forms and passwords and apps?

Hate it so much I can't express it. Nothing works right for me, you need a fairly recent smartphone for apps to work for example.

Then with electronic forms. Fuck me. I'm trying to fill in a whole complicated form for an appointment and cannot get the 'electronically fillable' form to work. So now I have to print it, and hope the printer works, and then take a photo and scan or something.

I don't have the energy to do this now. It is now a whole multi step process with lots of little bits to get the task done.

I just fucking hate it all when it comes to appointments and job applications and whatnot, and then everything needing an app, or an account with a password that needs xyz to meet criteria.

God needed to get that off my chest.

I don't even know why the form won't let me type on it, for god's sake.

yanbu
special place in hell is reserved for the developer of my work's hr app.
it's awful.

Arrrrrrragghhh · 17/03/2023 21:18

Yep. It’s ridiculous . Forms require GSCE computing to get them to work.

It’s not only that every single thing requires multiple passwords ( you can get a master password thing apparently to save them all). It’s the endless shit you need to wade through. Pages to agree to or pages of hype telling you about allthe exciting new features you can access (if you sign up or in with yet another password)

Yeah so much this!

Agreed! I honestly think our brains were not designed for this kind of life admin crap and this may be one small part of the puzzle in the depression/anxiety epidemic. We were designed to talk to people!

Bananabreadandcupofcoffeethanks · 17/03/2023 21:20

And also, I just don't WANT a parking app on my phone to pay for town centre parking.

I just want to go and shove a few coins in the machine.

Passwords make me weep. A different password for every app and service, passwords should be 10 characters long and include a symbol, a mix of higher case and lower case, must not be formed of memorable words or contain easily remembered dates, such as birthdays. Passwords must not be written down.

They are just setting us up to fail aren't they?

Bananabreadandcupofcoffeethanks · 17/03/2023 21:23

When it comes to something like form filling for a medical appointment, how did that work years ago pre internet?

I remember just going along to a hospital appointment and somebody would take my details there?

I feel like the (private hospital via health insurance) should be paying somebody to do this job, instead of me having to faff around uploading pictures of my health insurance docs and endless form filling.

One of the several things I love about my GPS surgery is that you can pop in, ask the nice receptionist for the right bit of paper and fill in your repeat prescription request with a biro.
You can also do it electronically but they keep the paper option for people who prefer it.

I try to use apps as little as possible. Ditto self checkouts at the supermarket.

Bananabreadandcupofcoffeethanks · 17/03/2023 21:26

Drives me nuts and means I can never remember them.

Sure, I understand we can get password managers but presumably that works on your own home computer and you link it somehow to your phone?

So then you can't log in from anywhere else as it won't store your passwords?

It just all irritates me, when did everything get so complicated?

Also hate making an account every time I shop or buy tickets for something.

This is probably one of the few things that I actually value an app for. Just being able to see your blood test results etc at the click of a button is really useful.

YANBU.
And another thing.... All of a sudden, you're invited to sign into almost every website with your Google account?!? I mean, do I look completely mad? Like, google thinks "we know almost everything about you already, but with all these different accounts we can't be quite sure it's the same person, so it'd be nice for us to just REALLY get all those dots connected". On your bike.

Ivesaidenough · 17/03/2023 21:27

I could not agree with you more-I thought I was the only one finding it harder than ever to do even simple things.

Bananabreadandcupofcoffeethanks · 17/03/2023 21:28

I thought technology was meant to make life simpler, but it honestly feels like it is more complicated?

Don't get me wrong. I love all the advances we have, for example the way tech has made science and research very sophisticated. That's great and so important.

But in everyday life, tasks that were simpler before seem harder now in a way?

Yes!!!! I honestly feel my kids education has suffered cos I can’t work fucking Seesaw

megletthesecond · 17/03/2023 21:30

Yanbu.
I've started digging my heels in now. DS's secondary have decided to do away with emails and now send messages on a separate website / app. He's in his last few weeks of school so I'm continuing to email it also means I can keep evidence of what ive sent. My brain is on overload these days.
I also insist on paying in cash at the mcdonalds counter which raises eyebrows.

DashboardConfessional · 17/03/2023 21:30

YANBU. Every. Bloody. Shop. Download the app! Why the fuck do I want the app for Carpet Right or whoever? How often am I buying carpets according to their market research?!

Bananabreadandcupofcoffeethanks · 17/03/2023 21:31

Why the fuck do I want the app for Carpet Right or whoever?

Genuinely laughed at this!

But yes, exactly.

Dirtypaintwater · 17/03/2023 21:31

We've had to traipse into our letting agents today to ask for stuff to be printed because we neither have a working computer with word, nor a working printer.

I can't work off my mobile because I can't afford to subscribe to Microsoft 365 or whatever it is, and a phone is too small, I have Irlens Syndrome and find proper forms hard enough never mind trying to read an excel document or fill a form in via a mobile effing phone screen.

MistressoftheDarkSide · 17/03/2023 21:33

OP I'm with you 100% .....

I have to use the same password for nearly everything or I end up in a circular hell of one time passcodes to change it yet again and I'm at the stage where I just think "Fuck it scammers.... you are welcome to my overdraft and I'm past caring ...."

I absolutely hate technology 99% of the time......

I set up a new laptop recently and how many times was I asked about my personal advert preferences???? I'm not an internet shopper so no amount of guile is going to persuade me to start..... 🙄

the80sweregreat · 17/03/2023 21:33

Parking apps never ever work for me and I know stopping the money ones will
Come one day :(
Putting my number plate in.. it's all just faff, no wonder the high street is dying.
Pass words, forgotten passwords, unique memorable passwords, it can all just do one
Hate it all. It's not made anything any easier at all
And breath
