Shopping for skirting boards this morning and the bloke in the shop showed us this beading that you put on top of the floor and up to the skirting boards.

He said “have you thought about using these? They look stunning when done against skirting boards”

Stunning. As anyone ever been stunned by someone else’s skirting boards?

YABU - yes, I have on occasion gone into someone’s house and almost fainted at their amazing skirting boards

YANBU - no, it was a stupid thing to say and you’re right to still be annoyed about it hours later

Ok to be fair, they are verging on being stunning 😂

They are rather lovely @GrogusMama but imagine the dust! Especially on a dark surface!

DorritLittle · 04/03/2023 19:10

I’m with you OP. A skirting board is a skirting board and I am struggling to imagine one with beading or choosing to opt to have it.

WittynotPretty · 04/03/2023 19:12

S’cuse me @BourbonBon but my skirting boards are indeed ‘stunning 😂; 18 inches deep, beautifully moulded and original to the house.
PS That’s 45cm in new money, but they’re old so..

More dust traps to me I’m afraid.
And I do like a good skirting board…..sorry stunning skirting board.

I'm just going to say: Bet that's a pain to dust.

I had 'stunning' skirting boards in my last place and every metre had to be wiped four times to get in each crevice round the moulding. Never again.

7/10; marks deducted for the sockets and hoover scuffs.

Thank you for your rating of my 200 year old skirting boards. Someone asked to see my skirting boards, I posted a pic as requested. I didn’t ask anyone for a critique of them 🤣

They are lovely!

My Edwardian house has some bits of curved skirting too but they are far, far less impressive than yours (just a little northern terrace that would’ve been affordable worker’s housing for the then-new industrial estate, but it has some cool little original features in Arts & Crafts style).

I think people over exaggerate things all the time now, so words are losing meaning.
I find it annoying too.

I notice things like exciting new whatever, exquisite this or that.

But maybe I'm just not feeling what everyone else is feeling?

Anyway, skirting boards are sometimes lovely, beautiful maybe. But not stunning.

Cutting edge
classic term used by that guy on grand designs. The lighting designer guy. Can’t remember his name

Cutting edge when the technology he’s describing had been around for ages and ages.

Voida · 04/03/2023 20:45

I need skirting boards and I'm fuming at the prices of these things!

bakewellbride · 04/03/2023 21:09

I think you're reading a bit too much into it op. A salesperson is going to describe everything as stunning, amazing etc. He's hardly going say "yeah they're only skirting boards. This'll be ok / that looks alright."
