It's fucked isn't it......I'm so sick of life.

Two steps forward and one step back.

The smell is unreal!!!!

Did you let the cat in ? If not then bill your neighbours for the cost of professional cleaning

prettyraindrops · 05/03/2023 21:29

Can you wash the cover? Bicarb of soda? Vinegar? It'll eventually wear off x

Galadriel90 · 05/03/2023 21:32

Why was the cat in your house?

Whatthefnow · 05/03/2023 21:37

My back door was open, my daughter rang me in work tonight to say cat was in sitting room she tried shooing it out but he pissed on the couch. I'm sat in my kitchen crying my eyes out so sick of everything.

I'm doing up my sitting room and now it's ruined.

Honestly it’s not ruined. My cat went through a stage of weeing all over our house. Lots
of cleaning but it can be dealt with.

AlmostAJillSandwich · 05/03/2023 21:40

Nope, i'd never be able to sit on that couch again. Neighbours should be paying for cleaning/replacing, not sure how you'd enforce that though.

Blingstar · 05/03/2023 21:54

@cheatingcrackers ours too. How did you get it to stop?

Whatthefnow · 05/03/2023 21:55

I've come home from work the smell is just terrible can't get away from it

Think yourself lucky. My neighbour pissed on mine!

JMSA · 05/03/2023 21:58

Oh god, I really feel for you. I'd want to boot the thing up the arse ... even though I never would!
I hope the smell goes away soon and that you can get back to enjoying your newly decorated living room.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 05/03/2023 21:59

Wilkos do a fantastic spray, the trick is to saturate it and leave it to dry and it'll neutralise the smell.

JustGotToKeepOnKeepingOn · 05/03/2023 22:00

My neighbours cat peed all over my bed. I claimed on my house insurance and they paid up! I got a new mattress.

Whatthefnow · 05/03/2023 22:02

@ShakespearesBlister that made me laugh...... and has given me an idea 😁

The insurance man came round to review the damage and gagged on the smell 🤣

JustGotToKeepOnKeepingOn · 05/03/2023 22:04

The claim was approved on the spot.

JMSA · 05/03/2023 22:04

You can see why the smell of cat litter boxes keeps mice away!

ZeldaB · 05/03/2023 22:04

Pour bicarbonate soda (baking powder) all over it, that’ll absorb the smell

NewShoes · 05/03/2023 22:05

The neighbours absolutely should not pay for it - you’re the one who left your door open for animals to wander in!

themuminator · 05/03/2023 22:05

Ahh poor you. I'm going to be honest, as a cat owner... I wouldn't blame you for binning the cushion. Can you order a new one?

Def try the products recommended. They do help.

My cat is a little shite* and has pissed various places, but the worst seems to be the carpet as you can never get the smell out. And if a patch of urine has dried, then you never seem to be able to get rid of it.

If it is a cushion, I would try to rinse and rinse as much as possible. Then product to neutralise the odour, then rinse some more.

(*I do love her really and she's just had a rough start in life)

Ihatethenewlook · 05/03/2023 22:07

My neighbours cat came into my house I’d moved into less than 3/4 minutes earlier and sprayed piss all over my 6 day old baby who was in the car seat on the floor. A few days later it came in and pissed up my curtains. Nothing totally gets the smell out of fabric imo. I had about 8 months of this until I bought a cat- aggressive dog which solved the problem.

prettyraindrops · 05/03/2023 22:07

I honestly don't think it's ruined forever. My cats pissed in different places before. If it was a duvet I'd say yeah through it out but I think this can be salvageable. What kind of sofa? As I say if fabric wash the cover.. put some white vinegar in the wash. Blot the cushion, Bicarb of soda loads of it on the cushion for a minimum of 12 hours. Spray with vinegar liberally. Then febreeze etc daily for a while. Don't get too upset xx

cheatingcrackers · 05/03/2023 22:08

@Blingstar I took him to the vet to ask for their advice, paid a huge fee for advice plus urine tests and then of course he stopped of his own accord 😂
In all seriousness I think it’s stress related with him. We’d had a run of visitors and that set it off and I guess just time made it stop. But worth checking for UTIs etc if you haven’t already.

Yeh, the op should totally not keep a door or window open ever, just in case someone else’s pet decides to wander in and piss all over the furniture 🙄
