Randoms using my wheelie bin for their dog shit!

I'm fuming. Put my wheelie bin at the top of my driveway last night for collection today, it's fairly full so the top is slightly open. Just went out this morning (it hasn't been emptied yet) and noticed someone has placed two bags full of dog shit in my bin on top of my rubbish bags! AIBU or is this absolutely disgusting? I don't have a dog and I don't want dog shit in my bin.

This pisses me right off!! Someone threw dog shit in a bag into my bin that was still on the street having just been emptied. 2 weeks worth of rubbish bags later and the dog shit bag at the bottom of the bin split smearing stinky shit all over the bottom of my bin - I then had to clean my bin out before I could put anything else in it. Inconsiderate arseholes, I don’t have a dog because I don’t want to pick up it’s shit, so I sure as hell don’t want to be clearing up dog mess from someone else’s dog!
And before someone points out that I shouldn’t have put so much stuff on the top- ITS MY BIN, I should be able to use it as I see fit, without having to consider dog shit at the bottom!!

I for one think it's disgusting. Use a dog poo bin, or your own bin, not somebody else's. Just like I'd never put my own rubbish in someone else's wheelie bin.

Totally agree. I have 2 dogs and their poop gets deposited in the dog poop bins, rather than my wheelie bin. The dog bin gets emptied at least once , possibly twice per week. My bin has to sit for 2 weeks and they are threatening 3 weeks.

Someone did that to my recycling bin, I spotted it and tipped the bin up, left their dog shit bag in the street. The other dig walkers will know who walks that area, what bags they use and judge them as I did throwing it in an empty recycling bin.

I've used someone else's bin twice for putting bagged dog poo in. I try not to because, as evidenced here, people are freakishly weird about it!!
The route I walk my dog only has public bins spaced 45 minutes apart. If he poops at the start of the walk when I've already passed the first bin, I'm going to use someone's wheelie bin if it's on the kerb. If I don't pass a wheelie bin then whatever, I'll carry it to the next public bin.
I'd happily let people use my bin for bagged dog poo, pooey nappies etc rather than make someone carry it for ages. I'm just glad if someone actually cleans up after their dog/kid/whatever!
Bins are gross, properly bagged poo isn't going to make a difference.

It's not freakishly weird to want your bin to not stink of shit.

People pay to have their bins cleaned so that they are not gross, yours might be, sounds as if they are if they are if you think everyone has a gross bin. You probably only put your dog shit in someone else's bin though.

I keep my bins clean, my rubbish is minimal and carefully sealed to avoid leakage and I don't want a bag of shit glueing itself to the bottom thanks. Take it home, it is yours. Or use a public bin, or even a dog poo bin.

vodkaredbullgirl · 17/03/2023 12:04

We need a diagram of where said bin is and were said end of drive is?

horseyhorsey17 · 17/03/2023 10:19

You chucked dog shit into the street?! What a sane and proportionate response.

Yes, it was, I had no intention of keeping the foul stinking thing in my in bin for a week, just because some lazy sod could be bothered to take it to their own bin. Or more likely did not want it stinking out their bin.

OoooohMatron · 17/03/2023 12:04

Neededanewuserhandle · 17/03/2023 11:46

Deal with it? As in become aware a bag of shit is in your shortly to be collected bin? What the exactual fuck ill-effects does that "dealing" have? Is is just the awful thought that some shit is in a bag in your bin? Some people really need to get a grip.

Again, it's not up to dog owners to decide what should bother other people in relation to their dogs shit.

MonumentalLentil · 17/03/2023 12:07

OutlandishBird · 17/03/2023 11:53

Because a bin is a bin. Why carry a bag of turd instead of putting it neatly in the first bin you come across?!

As someone else has said, the council owns ALL the bins in my area, so nobody actually owns their household bin in the first place. As long as the poo is picked up and disposed of in a bin (ANY general waste bin) I don't see the issue.

The Council might own the bins, but the residents have to pay to have them emptied (and pay if they go missing). The bins are effectively being rented by the residents so you are being a shit by using them.

So you took shit out of the bin and chucked it on the floor for everyone else to tread in? You sound lovely.

ZeldaWillTellYourFortune · 17/03/2023 12:12

ZiriForEver · 17/03/2023 11:53

OP, it objectively is disgusting.
People just feel like heroes that they do the absolute minimum of picking up their dogs excrements, so they feel entitled to inconvenience everyone else with the smelly bag as well.

Exactly.

The "a bin is a bin" attitude is bullshit.

No, my bin is clean and shit-free, unlike yours.

In my area it is against council rules for anyone but the relevant homeowner to deposit into wheelie bins rented by the residents.

I've taken video and threatened to use it unless they fish their fecal matter out and take it away.

Buddythecat1 · 17/03/2023 12:12

My partner does this, but I'm always worried someone will shout at him/us for doing it.
I'm one though that doesn't see the harm, would rather it be bagged and in a bin than for my children to step all over

ticklemepinker · 17/03/2023 12:17

I would put bagged poo in a bin left on the pavement. Either it’s bin day (in which case it’ll go very soon), or someone is too lazy to take their bin in, and thinks they have a right to pavement space (in which case I reckon they can expect their bin to be used as a public bin).
i wouldn’t put a poo bag in a bin that has just been emptied though, as I think it could split in 2 weeks and that would be horrid.

You really can't. I wouldn't put my dog's poo in some random's bin. However, I wouldn't care - or probably even know, as I don't spent ages staring into the depths of my wheely bins - if someone put theirs in mine.

Me too - I think it's maybe a bit cheeky and I certainly wouldn't do it - I carry my dog's shit home if we don't pass a bin, but it really wouldn't bother me and I don't spend loads of time obsessing over what might be in my bin as it is all going in the bin lorry.

Then again, I really don't get the idea of bin cleaning - I haven't cleaned a wheelie bin (or paid to have one cleaned) ever.

You clearly missed the part where I said I'd only done it TWICE. Therefore, yes, my household general waste bins are full of his bagged poo....

Yes, I 100% agree my general waste bins are dirty, as are yours by the way. I don't waste headspace, money or cause environmental damage by obsessing over the cleanliness of my outdoor bins. Have them washed as much as you like, bacteria multiply and don't stay neatly tucked away in your tied up bags.
My rubbish is bagged, but.... It's a bin for christ sake. I have so many other things to stress about that a dirty bin really doesn't register on my list of things to give a shit about (pun intended).

There's probably a split on here between dog owners - who put their own dog's shit into their bin anyway - and non-dog-owners who are horrified by the idea of shit in a bin. If you have dogs, dealing with dog shit is inevitable, and you have to bin it. Yes dog shit is objectively disgusting but so is human shit and it's no less disgusting than putting disposable nappies in a bin. Bagged, of course. I assume no savages are just lobbing unbagged shit and nappies into bins.

I do feel a bit sorry for bin men, even though my local ones leave a trail of mess behind them every time they visit with their 'so long as most of it goes in the lorry it's fine' approach to bin emptying.

It's not just dog owners. As you pointed out parents with small kids generally have quite a bit of shit in their bins, we did when DD was little, and we didn't have a dog then.
Some people seem weird about bins.

It is not being 'WEIRD ABOUT BINS' to not want some random fucker sticking THEIR DOG'S SHIT in YOUR wheelie bin.

Fucking hell. This place sometimes. Confused

Exactly this. How dare anybody tell me or anyone else, that I have got no right to be pissed off and angry and furious, at someone sticking their dog's filthy fucking shit in my wheelie bin. My bin is MY property that belongs to ME.

Take your fucking mutt's dog shit home OR put it in a public bin. MANY places have bins that are specifically for dog shit, and if you are a dog owner/dog walker, YOU WLL KNOW THIS, and you will know where the bins are.

Do not put your dog's shit in my bin ... If I caught anybody doing this to mine, I swear to God I would get the hose pipe and hose down the owner and the dog. This is just very typical of some dog owners. Really selfish and entitled and arrogant. And don't give a fuck about anybody else but themselves and their mutt.

I've seen the type... let their dogs shit anywhere, on footpaths where people need to walk, (people in wheelchairs, people who have poor eyesight, people who have children in pushchairs etc...) Then there's people who let their dog piss up your wheelie bin, and fence posts, and planters out of the front of the house.

As soon as they see you though, (if their dog is about to piss or shit!) they pull the dog away. So they can't give me this bullshit that they can't help where the dog goes. Can't get away quick enough if they see me when their dog is squatting or cocking their leg up my fucking planters or attempting to shit by my gate post/fence.

And spare me the 'you sound sooo angry' nonsense. Coz I know I am. This thread is boiling my piss. Are there REALLY so many people who think it's OK to stick their bag of DOGSHIT in someone else's wheelie bin?! Fuck me, I've read it all now!

twoandcooplease · 17/03/2023 08:45

It would bother me. I pay £17.42 every 4 weeks for my bins to be cleaned so that'd really piss me off

This isn't sarcastic, but why? are they very close to your front door or in your back garden?

I can't imagine 'bin cleaning' is a very lucrative business. Is it the window cleaner who offers bin cleaning as an extra?

midlander79 · 17/03/2023 12:45

You can put a dead body in my bin for all I care to be honest

AnneElliott · 17/03/2023 12:48

I don't personally have an issue with it (as long as they put it in the right bin!) but I wouldn't do it myself as you don't know how the residents would feel about that.

I have cats so my bin is full of used cat litter but its not obvious so no people shouldn't be doing it.

Actually, your bin belongs to the council.

Also, the sort of people who leave their dog shit everywhere clearly aren't the same people who bag their shit and put it into bins.
