It's fucked isn't it......I'm so sick of life.

Two steps forward and one step back.

The smell is unreal!!!!

Really?? So if a door or window is open, it’s a free for all and it’s the house owners fault?

How about cat owners keep their cats confined to their own property ( as MANY wonderful and responsible owners do) so the cats don’t get the opportunity to behave like arseholes? 🤷🏼‍♀️

Fully aware it's considered OK in some places to "confine a cat to your property" but some people would consider that cruel.

If you intend to imprison an animal, make it tropical fish or a hamster, not a cat.

@OP you can totally clean this. Next step, maybe consider getting a dog.

TooBigForMyBoots · 06/03/2023 00:37

If you allow your pet to roam, you should remedy any damage they do.

I had one for 18.5 years. He had excellent quality of life and didn't destroy anyone else's property.

Unless you had a cat cam on him 24/7 there's no way you could actually know this definitively

He was a house cat!
Reading comprehension, anyone!!

NewShoes · 05/03/2023 22:05

The neighbours absolutely should not pay for it - you’re the one who left your door open for animals to wander in!

Nice bit of victim blaming there.

Laughable.

Mamanyt · 06/03/2023 01:13

There are enzymatic cleaners available now that will completely remove every trace of the smell so totally that the cat cannot even smell it any more. Check Amazon, as I am not familiar with UK stores that might carry them.

Sarain · 06/03/2023 01:14

Get a screen for your door and windows. They're cheap and keep out all unwanted visitors be they bugs or cats.

704703hey · 06/03/2023 01:19

I'm another one who would like to know how PP's neighbour pissed on her sofa! 😂

PP sorry this is so stressful for you, perhaps get a quote from a professional cleaner about the material and speak to neighbour about the cost?

704703hey · 06/03/2023 01:19

*OP sorry this happened

Whatthefnow · 06/03/2023 01:28

To top it all off my washing machine and dryer just stopped, went to the fuse board tipped the switch back on and..... nothing.

I've hunted out an extension lead and plugged it into a different plug that the machine was plugged into. The ex boyfriend and his shit DIY really is the gift that keeps on giving.

My house is in bit

God I really feel shit tonight 😭

I'm sorry. Had an electric problem last night, unresolved; my kitchen and front room lights are out. Like you i had some uncharacteristic sobs.

On top of ill dog, ill sister, shitty job, it was the last straw.

This too shall pass.

mycatisaloveabledemon · 06/03/2023 01:54

@ZeldaWillTellYourFortune I'm sorry 😂 I had been read wrong and quoted wrong that I assumed it was happening again and someone telling me their non house cat had always behaved 🙈

AlmostAJillSandwich · 05/03/2023 21:40

Nope, i'd never be able to sit on that couch again. Neighbours should be paying for cleaning/replacing, not sure how you'd enforce that though.

Ridiculous. It’s the neighbour’a fault the door was left open??

twoshoeson · 06/03/2023 02:09

ShakespearesBlister · 05/03/2023 21:55

Think yourself lucky. My neighbour pissed on mine!

😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

WiddlinDiddlin · 06/03/2023 05:07

For now, wipe it clean using bio washing powder and water, getting as far into the creases as you can.

Get neighbour to pay for it to be professionally cleaned.

Unfortunately if piss gets in (any piss, its all the same from this POV), where it cannot be rinsed out or reached by professional grade enzymatic cleaning products, then those urine crystals stay put - each time the humidity reaches a high enough level, the crystals rehydrate and it stinks of piss again.

This is why some people believe they've fixed a piss stain in a carpet or sofa with one or two treatments of something and others find they've treated it multiple times to no avail - the former person has a dryer house than the latter.

I am sorry OP. It does seems to not rain but pour.

If you haven't already ordered the sprays an estate agent told me this trick one day. (I was having a show house trying to sell and about 20 mins before the first viewing a tom cat came in and sprayed all over the curtains ).

Put Dettol and vanilla essence into a spray bottle and top up a bit with water and use this. With it being leather it's a bit more tricky so after some time perhaps use one of the leather treatments so it doesn't dry out.

ittakes2 · 06/03/2023 06:32

Is it washable? We got cat urine out that was over a year old - sprayed this on left for two days and washed out with bicarbonate sofa and washing tablet

I am not a cat owner. But I am laughing at the idea of the OP going to her neighbour and demanding they pay for a replacement or cleaning of the sofa. Only on Mumsnet do people come up with the most ridiculous suggestions. It is like another universe compared to the rest of us in the real world.

No. It's the neighbour's fault their pet has caused upset for someone else.
That pet probably upsets more than just this poor lady.

DanseAvecLesLoup · 06/03/2023 07:54

mycatisaloveabledemon · 05/03/2023 22:59

@DanseAvecLesLoup

Sorry? Fuck off with saying the OP shouldn't have to keep windows and doors closed to avoid a cat weeing on her sofa?

Strange take. I thought it was completely reasonable for her to keep her doors or windows open when she wanted

My apologies mycatisaloveabledemon, complete comprehension fail on my part (I blame the earlier Sunday roast and bottle of wine). I thought I was replying to newshoes. I'm a bit twitchy on the subject as my former neighbour had a few cats and she firmly believed in the right to roam and zero responsibility for her moggies despite them constantly shitting and pissing in other people's houses on the street. Her solution was also everyone else should keep their windows closed! Apologies again.

PrincessHoneysuckle · 06/03/2023 07:54

This makes me very grateful for my little territorial dogs! Cat piss smell is vile

PrincessHoneysuckle · 06/03/2023 07:57

Could you get a fly screen for your back door so you can have it open but cat wouldn't have easy access?

romdowa · 06/03/2023 07:57

We had just gotten the keys to our new house , had the new couch delivered and our new neighbours dog jumped the wall between the yards, came in the back door and pissed on the couch about ten minutes after I unwrapped it. The new neighbour had to pay to have the couch cleaned and she had to build a fence to keep her pissing machine in her yard.

KalvinPhillipsBoots · 06/03/2023 07:57

Just wash the covers and use Bicarbonated Soda Chrystal, pour a load over and leave it for a few hours to soak the smell up, then hoover couch and then clean with whatever you use. Your daughter can help seen she left the door wide open.

RudsyFarmer · 06/03/2023 08:00

I would put a plea on Facebook explaining what’s happened and ask if anyone can think of a way to solve the problem. I’d bet you anything it will get solved. People are just so amazing on local Facebook groups in rallying together and problem solving. Don’t sit in your room crying.

Ponoka7 · 06/03/2023 08:14

Get a water gun and spray the cat when it comes near enough to go in the house. I wouldn't object to my cat being sprayed. When I had house rabbits I used to buy hydrogen peroxide from Boots, you can mix it with bicarb and it worked to remove rabbit spray/urine.
