To be so drained and fed up of constant electronic forms and passwords and apps?

Hate it so much I can't express it. Nothing works right for me, you need a fairly recent smartphone for apps to work for example.

Then with electronic forms. Fuck me. I'm trying to fill in a whole complicated form for an appointment and cannot get the 'electronically fillable' form to work. So now I have to print it, and hope the printer works, and then take a photo and scan or something.

I don't have the energy to do this now. It is now a whole multi step process with lots of little bits to get the task done.

I just fucking hate it all when it comes to appointments and job applications and whatnot, and then everything needing an app, or an account with a password that needs xyz to meet criteria.

God needed to get that off my chest.

Yeah. I mean if you sign into chrome then of course you can save all your passwords and they synch across any device you sign into. Also, this may make me a total hypocrite because I develop software for a living, but most of it is absolutely shit. HR, payroll, expenses apps are terrible. Apps for immigration in every country. Apps for my flight. Buying some popcorn in the cinema - download our shitty app with one card type accepted.

TwoMonthsOff · 17/03/2023 21:36

And …..’we have sent you a code’ it’s enough to make you want to live on a desert island 🤯

Viviennemary · 17/03/2023 21:37

It drives me mad. I wish computers had never been invented. They are a curse.

Oblomov23 · 17/03/2023 21:38

I hate it all. I hate passwords. You have one, but one website won't accept a certain digit, Then you save it, but next tune your iPhone password recall won't remember it.

Suetcrust · 17/03/2023 21:39

Oh I am so glad it’s not us of greater maturity who get so vexed with it all.

Reading these posts makes me realise it’s not just us more mature folk who get confused and vexed by it all.

I feel quite proud now that it only took me just over an hour yesterday to understand how to register for and access a new bank account I’ve just set up! Hoorah! I’m not alone.
Thanks Mumsnetters!

cadburyegg · 17/03/2023 21:39

YES. I agree so much. You have to sign in to the bbc now just to load the news and weather apps. I just wanna know if it's going to rain 😭😭

Oh my gosh, yes. Odeon. You have to buy your Pick n Mix either on a screen in the lobby or on the app. Then you go to the counter and they give you the cup. It is absolutely batshit crazy.

the80sweregreat · 17/03/2023 21:41

Download this app ..
no, just go away and let me speak to a human being.
Or ' chat to me online ' . I won't be any help at all , but maybe I can waste your time for half hour whilst directing you to our website instead
It's just soul destroying

Cherryblossoms85 · 17/03/2023 21:42

@DashboardConfessional yep, the odeon one killed me. They've taken an enjoyable part of the cinema experience and turned it into a bunch of cattle shuffling around waiting for their number to come up. I've stopped buying any food from them and just bring my own for half the price (which btw is permitted), why should I pay that sort of money for no service?

WomanFromTheNorth · 17/03/2023 21:42

Agree with PP that said I think all the shit and the lack of human interaction that it brings, is part of the reason for our worsening mental health.

Doublegloucester · 17/03/2023 21:44

I love this thread so much, I thought it was just me that felt like this.
The worst but is when the iPhone password rememberer remembers the wrong password. Torture!

AmyandPhilipfan · 17/03/2023 21:44

Eurgh, I hate passwords. I know you're not meant to, but I try to use the same password for everything as there's no way I'd remember multiple ones.

But...

When the internet first became big and websites started needing passwords I chose my word and used it for everything.

That worked for a while.

Then places started dictating you needed a capital letter. So I inserted a capital letter.

Then they started needing a number. So I inserted a number.

Then they needed a special character. So I put in one of those.

Then I had a bit of a security issue with my emails so started using a new word.

And recently places have been asking for more characters than they used to so I've had to use multiple words.

So now when I sign on to anything I have to try about 6 combinations because I can't remember which variation of my password I had to use for that site! And some only let you try about 3 and then lock you out!

PerkingFaintly · 17/03/2023 21:45

pages of hype telling you about allthe exciting new features you can access
THIS!

"Learn all about our exciting new banking features."

NO. NO NO NOPPITY NOPE NO!

I do not ever, ever want my banking to be exciting. Well, perhaps if I discovered the lottery had unexpectedly paid a million quid into my account. But in any other context, any banking experience that gets my heart racing is a Very Bad Thing Indeed.

I want it to be boring, predictable, and work exactly as expected.

ilovesooty · 17/03/2023 21:47

Bananabreadandcupofcoffeethanks · 17/03/2023 21:20

And also, I just don't WANT a parking app on my phone to pay for town centre parking.

I just want to go and shove a few coins in the machine.

I'd much rather use a parking app than mess around trying to find coins I've never got then trudge back to the car to stick a bit of paper on the screen.

the80sweregreat · 17/03/2023 21:47

I had an email about a euro lottery win
Had to sign in , mess about blah blah blah ..
2.80
Didn't change my fucking life
Not even enough for the car park

Agree 💯.My children are intelligent people in their 20s and they all moan about everything that PPs have mentioned….they need human contact, voice at end of phone and not numerous anonymous bloody APPS !!

lieselotte · 17/03/2023 21:48

I was trying to log into an account today. I only changed the password the other day. It said I was putting it in wrong. I tried it several times but it refused.

So I went away and checked my phone, which was still logged in.

Came back to computer and tried to change password to one I thought it was. It says "no you've already used that one". So I then use that to log in (without bothering to change again) and it works.

What the so and so is that all about?

And lots of websites are deciding that you need supercomplicated passwords now - don't hackers just use brute force anyway?

As for the parking app business, the parking companies can bog off.

Pay on foot is the best because you don't have to guess how long you need. And you can pay by coins or card.

Missymarple · 17/03/2023 21:49

I get the full rage when I'm setting up a new account and they ask me to pick a password. I put one in and then, and only then, do they give it the 'ooh no, this won't do, your password needs a capital letter, a number, a special character' etc etc. If it's so fucking important, why do they not state that it has to have these characteristics in the first place?? Full. Rage.

Arrrrrrragghhh · 17/03/2023 21:50

Santander are my nemesis. I have a zero % credit card with them. Never spend on it, it’s just for paying off a balance transfer. I found it impossible to sign in. I phoned. After 7 minutes of a recording telling me it was easier online I had to do my voice is my password. Which didn’t work. Any of the the 10 plus times I tried over two months.
Finally got a person. They agreed I could have paper copies to see how much I owed each month.
Last week post arrived from them. A letter explaining they were going paperless and from now on I needed to use their app….Arrrragghhh indeed.

Exactly my beef ! I now have half dozen combos for my password. Have started to write them all down in a book..glad it’s not just me !!

Those that do know the login and password hell we endure.

Agreed! I honestly think our brains were not designed for this kind of life admin crap and this may be one small part of the puzzle in the depression/anxiety epidemic. We were designed to talk to people!

A clinical psychologist told me exactly this. Our brains are not designed to be taking in and processing this amount of information on a daily basis.

Elphame · 17/03/2023 21:55

Loving this thread - I fell foul of the parking app the other day. For some reason my phone would not connect to the 4G signal. I of course had not change as I was counting on using apple pay. Just went home and ordered from Amazon

Life surely doesn't need to be so complicated.
