It's fucked isn't it......I'm so sick of life.

Two steps forward and one step back.

The smell is unreal!!!!

Sorry but legally the neighbour isn't liable for the misdeeds of her cat. Cats are deemed to be out of human control. If it had been a dog that would be a different matter.

Justalittlebitduckling · 05/03/2023 22:18

Good luck but we ended up buying a new sofa 😕 it’s soooo bad and you think it’s gone then it mysteriously reappears.

Careeradvice123 · 05/03/2023 22:19

I'd check on insurance you never know

Not legally liable, but morally liable. If you, your pet or your child pisses on the neighbour's furniture you should sort it out.

Theunamedcat · 05/03/2023 22:22

The urine products are very good use biological washing powder too its salvageable

Shropshirepie · 05/03/2023 22:22

I second this. Totally gets rid of the smell.

Spinninggyro · 05/03/2023 22:23

Another recommendation for the Simple Solution Extreme. I have used it for vomit, poo and wee from animals (dogs of various anges) and humans (potty training and elderly unwell) and it’s dealt with everything. Smells and stains gone. Might take 2 applications.

mycatisaloveabledemon · 05/03/2023 22:24

No it's not fucked, but I totally understand the annoyance and upset.

Cats are assholes. There's not really any way to control them, unlike dogs they don't particularly care about being good or following rules. The neighbours only way to prevent the cat annoying anyone is to keep it as a house cat and build a catio if they have space which is what I chose to do

And of course OP shouldn't have to keep windows and doors closed to avoid a cat weeing on the sofa.

But it can be sorted OP, and had I been the neighbour I'd have been over to sort it for you and bought you dinner or something to apologise

@ShakespearesBlister that made me laugh...... and has given me an idea 😁

I wish I was joking though...please don't go round and piss on her sofa though lol 🤣

Wineat5isfine · 05/03/2023 22:39

Really?? So if a door or window is open, it’s a free for all and it’s the house owners fault?

How about cat owners keep their cats confined to their own property ( as MANY wonderful and responsible owners do) so the cats don’t get the opportunity to behave like arseholes? 🤷🏼‍♀️

NotDrowningJustCrowing · 05/03/2023 22:45

In the run up to my boy cat having his nuts knackered he started peeing everywhere up to and including on me while I was asleep in the bed. I love him but cats can be absolute bastards. I did throw away the duvet because it was too much to deal with but there are incredibly good sprays that will save furniture from the never-ending smell of cat piss. My mattress was nearly brand new at the time and you'd never know that a ridiculously hormonal bastard cat had pissed on it.

Alwayswonderedwhy · 05/03/2023 22:48

Your neighbors need to pay. They also need to keep their cat out of other people's homes.

FrostyFifi · 05/03/2023 22:48

Sounds like it's a tom cat who has sprayed, the stink of that is unreal. Neighbour should get the thing's nuts chopped off ffs.

ShakespearesBlister · 05/03/2023 21:55

Think yourself lucky. My neighbour pissed on mine!

You can't just leave it there. Did the neighbour also creep in through the back door ?

I don’t like cats, but even I can see this is a silly suggestion.
Cats aren’t biddable animals!
Personally I’d want to squirt the damn animal with water if it came back, but that’s probably not ok!

monsterradeliciosa · 05/03/2023 22:52

My mums dog pissed on mine
i sat in it
I got the covers off washed them dried even and 40 minutes later it was like nothing happened

EmmaDilemma5 · 05/03/2023 22:52

Unfortunately I don't think soft furnishings can recover. It will be in the foam. Cleaning the fabric won't be enough.

My friend has a cat that pisses in the house every now and then and it's really hard to get rid of and such a horrid smell.

mycatisaloveabledemon · 05/03/2023 22:54

They aren't biddable animals but I honestly don't understand why some people are against house cats. It's far safer for them, less dangerous to the other wildlife and you don't have to have them annoying anybody but you.

Lovelyring · 05/03/2023 22:54

Our cat wees everywhere, it drives me insane (cat came with the husband!).

The enzyme sprays recommended by pp do help massively. Just water doesn't work at all.

We also had our carpets and the fabric sofa professionally cleaned once by someone who used a similar enzyme cleaner before his normal wash. I don't think you can smell it on the sofa anymore at all.

Enzyme cleaners. Honestly they work

mycatisaloveabledemon · 05/03/2023 22:59

@DanseAvecLesLoup

Sorry? Fuck off with saying the OP shouldn't have to keep windows and doors closed to avoid a cat weeing on her sofa?

Strange take. I thought it was completely reasonable for her to keep her doors or windows open when she wanted

destinybreek · 05/03/2023 22:59

While this is very unfortunate the neighbour is not legally liable to pay.

But I do agree with the others, the smell will come out. A tom cat sprayed on the seats of my car once - heated seats! It took about 2 weeks of half heartedly trying different solutions until it was all gone. Some of the solutions on here sound alot simpler. I just sprayed and scrubbed and used bicarb.

Rinkydinkydoodle · 05/03/2023 23:02

Ihatethenewlook · 05/03/2023 22:07

My neighbours cat came into my house I’d moved into less than 3/4 minutes earlier and sprayed piss all over my 6 day old baby who was in the car seat on the floor. A few days later it came in and pissed up my curtains. Nothing totally gets the smell out of fabric imo. I had about 8 months of this until I bought a cat- aggressive dog which solved the problem.

WTAF. Side-eyeing my cats now in case they’re secret baby-pissers.

Whatthefnow · 05/03/2023 23:05

It's a leather couch, the cushions don't com off 😭😭
